When I was a child, I used to sing oldies to my parents, and they would laugh, and say, "We raised an old man."

Jokes on them... I came by my oldness honestly.

Mr. Fab and HyperDose! Put up your feet and relax.

This is great, Eartha's lounge act. Sounds like one guy on organ, and a conga player.

I used to put on my mom's coat, throw on a kerchief on my head and pretend I was an old Polish lady when I was about 6 years old.

Krys O.:

SOP, hello!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
Austin Rich:

There is so much Dick Cavett just free online, to watch and marvel at. I'm usually astonished by one of the conversations on each show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
Krys O.:

There were so many great talk shows. I watched Dinah Shore after school. Merv at night.
Avatar 8:12pm
Stillwell Coney Islander:

Hi Krys !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
Krys O.:

Anita, dear! How are ya?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Austin Rich:

I haven't even cracked the Dinah Shore / Merv cannon. I'm sure there's great stuff, but I'm already not watching Rockford Files. I need balance!
Avatar 8:13pm
Stillwell Coney Islander:

Great! I always look forward to your show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
Krys O.:

I've been watching Rockford Files chronologically. I'm up to season three.

Awesome! Thanks, Anita.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Austin Rich:

I feel like Rockford Files is one of those perfect shows. The pacing, the music, the stories. It's like the television ideal, in a way.
Avatar 8:15pm
Mr Fab:

now George Burns, that's someone from my childhood i don't remember not being old. He was making jokes like "it's great to be here. Tho at my age, it's great to be anywhere."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Franco Twinkie:

Dick Cavett was my favorite show as a disaffected teenager. I wanted to talk like him and have light hearted conversations with Janis Joplin, Gore Vidal and Eldridge Cleaver. THAT to me was what been a grown-up could be. It sure didn't work out that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Pauly from Clifton:

Merv Griffin was great. I saw Devo on one of his shows after they released New Traditionalists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Krys O.:

True, Mr. Fab. George gets a mention later.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Austin Rich:

Yeah, I'm with you, Mr. Fab. To me, he was always old. But he was usually still pretty good, no matter how old.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Austin Rich:

I'm loving how you're connecting these. Radio after my own heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
StringOFperils:

There's some TV show that George Burns and Gracie Allen had in the late 50s, where George is still kinda younger and very suave. Basically their radio show moved to TV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
chresti:

My ex worked on a George Burns at the Moulin Rouge special
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
Austin Rich:

I'm only familiar with the Burns & Allen radio show, but even then, he SOUNDS like old George Burns. It's pretty incredible; he was instantly recognizable for decades.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Austin Rich:

If I had more time, I have this dream of doing a public access version of a variety show. I tried doing a live version pre-covid, where we would have a comedian, music, and a host... a sometimes other acts, too. But it just didn't really take off. I did like 12 of them, and then we stopped.
Avatar 8:23pm
Mr Fab:

Yeah I've seen clips of the Burns and Allen show, SOp. It was strange not hearing age jokes! He once had a whole other thing going, w/Gracie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Krys O.:

I adore Gracie Allen. She was a sheer genius and George knew it.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Austin Rich:

Agreed. He knew what he had in her; her timing was priceless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
StringOFperils:

^^Agreed, Krys. Gracie was easily George's equal.
Avatar 8:25pm
Mr Fab:

12 sounds like a pretty good run, Austin! I like the idea of neo-vaudeville shows. Basically what burlesque shows are nowadays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
chresti:

Austin, maybe my ex would be interested in doing something like that
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Austin Rich:

A Gold Record from Caedmon! That's rad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Krys O.:

There was the George Burns reference via Carol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Franco Twinkie:

Austin, better that a gold record on Carlton Records.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Austin Rich:

Carol Channing is the best.
Avatar 8:29pm
Mr Fab:

Wow, bet Alan Rudolph was REAL happy about that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Franco Twinkie:

My Castle's Rocking brings to mind sex in a bouncy room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Krys O.:

Ah, but you couldn't fault 86 year old Alberta Hunter. She wrote some fine tunes for the movie.
Avatar 8:31pm
Mr Fab:

I wonder if I still have my VHS tape feat. Joe Franklin interviewing The Ramones. Or, as he called them, "the famous RAY-mones group."
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Austin Rich:

Oh, that would be solid gold, Mr. Fab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Krys O.:

I was an insomniac since childhood and would watch Joe Franklin on late night TV. Had the great honor of meeting him. Drew Friedman took this photo of myself with Joe.

I remembered correctly! Here's Dave the Spazz on Joe Franklin: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 8:35pm
Mr Fab:

can't wait to watch that, Krys!
Didn't Joe Franklin visit the WFMU Record Fair?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Krys O.:

Archie Bunker used to call out to Alice Faye in his dreams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
Krys O.:

That wouldn't surprise me, Mr. Fab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
