I'm prepared to throw up on my computer screen and I think I have a fever. I tried to do right, to always wash my hands but somehow The Germs got through.

Ha, wow you're right, chresti. I'm singing along.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Rich in Washington:

I used to think these comps were SST releases, prolly cuz of the Pettibone covers, but they're so much more.

A master class in spin right here well before that term ever existed
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Rich in Washington:

Caught In My Eye. I would listen to that over and over as a teen. It was on that Slash comp
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Mr Fab:

Weasel Walter: Probably "Lexicon Devil," or maybe "No God," but "My tunnel" is a great one. For years it was unreleased - I only had a copy taped off Rodney.
  6:44pm WEASEL WALTER:

"no god" is really amazing. chilling
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm ultradamno:

We Must Bleed or Not All Right
  6:45pm WEASEL WALTER:

white flag did a great version of "not alright" . . .
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Rich in Washington:

That live ROIR cassette, Germicide. I remember mail ordering it without knowing what the Germs actually sounded like. But it was that aforementioned track on that Slash comp that did it for me.
  6:48pm WEASEL WALTER:

i always wanted to cover the whole "germicide" album in the style of the slash LP. ha ha ha. that's one of those bucket list projects i've been mulling on for decades
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Rich in Washington:

I'm of the Zip-A-Tone, Letraset generation. 'Camera ready'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm prof.fuzz:

"forming" from germicide. so raw and simple. my first band covered this song ca. 1981.
Avatar 6:50pm Debbie Davenport:

Yes to the off centering. When I first saw that album jacket design I was impressed with that.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:51pm ultradamno:

@Weasel I think I heard them doing that on that Flipside Video Fanzine before I heard The Germs version
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Rich in Washington:

You could've had Paul Revere produce and play keyboards all over it a la Ray Manzanarek/X!
  6:53pm WEASEL WALTER:

@ultradamno ha ha ha. white flag ruled. what a great wormhole to dive down. this full set is amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh2ut_P-Zp4

I can barely handle all this greatness. Thank you Mr. Fab for facilitating <3

Avatar 6:58pm HyperDose:

@Mr. Fab also apologies for missing your last show. Don't know how it got past me!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Rich in Washington:

Happy rehearsing, Weasel!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Mr Fab:

ha, no prob HD. I'll be doing an even sillier fill-in later this month.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Rich in Washington:

My copy of GI is among the many records which disappeared at house parties when I was a reckless youth. Mind you, I'm grateful no one would grab the weirder, more esoteric punk and noise records, but still...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:04pm ultradamno:

As iconic as that cover is, The Germs spelled out in meat and jelly beans is intriguing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm JR HTX:

@ Rich in Washington that's exactly what happened to mine....with a few others like my L.A.M.F. this was early 80s
Avatar 7:06pm HyperDose:

Are we pitching in to get Rich an original pressing off Discogs?

Avatar 7:08pm Debbie Davenport:

🖤Hi Milkies!
  7:09pm Milkies:

Hey Hey Debbbie!!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Mr Fab:

HyperDose - now you know what we're doing with our fundraiser money!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:10pm ultradamno:

There were a few other records where the band's name took up the whole cover around that time (X, Adolescents, Fear) probably a good idea to resist it.
  7:12pm sufferwords:

First reaction to hearing the Germs l.p.- you mean they’ve been playing actual songs at the shows?- top ten most historical wax releases ever for Los Angeles- watch out if you’re in public near me and a song off this wax comes on- I will fuck shit up
  7:16pm Milkies:

Luv U Don!!!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Mr Fab:

I had my share of treasures that disappeared after being "loaned" to friends. Everything from Roger Corman's memoirs to Kate Bush's "The Dreaming" to (and this one hurt) my Screamers live VHS tape. Of course it's all out there in internet-land now. So keep 'em, bloody thieves!
Avatar 7:20pm Debbie Davenport:

79-81 I was told two rules about punk. Cautions for when I finally went to out of town.
1.Cut your hair or the city girls will beat you up.
2. If someone comes up to you and says "Germs or Ramones?!" Always answer Germs or they will beat you up.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:22pm WR:

You received good advice Debbie
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Mr Fab:

re the vetoed meat and jellybeans lp cover idea, Bob Biggs DID build the giant wooden "X", went out in the desert, lit it on fire, and took the classic cover pic for "Los Angeles."
  7:23pm Milkies:

@Debbie I answered Germones
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Rich in Washington:

The pattern continued into the CD age, as my sons and their friends were all huge punk fans, so my most stolen or scratched up CDs were the usual Sex Pistols. Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, etc.
But they never touched the weirder, rarer stuff.
  7:24pm Milkies:

This Richie Dagger version kinda rules
Avatar 7:24pm Debbie Davenport:

Was it a real thing Milkies? The main boys who would say that to me were from Huntington Beach.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:24pm ultradamno:

Well, there are more surviving Germs at this point, so they have that over Ramones for sure.
  7:25pm Milkies:

@Debbie, I was never asked, yet is good advice
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Rich in Washington:

OMG- the Cruising soundtrack has The Cripples on it!
Avatar 7:26pm Debbie Davenport:

Well you had the perfect answer had you been asked.
  7:26pm Milkies:

🎶 let’s pretend you’re cool 🎶
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:27pm ultradamno:

Were there people out canvassing on the question?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:28pm WR:

ultradamo, before the internet people had to troll, bullie and retweet in person.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Mr Fab:

Not familiar with the Cripples. What were they like? Anything like our own Mike Rogers' old band The Rotters and their song, "I Dont Wanna Be An Amputee?"
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm ultradamno:

I'm just imagining a clipboard with Germs Or Ramones, Clash Or Dils, X or X-Ray Spex, etc on it.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm ultradamno:

In relation to Gira's Li'l Cripples?
  7:31pm Milkies:

There’s some good advice
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Rich in Washington:

I was just looking them up. Not the Cripples I was thinking of. There was this band with a guy in a wheelchair who sang these incredibly cheesy love songs. Dang.
  7:33pm Milkies:

Right here right now!!
Avatar 7:33pm Debbie Davenport:

Ultradamno, I lived in a town population 200 at the time. I think punk was such a wild far away thing that some of us used to read the Weekly World News and wonder about stuff. Some people felt cool being able to tell others what it was like in big cities at the time. I assumed it was true at the time because one of the boys had a big brother that knew Darby. I felt like it was an inside scoop kind of thing.
but no one ever asked me in san fransisco or los angeles. Maybe it phased out like the commas followed by okay and with a questionmark and exclamation mark at the end. Like" Germs rule, okay?! (waves fist).
I was dorky. hard to say.
Avatar 7:34pm Debbie Davenport:

the chatroom is working really good for me today. WFMU rules!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:34pm ultradamno:

I think Michael Gira's band was Little Cripples...I just like Li'l better
