Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Rich in Washington:

I was just chatting with someone about our mutual teenage fear that Reagan would start WW3 to bring on biblical Armageddon.
Avatar 4:08pm Paper Kosmonaut:

The single women in the world will be contacted by Bill Gates via his injected microchip. (-;
Avatar 4:08pm flannery:

ww3 seems so old fashioned now :'-)
  4:09pm Eric Kilkenny:

pretty cool playlist
Avatar 4:09pm Mr Fab:

The Cold War produced lots of cool music. (See, there's good in everything!) We could probably do a weekly show.
Avatar 4:09pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Just a couple of weeks back there also was a bomb-themed discussion here, I think on HWM.
  4:10pm een_usa:

Unfortunately they just made the bombs smaller and more frequent :-(

And I misspoke it’s British
  4:13pm een_usa:

Already messing up my big day lmfao 😖
Avatar 4:14pm Mr Fab:

"Atomic Platters" is a great, big boxed set of post-war nuke fear songs (well repped in the Sheena stream), but this reminds me that there very well could be a box of Reagan-ear Cold War-revival songs as well. Gotta include Sun Ra's "Nuclear War"!
  4:14pm Andres:

Them Commonwealths is all the same they is. ;)
  4:15pm een_usa:

Good call, it’s comin up!! I anticipated a bunch of recommendations from this hour, we’ll have to do a vol 2
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Rich in Washington:

I recently got the radio show which scared the crap out of me as a teen: Second Coming: Ronald Reagan and the Prophecy of Armageddon. It was on WBAI in the early 80s but played on lots of public radio stations.
Avatar 4:16pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Raymond Briggs' "When The Wind Blows" is a great comic book about the bomb.
Avatar 4:17pm flannery:

Oh wow to both... how did you find the WBAI show?
Avatar 4:17pm Ursula1000:

LOVE Anne Clark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Rich in Washington:

I remember finding Hiroshima survivor Keiji Nakazawa's comic I Saw It and initially bought it because of its dark vibe and found the look of classic Japanese cartoon characters in such explicit gore 'funny' and then bought it, read it and cried my eyes out. Harrowing.
Avatar 4:19pm flannery:

wow would love to read, that sounds intense
  4:19pm een_usa:

There’s an anime that I saw early on let me see if I can find it after we announce the tracks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Rich in Washington:

Oh, the WBAI show. I had to buy it. Like contacted Pacifica, had to pay them to digitize it and send me CDs. And it took like a year.
  4:20pm een_usa:

Oh yeah it’s called “Barefoot Gen”!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Rich in Washington:

The Nakazawa manga was also called Barefoot Gen in Japan. Manga wasn't a thing in the US for a while. I think it was 1981 that I bought it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Rich in Washington:

I believe there's anime for it. I seem to recall renting it once in the 90s.

Avatar 4:29pm flannery:

  4:30pm een_usa:

Do they owe us an emoji?
Avatar 4:30pm Mr Fab:

Avatar 4:31pm Mr Fab:

I wish more musicians would recognize the great artist rewards of piling on sound effects.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Rich in Washington:

Penis Envy is the only Crass album I don't have. I have Penis Envy envy.
  4:33pm een_usa:

Hell yes to sound effects, also Rich the crass label does reissues that are awesome and usually like $15! And in the crass style where the cover is a big fold out poster
  4:33pm Andres:

Testament (1983). Only saw it once on PBS in the 80’s but has stayed with me. No gore. Quiet and touching film.
Avatar 4:34pm flannery:

i think i'm the only one here from kansas city but anyone a fan of the TV movie THE DAY AFTER?
Avatar 4:35pm Ursula1000:

Crass' offshoot Flux Of Pink Indians' Uncarved Block though....ooh sooo good
Avatar 4:35pm Mr Fab:

Oh yeah, I saw "Testament" - I think they made us watch it for school.
Avatar 4:36pm flannery:

right on love flux of pink indians
Avatar 4:36pm Adam Bomb:

Rich, I found some images of "I Saw It" and whoa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Rich in Washington:

I watched Testament again recently. It really holds up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Rich in Washington:

I love this track!
Avatar 4:37pm Constance De Witt:

Shaved women collaborators! That was so random. Yeah I have this old ass super used-up copied tape of Flux of Pink Indians somewhere, used to listen to it on my suburban bus ride in my teens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Rich in Washington:

@flannery: That's what set off my discussion about Reaganoia this morning - they posted something about The Day After.
  4:37pm een_usa:

The way they were meant to be heard :,-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Rich in Washington:

The British film Threads is particularly harrowing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Rich in Washington:

Someone also brought up The Bedsitting Room recently.
  4:40pm Andres:

The Day After. That made for some good conversations in grade eight the next day. Was a good way to find out who had their head in the sand.
  4:40pm een_usa:

Damn hell yeah so many good recommendations! The Day after is wild because it’s set in Lawrence which is abt 45 mins away from here, and features a young John lithgow
Avatar 4:40pm flannery:

  4:40pm een_usa:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 4:42pm flannery:

Avatar 4:43pm flannery:

Avatar 4:45pm Mr Fab:

  4:46pm een_usa:

Lol I had a moment where I was googling “can-mushroom” which yielded another kind of bomb anxiety of prepping my basement lmfao
  4:47pm Andres:

Prep that basement with some cans of Cream of Mushroom soup.
Avatar 4:49pm Mr Fab:

Whatchoo gonna do/without yo ass?!
Avatar 4:50pm flannery:

  4:50pm een_usa:

Avatar 4:53pm Mr Fab:

  4:53pm Andres:

Sun Ra summing this all up nicely.
Avatar 4:55pm flannery:

hmmm i have never thought about my ass as the thing that keeps my legs on
Avatar 4:55pm flannery:

Avatar 4:55pm Adam Bomb:

Goodbye, to my ass
Avatar 4:56pm Mr Fab:

Let's hope we never have to find out!
  4:56pm een_usa:

I know it’s a faux pas, but I had to play two Anne Clark songs
Avatar 4:57pm Ursula1000:
