I have no idea why, but my parents had an HBO recording of Airplane, and we watched it a lot growing up. I love that movie.

That Tangerine Dream was the theme song for the very popular hardcore/punk show on WFMU hosted by Pat Duncan.

I loved Raising Arizona. But I tend to like most of their movies.

Randall J. Cobb was the best part of Raising Arizona IMO.

I think we're safe, Aitch. So far.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Austin Rich:

Oh, I see. They hadn't launched yet, so they were just playing this stuff until then. I remember a station around here doing that at one point. Can't remember when...

But this is a lot more elaborate.

I predict we'll be hearing "Fletch" at some point.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Austin Rich:

Ha! The 80's Dragnet! It's terrible, but I saw it a bunch as a kid, for some reason. Probably because I liked Dan Ackroyd then.
Avatar 👻 8:18pm
MarkTime:

I'm trying to remember if any "Fletch" pops up, but there are so many movies maybe. Meanwhile Crocodile Dundee
Avatar 👻 8:19pm

I'm a sucker for Indiana Jones, but the first movie I saw with my parents was Raiders of The Lost Ark at a drive in, and that was pretty great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Krys O.:

I started loathing a lot of Hollywood movies around 1984. Best Defense was the tipping point. I swore off new movies for a while after that one. And movies were a huge part of my life since I was a tiny tot.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Austin Rich:

Does "Cheers" count as a movie?
Avatar 👻 8:31pm
MarkTime:

Weird how the Norm bit snuck in
Avatar 👻 8:31pm
Mr Fab:

And Cheech and Chong, from the '70s? Maybe they're running out of '80s movies.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Austin Rich:

At one point, I probably knew all of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. Even the music cues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Krys O.:

Big Adventure was sublime.
Avatar 👻 8:34pm
Mr Fab:

This really is a helluva lot of work, for what is basically filler until the new format starts.
Unless they dropped these clips in during the regular programing?
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Austin Rich:

Big Adventure holds up astonishingly well, for a movie that my parents swore was a dumb kids movie. I was sure as I got older, I would see the flaws. But there are none. It just works, every moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
Krys O.:

Tarantella?
Avatar 👻 8:39pm
MarkTime:

Big Adventure is one of my wife's favorite movies, but I only saw it 2-3 years ago. The Cabazon dinosaurs still exist, but the adjacent restaurant is gone
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:40pm
Austin Rich:

I've been meaning to visit those Dinosaurs. I only learned how to drive a few years ago; 2020 was gonna be the year I went on a big tour... and hit some tourist destinations. But something happened in March of that year... sort of scuttled those plans.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
Austin Rich:

Minority Opinion: I prefer the first Star Wars movie over almost all the others. I haven't minded some of the others, but that first one pretty solid.
Avatar 👻 8:42pm
MarkTime:

Even when they tried making the first Star Wars movie the fourth one instead
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
Austin Rich:

Yeah. My VHS tape from when I was a kid says, "Star Wars," and that seems to work pretty well for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
Krys O.:

There's that Tangerine Dream Stratosphear again.
Avatar 👻 8:43pm
Mr Fab:

again...Star Wars isn't from the '80s?!?
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
Austin Rich:

I mean, Stratosphear is a solid album. I'm partial to it.

SPINAL TAP. That's a perfect movie, for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
Kat in Chicago:

All work and no play means I forgot the Wiggle Room was on. Rats.
Avatar 👻 8:43pm
MarkTime:

Nor is Animal House
Avatar 👻 8:44pm
Mr Fab:

MORE SPINAL TAP CLIPS, PLEEZE!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Krys O.:

Right, Animal House was 78.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
Austin Rich:

I hate to admit this, but Spinal Tap used to be a "barometer" movie for potential partners when I was a very young man. If they didn't like Spinal Tap, that was a sign that things might not work.

It probably wasn't a bad scale to use, but still I feel bad.
Avatar 👻 8:46pm
MarkTime:

Spinal Tap is 11 on a scale of 1 to 10 :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
Kat in Chicago:

I think that's a pretty good barometer, Austin
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Austin Rich:

I mean, I'm married to a solid person, so I guess everything worked out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Kat in Chicago:

I recently discovered that there was a sequel to Spinal Tap. Did y'all know that, and can I safely assume that it sucks?
Avatar 👻 8:48pm
Mr Fab:

I love Spinal Tap, but it's pretty inside baseball if you don't have much knowledge of the music biz.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
Austin Rich:

The sequel has a few moments. But it's not great.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
Austin Rich:

But they stay in character the whole time!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:49pm

As the family computer nerd, who had a TRS-80 as a kid, WarGames was essential viewing.
Avatar 👻 8:51pm
MarkTime:

Anybody for an hour of Jean Shepherd soon?
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
Austin Rich:

I've gone back and forth with A Christmas Story over the years. I used to hate it. Then I started to like it. Then it was on too much. Then like a repeated joke it got funny again. I'm not sure where it is now, but it's been long enough that maybe I wouldn't mind finding out again? Hard to say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Krys O.:

Ooh, yes to some Jean Shepherd. Saw him live on stage back in the 80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Kat in Chicago:

DuSable Lake Shore Drive, now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
Krys O.:

Short Circuit and Electric Dreams were fun too.
Avatar 👻 8:53pm
MarkTime:

Anybody outside Chicago know this song before Guardians of the Galaxy II?
Avatar 👻 8:54pm
Mr Fab:

I thought it was a jingle os some sort, til i realized it was going on too long. it's an actual song, apparently?
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Austin Rich:

Since Short Circuit was filmed in Oregon, there's a lot of local references, and that should she lives in is in Astoria, though not as easy to find as the Goonies house, if I remember correctly.

But Short Circuit has Kettle chips and old people talking about hiding their weed, so it's 100% an Oregon movie.
Avatar 👻 8:54pm
MarkTime:

Though it came out in the early to mid 1970s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
Kat in Chicago:

Yep, one hit wonder by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah (I think?) and yes it's not 80s
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
