A live, improvised sound collage experiment, going back 27 years, weaving mesmerizing new soundscapes from found and collected materials right in the present moment.
Pop music, speeches, live phone calls and spontaneous monologues become ambient loopy layered threads riding the liminal spaces between waking and dreaming. (Visit homepage.)

A spoonful of sugar makes the Alan Watts go down.
Avatar 3:02pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

This first 17 minutes may be familiar. The rest will be entirely unfamiliar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Webhamster Henry:

It's always familiar, I'm posting from 2024 today.

Henry, thank you for your optimism about our rate of future memory decay

There's a Cage quote in front of a theater where I used to go that goes "I am trying to be unfamiliar with what I'm doing"

Hey there Ken and Extravaganders. Enjoying the end-of-world vibes here this evening (both photo and sounds).
Avatar 3:28pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

jimbrux It's all over
Avatar 3:29pm jimbrux:

it always is
Avatar 3:30pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Welcome, all, and everyone else
Avatar 3:33pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

This is probably an early demo of "there are no mistakes." I do remember what it felt like to be there that day, during the show, and I even remember choosing these bathroom sounds. But I don't quite remember how this odd noise came about.
Avatar 3:36pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

In fact I remember the bathroom visit we're hearing. Odd that I remember more and more about this moment as I listen. Many shows I simply don't remember what it was like to make. Perhaps because this was a non-repeating location.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Rich in Washington:

Uh.
Avatar 3:42pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Ah, I see the connection to the show from 9 months later (on stage at Siberia, NYC), nothing but these answering machine tapes
Avatar 3:43pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Rich, uh, whatever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Rich in Washington:

um
Avatar 3:46pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I wonder why I wasn't using Winamp yet, even though I'd been using it at home for 3 years by this time
Avatar 3:47pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Scratch that, this is probably Winamp. But I couldn't play more than one sound at once with it, due to sound driver limitations of Windows 95. Two laptops doubled things, plus I was running...I wish I remembered what...some sort of delay/processing software on one of them. I wonder if it was AudioMulch, but I don't think so.
Avatar 3:49pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I borrowed one of the laptops, and borrowed this gigantic mixing board, which someone generously also brought to me for a few other shows. Buying a little board would've been easier, but deliberate sharing culture and the resultant politics and aesthetics have always appealed to me.
Avatar 3:52pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Mixing board from Corey, Secret Agent Gel, who himself carried it down from upstate NY where my radio show life had begun
Avatar 3:53pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Huh, it's this guy secretagentgel.com...
Avatar 3:53pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Presumably he was among the entourage on stage right now, but I don't remember. There were a lot of people crammed up there.

A different kind of time warping today, as memories emerge
Avatar 3:58pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I wish for others to read from their calendars from the show dates. Jan. 27, 2004, where were you?
Avatar 3:59pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Whooops, I did have a more creative name for the Knitting Factory sets...
Avatar Ken's Last Ever Radio Extravaganza supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 4:01pm fred:

Probably nowhere interesting. But three days later I went to Instants Chavirés for the first time, a life-changing event (Charlemagne Palestine was playing)
Avatar 4:02pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Ahh
Avatar 4:06pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I went to a SXSW volunteer call, was horrified, and subsequently always left down while that was happening. I miss the scrappy and really-volunteer CinemaTexas
  4:11pm Corey (Secret Agent Gel):

Ah, the memories! :-)
Avatar 4:15pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Welcome back, Corey!
