Hi David D!
Hello fellow Subway riders!
  3:00pm Dean:

Oh, man, Robert Hunter died yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Carmichael:

Heya David and trainspotters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Rich in Washington:

This is so weird. I was JUST THIS MINUTE Googling something about Jimi. The Jimi/McLaughlin connection, prompted by Tony playing John McLaughlin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm fred:

Good evening David and fellow travelers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm David D:

Heya Rich, Dean, Carmichael, Fred!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm chris:

hola, David and folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm David D:

Bruno and Steffen are setting up already, and will start at the top of the hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm David D:

Hola Chris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm fred:

@David: did you see the bridge/train car on Mayuko's playlist two weeks ago? wfmu.org...
Avatar 3:08pm Sem:

Hello, David and all aboard. Rockin' start. Amo, even.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm David D:

Fred: Yes, I did and approve wholeheartedly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm David D:

Thanks, Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Carmichael:

Yikes, the stream is taking some hits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm David D:

Hey Doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Phillippe Bastille:

Sorry I'm late, security's a bitch today... How's everyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm David D:

Hello Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Stanley:

Hi David and fellow passengers
(takes seat and pulls out packet of crisps)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm David D:

Welcome Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm fred:

There's actually a train strike here today. Maybe the stream wanted to show solidarity
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Brian in UK:

Hello David. Takes seat opposite man eating crisps. Avoid eye contact, looks like a weirdo!!
  3:18pm Dean:

That Jazzwerkstatt line-up is amazing. Magma! John Butcher!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm chris:

can you say verdammte scheiße on the air?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm chris:

cuz the stream issue makes me want to say it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm David D:

Chris, yes I can and probably should.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Stanley:

Would you like crisp?
(Offers bag to uptight character sitting nearby)
It's cheese and onion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm David D:

Hey Dean and Brian.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Brian in UK:

Thanks but no thanks, never eaten crisps since the blue bag of salt was removed.
Avatar 3:26pm northguineahills:

I could go for prawn crisps....
  3:29pm Dean:

This Custer LaRue record is a gem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm David D:

Virtual crisps are on the house, NGH
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:30pm chris:

i'd appreciate virtual crisps with a virtual pint, if orders are being taken.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm David D:

Virtual pints of any virtual beverage you like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm doctorjazz:

Man the broadcast is really all broken up on this end.
  3:47pm Dean:

Here, too. Shards of demon lovers.
Avatar 3:47pm duke:

Someone spilled a virtual beer on the console.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm David D:

Hey Duke, that is as good an explanation as any.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm David D:

It is holding for now - but if it continues please try the following stream starting at 4pm ET - stream.radioblau.de
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Webhamster Henry:

Funky Fanfare is familiar if you ever watched movie trailers in the 70s.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:08pm chresti:

Hello
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm David D:

Hey, Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm David D:

And Henry: Maybe that's why I'm drawn to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Rich in Washington:

David D, this is the skronkage that the doctor ordered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm David D:

Glad you enjoy the skronk, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm fred:

The stream seems more stable now
@David: what OS are you using?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm David D:

This is from the new album Spirale - Bruno and Steffen are getting ready for the next live piece...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm David D:

It is the same set-up that we've had here for years, Fred, no idea what was happening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm fred:

@David: I'm asking because MS tends to release patches on Tuesdays, and these downloads can hog bandwidth and take far too long on Windows 10
Avatar 4:32pm northguineahills:

Digging the skronky tonk!
Avatar 4:35pm duke:

Great show, but must leave. Thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm David D:

Thanks Duke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm David D:

And NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Carmichael:

Just had some crisps and a diet soda. Thanks David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm David D:

My pleasure, Carmichael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm doctorjazz:

This Frisell/Morgan album is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Carmichael:

Man, I knew this was Bill Frisell before I took the time to look ...
  5:07pm melinda:

Hi folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm David D:

Hey there Melinda
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Carmichael:

I just switched over to stream.radioblau.de, seems to work fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm David D:

Yes, that should work in any case. The WFMU stream has been good the last 90 minutes as well until just now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm David D:

Fred (before): Actually it's Linux.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm David D:

So again, for those with stream problems, feel free to switch to stream.radioblau.de
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Rich in Washington:

the glitches are really minor. I find it barely noticeable. More transfixed by this Dolphy, which is sublime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm David D:

Thanks, Rich, glad the glitching is not too terrible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Rich in Washington:

HA! I saw someone post a version of this song with Boris' picture today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm doctorjazz:

Always loved this song (I Fought The Law), don't think I've heard a version I didn't like. This reminds me of Richard Thompson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Carmichael:

The Clash did a good version as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm doctorjazz:

Well, more the band sound than three vocals, but when t gem occasionally.
Avatar 5:51pm Sem:

