Let the education commence... god afternoon. I'm about to go make dinner. Crabmeat and shrimp stuffed mushroom caps, Baltimore style Yat Gaw Mein and fish fry... feeling adventurous.

David Shortell:

I never got far into Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima’s multivolume saga “Kozure Ōkami” AKA “Lone Wolf and Cub”, an obvious influence of “The Mandalorian”.
Did it also influence the 1980 film “Gloria”? I don’t know if John Cassavetes read manga.
Avatar 3:11pm
spodiodi:

i can hear it in Ricky Don't Lose That Number, now that you mention. cool.

@3:14 @David Shortell: Connecting that film with similar Japanese material is reasonable. When reading the Wikipedia entry for Cassavetes Gloria I see:
"The Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa cited Gloria as one of his favorite films."

A bit like Beatles stuff, the CSN DID suffer from overexposure, and I didn't listen to either for many years. But that long avoidance of exposure has mitigated much of that overexposure fatigue, and I can listen to that stuff again (though I still don't pull it out of the track).

Avatar 3:26pm
David Shortell:

Yes, “The Magnificent Seven” and “A Fistful of Dollars” are famous examples of westerns adapting chambara.
I also saw an American adaptation of “Rashomon” called “The Outrage”. Edward G. Robinson, Howard DaSilva and William Shatner played the storytellers and Paul Newman played the bandit.

Avatar 3:47pm
Vincent The Soul Chef:

It was a cinematic triumph, Erica... also, a very loose biopic of their career if you watched the entire run of the series. It's definitely a top five "stop and watch whenever it's on TV" movie.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:48pm

Vincent I read that it was a failure when it first came out as it alienated both the teen demographic of the series as well as the psychedelic hippie crowd the movie tried to be aimed at.
Avatar 🥁 3:51pm

Forget the site I read that from. All I know is that Jack Nicholson (pre-Shining) helped work on Head.
