Avatar 9:21am PAULS:

I'm so ashamed right now... and a little stoned!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am KimSorise:

Actually yes - DocJazz. they are currently speaking to the glitch that occurs between the Default-Network in the brain (for neurotypical folx - it allows us to think of nothing but easily snap out of it and complete a task. For ADHD brains they cannot do this with ease.

So when the brain needs to focus and move into a task positive mindset, the ADHD brain remains stuck in Default. This is hugely important for us to remember how much time and extra prompting the ADHD brain needs - so that all kiddo are on the same page at the start of a lesson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
This program is unbudgeable!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Doug Schulkind:

Dr. Sorise BRINGS THE SCIENCE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am KimSorise:

Essential the Default Mode does not synch or quiet itself during tasks -so this can lead to greater distractibility and even negative self talk, ruminations etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Doug Schulkind:

Someone in the comments a few weeks back made mention of the honk-horn taxis of Accra, Ghana. So I thought I would take them for a ride.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am doctorjazz:

Gladys Bentley performing here with the genius stringbender Eddie Lang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am KimSorise:

@docjazz - I am conducting a survey with our middle and high school kids and teachers - they are averaging 6 to 9 hours per day on a screen. This creates tremendous brain havoc especially for some with ADHD. The inattentive ADHD kiddos have a harder time with online or simulcast learning than the those with the Hyperactive component.

Also many of our kiddos are super bummed about having to use lockers again next year. Having all books and supplies in one spot has almost eliminated lost / forgotten work - and organization is better because most teacher are having kids maintain their spaces daily. Covid has certainly given us lots to think about concerning work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Doug Schulkind:

Good afternoon from here, Doug and Chris.
Hi Brian - we had a listener hailing from Northwood earlier today!
Avatar 10:19am northguineahills:

@βrian: Renaming a team when it relocates, happens maybe 1/3 of the time. More likely in the recent future...
Avatar 10:19am Chris Albertyn:

Helloo Stanley greetings to you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Brian in UK:

Hey Stanley. Northwood or Northwood Hills?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Stanley:

Hi Chris. Graet to hear you again. It's a highlight of my week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Doug Schulkind:

G'day, Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Stanley:

He didn't say, Brian. But hey, close enough for me.
Avatar 10:21am Chris Albertyn:

@Stanley, Doug is the weekly regular ... I've just been a monthly imposter (a happy one)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Brian in UK:

Played blind how many would guess it is Miriam.
Avatar 10:22am Chris Albertyn:

@Brian, I agree, soulful like Letta
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Doug Schulkind:

I had to look it up. This is a Caiphus Semenya song. What a genius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Doug Schulkind:

Chris, please take two hours. I don't want this to end.
Avatar 10:24am Stork:

If it's Friday, it must be Dug-zee!!

Good evening in Münster, Stork! Good morning in Brooklyn, Homey Horseradish!

Next Sunday 4/4 is Hugh Masekela's birthday.
Avatar 10:28am Stork:

This is great stuff, Chris!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Stanley:

Yes, Chris. I meant month.
I have been a huge fan of the music from South Africa since I bought the Indestructable Beat of Soweto albums back in the eighties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Doug Schulkind:

@Stork
Oh yeah? Watchoo gonna do about it?

Avatar 10:33am Chris Albertyn:

I will quietly go and sit in the corner northguinea, my memory is shocking :-)
Avatar 10:34am northguineahills:

No worries, as Doug can testify, I'm into all genres, and I have many rekkids you've already played (especially Maskela).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Stanley:

I am a sucker for songs that namecheck a list of cities, or in the case of that last number, countries. Such a sweet, goofy thing to do in a song.
Avatar 10:42am northguineahills:

I imagine there are still tensions in SA w/ Zimbabweian immigrants.....
Avatar 10:43am northguineahills:

@Doug: That's exactly what Italy is doing on it's off shore small islands. The Canaries are far enough off the coast that no one will notice (except the residents). Ironic, as the Canaries were discovered by a Mauritanian king's expedition in Roman time.

I have a need to repeat Brian in UK's comment from 10:46. It reads like the beginning to a novel:

The white Magnolia is just about to come into full bloom."

Steve Inskeep, interviewing National Security Council senior director for the Western Hemisphere, Juan Gonzalez this morning on NPR asked Gonzalez--in an incredulous tone--after Gonzalez said that the US was going to have to positively influence and change practices in the migrants home countries, just how in the world was the US going to be able to do that??.........(How ignorantl and clueless does Inskeep have to be to not realize the US's presence and destructive behavior in Central America these past 150 years??!!)

On a technical note, change your wheelbarrow wheel from an inner tube to a foam filled one. It will never puncture.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Brian in UK:

@LG those words are as true now as the day they were written.
Avatar 11:10am northguineahills:

@Brian in UK: I was supposed to have a third interview w/ the Broward's County Sheriff's Dept (Ft Lauderdale) this week, but I was told there was an medical emergency w/ the IT director, so nothing (and, I don't want to work for the man, if possible.)
Avatar 11:10am Listener Gregory:

@ngh, I was in Gainesville once, ca. 1981, and went to a place called Skeeters, Home of the Big Biscuit, where they had a live country band during weekend breakfast. It has since closed, and I have no desire to return to Gainesville.

Mary Lou Williams, born in Atlanta, but raised and buried in Pittsburgh.
Avatar 11:13am northguineahills:

Avatar 11:15am Listener Gregory:

@ngh, so long as you don't daily experience the absence of Skeeters as a hole in your soul, I bet it is a nice place.

Solid book on the Gainesville music scene: upf.com...

In my book, the fact that Gainesville gave us The Vulgar Boatmen is alone good enough.
Avatar 11:20am northguineahills:

@Gregory: The first time I went to Gainesville was 1993 when I was in HS. I did undergrad there and worked for a startup after I left NYC (2017-2019) until it went under. You step outside Gainesvill city limits, and it's becomes the Deep South (at least the nature is nice).
Avatar 11:22am northguineahills:

Sinner: I have multiple books on Gainesville musical history, (punk, indie rock, blues), but I haven't seen that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Doug Schulkind:

Drummer Elvin Jones with his trumpeter brother Thad, tenor player Hank Mobley and, at the piano, the Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand)!
Avatar 11:23am Listener Gregory:

Is there someone playing besides the drummer? My God.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
Are you saying producer Arif Mardin decided to put the drums in "up front" in the mix?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am sinner:

ngh: do you have the one on Florida garage rock? It's excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am I^k^e:

@Doug@10:57, thanks, you too! Buried under heaps of work here, in case I sound muffled. Back into the salt mines....
Avatar 11:27am northguineahills:

@sinner: I'd have to check my books, which are in storage, 150 miles away....
Avatar 11:28am Listener Gregory:

When Jones was playing, all those other musicians faded into the background. They were probably very good, but my attention was riveted elsewhere.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am HyperDose:

@Doug You'll have to ask Jim Morrison about that. I ain't no back door man! I do play a mean washboard though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Mike East:

I gotta go pull some marshall cabs off a high shelf, but I can't pull myself away from my computer speakers.....I think its time I worked out a good music playback system for myself in the warehouse. Great show as alway Doug!