Enjoying the proceedings from the kitchen, at some would say a volume is higher than it needs to be. Thinking about getting a second opinion. Love this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm David D:

Thanks so much, Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Rich in Washington:

and was just this moment watching my state Senator call for impeachment proceedings. Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm David D:

This can be the new national anthem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Webhamster Henry:

You're getting to the Madagaskan version, from World Out Of Time, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm David D:

Oops a lot of Finnish talk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm David D:

Ah, Henry, you point me in directions again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm doctorjazz:

I said I never heard a version I didn't like, this seems like a challenge. So far, still loving them!
  5:57pm melinda:

Fun covers.
Avatar 5:59pm northguineahills:

Is Mary Wing in Leipzig? (oh wait, the original wasn't played first...)
Avatar 5:59pm northguineahills:

Different sound for Henry Kaiser....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm Webhamster Henry:

World Out Of Time was a big WFMU fave when it came out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Rich in Washington:

I recently learned that the original lyrics to this song included the line '..robbing people with a ZIP gun", but it was changed to 'SIX gun', for fear that it would encourage juvenile delinquents, as a homemade zip gun was supposed to be their weapon of choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Rich in Washington:

this was the time when Link Wray's Rumble was banned from many radio stations because of its title (but also because it's awesome!).
Avatar 6:07pm northguineahills:

would a 3-D printed gun be a modern analogue to a zip gun? (less likely to explode in your hand).
Avatar 6:08pm sispus:

yakışmaz :)
Avatar 6:12pm sispus:

Actually I'm not a fan of kemence sound but this song...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm David D:

Hello Sispus!
Avatar 6:13pm sispus:

Hi david!
Avatar 6:15pm sispus:

thank you for erdal erzincan. and his saz and kayhan's kemençe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm David D:

My pleasure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm doctorjazz:

Time to depart, hit the road, thanks, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm David D:

Thanks, Doctorjazz - safe travels!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Rich in Washington:

@northguineahills: I would think so. I think a zip gun in 1950s nomenclature was a piece of pipe which fits a certain cartridge, with a crude handle and a spring or rubber band loaded plunger - much like the lever of a pinball machine - which serves as its firing pin.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:21pm chris:

thanks, David! really enjoyed the show. must hop off, we're about to my continent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Rich in Washington:

I remember once visiting my grandparents when I was very young and my grandfather presented my father with a box of items which he had confiscated from him when he was a teenager and one of the items was a crude pistol he'd made by sawing off a rifle and the other, a real live 'Italian Toothpick' style switchblade knife.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm David D:

Thanks, Chris, have a good onward voyage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm David D:

Rich, those were the days...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Rich in Washington:

Imagine having to make a gun in order to get one. Now anyone can practically get military grade weapons at the impulse item section at the checkout aisle (sorry for these exclusively American references).
Avatar 6:38pm sispus:

süpürgesi yoncadan means, "her broom is made of clover" and continues with how slim her waist is, etc. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm David D:

Thanks, Sispus - that is quite a metaphor!
Avatar 6:40pm sispus:

saz actually means "instrment" in turkish. but "the instrument" is bağlama, then when you say saz, it is always bağlama.
Avatar 6:40pm northguineahills:

Can only connect for the last 20 minutes w/ my phone, perkele!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm David D:

Sispus: Thanks, that makes me feel better mixing all the terms up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm David D:

NGH: Glad you can phone it in!
Avatar 6:42pm sispus:

in some phrase, for example "saz eserleri" it is instrument, here: instrumental works (pieces)"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm David D:

So is it used for all instruments then - also non-traditional ones?
Avatar 6:47pm sispus:

yes, for all the instruments. but you must tihink of bağlama in the first place when you heard this word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm David D:

Okay, got it! (I think ;)
Avatar 6:48pm sispus:

it is like, park and "the park" :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi and bye, David. Just in from a torture session outside in the sunshine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Franco Twinkie:

JoMo is epic riffology.
Avatar 6:51pm sispus:

Dochtare Bakhtiyari : it is kurdish, i think. but i understand that. it says: "happy doctor" :) of course not, bahtiyar (happy) is the real name of the doctor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm David D:

Glad you got out of whatever it was, Franco.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:54pm chresti:

thanks David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Rich in Washington:

Loved hearing that DKs version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks for a great show, David! See you next week!
Avatar 6:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks Dave, got it to work again too!
Avatar 6:57pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey y'all! Join me next door at your leisure: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks again DD!
Avatar 6:59pm sispus:

or it is farsi and means happy girl or something (Dochtare Bakhtiyari) . sorry for my gibberishing here :)
Avatar 6:59pm sispus:

thanks david.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:00pm chresti:

Love the glitches
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm David D:
