No idea how it got there. (Indeed I was in Moscow at one point in the mid-1990s ... but I don't think these were the same pants I was wearing on that trip).

Watching the steel foundries of Windsor pour molten steel on the night ferry back to Detroit is a pretty fixed memory! Still have bruises on my shoulders from this TANK of a canoe we rented in Squamish. That was an amazing trip. Memo to Americans: when the locals say "it gets a bit windy," they are not messing around. Most of Howe Sound was blown into my lap. Felt like it had melted maybe 20 minutes previously.

When it's extra cold, they tuck the shirts in.

In a magazine article years go, I read of someone getting away with a friend to wilds of Montana or Idaho for COLD river fishing, complete with insulated waders and other equip-o-riffic considerations. They found it really was very COLD water, as anticipated, requiring care and some clenching endurance. Cowboy rides up to river, gets off horse with his fishing rod, wades directly into freezing water in his jeans, up to his thighs, catches a fish or two and departs, leaving city slickers amazed and I think feeling like lesser, fussy-fragile men.

	1:54pm still b/p: Watching The Revenant, I kept thinking, "Damn, you just can't FUNCTION when hands get as cold as they gotta be getting there, or you experience coldwater immersion like that! I know he's a rugged frontier dude, but how come he just keeps super-functioning?" Leo really did perform much of the real and real cold stuff. Even with safety protocols and immediate helpers/spotters and warming methods at hand, that's asking and doing, uncomfortably, a LOT.

Watching the steel foundries of Windsor pour molten steel on the night ferry back to Detroit is a pretty fixed memory! Still have bruises on my shoulders from this TANK of a canoe we rented in Squamish. That was an amazing trip. Memo to Americans: when the locals say "it gets a bit windy," they are not messing around. Most of Howe Sound was blown into my lap. Felt like it had melted maybe 20 minutes previously.

In a magazine article years go, I read of someone getting away with a friend to wilds of Montana or Idaho for COLD river fishing, complete with insulated waders and other equip-o-riffic considerations. They found it really was very COLD water, as anticipated, requiring care and some clenching endurance. Cowboy rides up to river, gets off horse with his fishing rod, wades directly into freezing water in his jeans, up to his thighs, catches a fish or two and departs, leaving city slickers amazed and I think feeling like lesser, fussy-fragile men.

I know he's a rugged frontier dude, but how come he just keeps super-functioning?" Leo really did perform much of the real and real cold stuff. Even with safety protocols and immediate helpers/spotters and warming methods at hand, that's asking and doing, uncomfortably, a LOT.
