↳ Song: "Commercial" by "Spanky and Our Gang"
Sounds like Alice's Restaurant.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Funky16Corners:

↳ Erica @3:47
That and Byrd Ave were both written by a guy nmed Mike Smith, who wrote a lot of idiosyncratic/unusual stuff for folk artists
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
Jeff Ash:

This show is a flashback for me to the TV variety shows of the late '60s. Spanky and Our Gang was a TV-friendly act, something for the kids that the older folks also would like.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
Funky16Corners:

↳ Jeff Ash @3:51
I've seen clips of them on Ed Sullivan, Smothers Brothers, Hollywood Palace etc
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Funky16Corners:

They were also - with the exception of Spanky - a pretty square-looking bunch, like a bunch of refugee college English professors
Avatar 3:55pm
Vincent The Soul Chef:

↳ Funky16Corners @3:53
Ha! That's pretty accurate, now that I think about it... real talk, those vocal arrangements are devastating.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:55pm

There you go, Larry. Exactly.

Among the tightest harmonies of the time
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:57pm
Funky16Corners:

Maybe 20 years back I got to see Bob Dorough a bunch of times in different settings. One time he had a bunch of CDs for sale, which I had never seen anywhere else, so I bought them. One of them had his demo versions of many of the songs covered by S&OG
Avatar 4:02pm
Vincent The Soul Chef:

Man, who takes the time to create a six part harmony though... just lovely. Thank you for this, Larry :)

↳ Song: "Like To Get To Know You" by "Spanky and Our Gang"
I must say, the first time I heard this song sometime in 1991, I was literally reduced to a puddle on the floor.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:11pm

↳ Vincent The Soul Chef @4:10
It's a beautiful arrangement
