Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from December 11, 2020 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Are you ready for the FIFTH ANNUAL Hinky Dinky Time All Listener Request Program?

On January 1st, 2021, from Noon until 3:00 PM EST,on the first Friday of the year, we’ll be creating something special, together.

There are two ways to deliver your request for the show. The first way is to use the WFMU email form at: tinyurl.com... The second way is to leave voice mail at (201) 204-9350. If you leave voice mail, you do so with the understanding that the audio of your request may be heard during the show.

You may submit multiple requests. A sophisticated algorithm will select from among them.

Some immunizations are more likely to give reactions than others, Shingrex is in the more reactions group (I got it, though, and was fine). The "glass half full" way to look at it is that it is a sign your immune system is processing it, and you should be well protected (that's what it's supposed to do, generate an immune response to protect you later).

UM: Some. This area is very agricultural, being along the CT River. Dairy farms yes, but also various crops. A few miles south of where I am is Hatfield & Whately, big growers of tobacco that’s commonly used for wrapping cigars. It dries in special barns with pivoting slats. You can still see it in action in late-summer.

Lovers of paper (and of books) should read Allan Stevenson's Problem of the Missale Speciale. By examining the shifting watermarks in the paper used to publish the (possibly pre-Gutenberg Bible) Missale, Stevenson is able establish sources of the paper and rough timelines of work in the printer's atelier. I read it in one sitting in the late '80s in the library at UCLA's (then) Library School. Totally fascinating.
