Avatar 3:00pm βrian:

That clearance is as low as the Can Opener bridge, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Stanley:

That was a very short intro. Had hardly any time to find my seat and get comfortable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm David Dichelle:

Hey ßrian and Stanley - I suppose that was the express train theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi David and fellow travellers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm David Dichelle:

Greetings, Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Phillippe Bastille:

Howdy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm David Dichelle:

Hey there PB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Webhamster Henry:

120°C ... it's a steampipe?
Avatar 3:15pm βrian:

How much will it set you back when you drive your rental truck into a steam pipe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm David Dichelle:

Henry, yes it's good old-fashioned district heating, I think is the term.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Stanley:

I'm presuming these pipes are a hangover from communist times. You may have only been earning a pittance but your heating was given for free.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Phillippe Bastille:

Does the sun ever shine there? Seems to me I've seen a lot of overcast skies in your pics
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm David Dichelle:

There was a bit of sun today, but not at that particular moment, but it has been mostly one long overcast autumn - since November.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm David Dichelle:

And yes, I've heard people often just opened up their windows here to cool off from the free heat during the GDR days.
Avatar 3:21pm βrian:

I happened to have been looking at a blog with lots of images of Soviet-era brutalist buildings. These enjoy the context of overcast skies.
Avatar 3:21pm Sem:

Hello, David, and all aboard.

After hearing War Pigs w/ Tony Coulter, I see Cremo Coyle is spinning "Walpurgis" by Black Sabbath. Bang a gong, bang your head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm doctorjazz:

Hi Riders!

Avatar 3:53pm βrian:

Ah, I knew this was the Bottine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm David Dichelle:

Hard to resist the fiddle and tap!
Avatar 3:58pm βrian:

1987 is roughly when I saw them, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Carmichael:

Heya David and steam pipe punks.
Avatar 4:05pm βrian:

Mais non ! Ceci n'est pas une pipe !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm David Dichelle:

Hey there Carmichael - just letting off a little steam.
Avatar 4:07pm βrian:

Are the pipes hot enough to warm dinner on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm David Dichelle:

Good question, depends on your choice of meals, I suppose.
  4:09pm melinda:

Hello fellow riders
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Stanley:

Collected a few Abdel Aziz El Mubarak discs in my time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm David Dichelle:

Hello Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm David Dichelle:

Stanley, did you find them on your Africa travels?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm dutchtheo:

Wore this album out in the late 1980's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Stanley:

Yes David, I spent six months in Sudan in 82/83 but the music I brought back was on very rough cassette copies. Bought the CDs over the years since then. Mohammed Wardi was my favourite, or 'Flowery' Mohammed, as we used to call him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Michael 98145:

120 C pipes would help warm anything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Carmichael:

Have never heard of this artist. Wonderful music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm David Dichelle:

Sounds like a very interesting year, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Stanley:

Ah, my misspent youth, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Stanley:

Whenever artists like Abdel Aziz El Mubarak came to London, tickets woud sll out in a day. I was never quick enough.
  4:27pm John from Florham park:

Hello fellow subway listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm redkayak:

Good evening all - a bit late I'm afraid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm David Dichelle:

Ahoy there John and Redkayak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm David Dichelle:

@Redkayak sorry for the misspelling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm David Dichelle:

Glad you enjoy them John!
  4:40pm John from Florham park:

I do David plus no trolls here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm David Dichelle:

Have there been problems lately in that regard?
Avatar 4:57pm Brian in UK:

Hello David and disco divas, oh sorry wrong show.

Getting worried %raised has gone from 5% to 4%, is this deflation?
Avatar 4:57pm βrian:

Ach, I should have dinner in the oven, and here I am still at work.
  4:58pm John from Florham park:

In the mother list hit and run trolls but as many as there used to be, I ignore them
  4:58pm John from Florham park:

I mean not as many
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm ParUbi:

Dinner in the oven is far too hot and cramped. Much better at work!
Avatar 5:00pm Brian in UK:

@βrian we have dinner at table, sorry too much Police Squad.
Avatar 5:00pm Sem:

Taking a break from the Ark-building rain, BiUK?

@Parubi howdy
  5:01pm norman douglas:

down quantity street is the name of a chapter in the revolution off everyday life by raoul vaneigem if I'm not mistaken
Avatar 5:01pm Brian in UK:

What's a cubit?

Whatsup JfFp
Avatar 5:02pm βrian:

Dinner at table, yes, but first it needs time to reflect in the oven. 6-yr-old will be most disappointed if it's not ready.
Avatar 5:03pm Sem:

Roasted cauliflower soup graced the table this PM, with a dash of cubit for good measure.
Avatar 5:04pm Brian in UK:

Sem, it is getting out of hand. At some places there are nearly 6 metres of rain. Almost the same height as the new world pole vault record (6.18m)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm redkayak:

@Brian - Yikes, did you say 6 meters???
  5:04pm John from Florham park:

@Brian not much
Avatar 5:05pm Sem:

Well somebody is safe, then.

How is your backyard faring, as you are *downstream* from it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm David Dichelle:

Greetings Brian, ParUbi, Norman!

Thanks, Norman, I wonder if that is what the group had in mind.
  5:10pm northguineahills:

Listening during my work break. Hallows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm David Dichelle:

Brian, yes the weather has been dramatic to say the least - hope you are able to fend off the worst.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Carmichael:

@ngh, you're working??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm David Dichelle:

Hey there, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm David Dichelle:

A new job?
Avatar 5:12pm Sem:

Brian, is this from the local river overflowing its banks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm David Dichelle:

Brian: Those photographs are frightening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Michael 98145:

oh my, @Brian. that is some SERIOUS flooding. we usually just have grey skies for weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm redkayak:

@Brian UK - Oh my gosh. I have seen pics online, but did not know it was so dramatic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm redkayak:

Wow. Hope you and yours are OK
Avatar 5:17pm Brian in UK:

redkayak Thanks. We are lucky compared to some folks.

Sem, sure is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm redkayak:

shoot. I'd lend you my little boat if I could, friend....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm redkayak:

I once rescued a Chihuahua in that boat. Really!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm redkayak:

About the only animal that'd fit!
  5:20pm northguineahills:

Just a mall job in the meantime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm David Dichelle:

Glad to hear you're okay, I had no idea it was that bad. Mostly just heavy gusts over here.
Avatar 5:22pm Brian in UK:

Coracle man.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm redkayak:

Coracles! I once tried to make one out of a papa-san chair I garbage picked, lol.....
  5:23pm melinda:

Scary floods there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm redkayak:

It sunk, after about a 25' journey.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm redkayak:

Coracle.....Wow, that's old school. Love it!
Avatar 5:26pm Brian in UK:

People have been calling for more flood protection but government looks the other way.
redkayak, would like to have seen that. Local football team Shrewsbury Town used to play next to the river Severn, if the ball went out the ground and into the river a man with coracle would retrieve it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm redkayak:

@BrianUK - - That's an awesome story. Hopefully the current didn't sweep the ball too far away
Avatar 5:29pm Brian in UK:

Fred Davies coracle man.

Avatar 5:30pm Sem:

Here in the Annapoolis Valley, they hollow out giant pumpkins and race them across a non-flooding-raging river. Naturally, one doesn't carve a face into them, but every year, there's always one smartass...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm redkayak:

@Brian UK - Oh wow! I'm sharing this with my wife. She remembers my ill fated coracle effort ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm redkayak:

  5:40pm melinda:

Diddley. Jesus, autocorrect. There should be a musician named Bo Dudley, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm redkayak:

@sem - these are great - I'm sharing with my students & other teachers. Our school always has a fall fest, and maybe this will inspire them :D
Avatar 5:41pm Sem:

I was thinking Dave Dudley and 6 Days on the Road w/ Bo's beat happening...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm David Dichelle:

Melinda: That should be the ska version, or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm chresti:

Love this song.
  5:42pm melinda:

Yes to both!
Avatar 5:43pm Sem:

One last pumpkin thing:local farmer Howard Dill was the brains behind the 800-1000 pound pumpkins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm redkayak:

@sem- cool. DYK Illinois has a robust pumpkin industry? Something to share at your next social gathering, lol...
Avatar 5:46pm Sem:

Makes a nice change from...the corn, I think?
  5:46pm melinda:

@Sem I used to have friends in Hants County, is that in the Annapolis Valley?
Avatar 5:47pm Sem:

Yes, melinda, about 45 minutes away from here. Farm country, dairy, apples,...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm redkayak:

@Sem - Indeed. Corn & soybeans are now the monarchs of the Prairie State....
Avatar 5:51pm Sem:

My stop. A soundtrack for the ages this evening, David. Thanks and I'll catch up with you and all again, if the river don't rise. *fingers crossed*
Avatar 5:51pm Brian in UK:

Thanks, Sem, have a fine evening!

David, morpheus is calling, seizure later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm David Dichelle:

Good night, Brian, I was just about to say that the first movement was much more in a romantic vein, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm doctorjazz:

Gotta go, thanks, David!

Thanks Doctorjazz, take care...
