Dean:

It's too bad "apophenia" isn't spelled "upophenia." If it were, it would be one of the rare words that includes all of the vowels. OED gives this illustration of the word from a 2012 issue of Psychology Today:

"Pattern-finding is so central to survival and success that we see patterns everywhere, even in random data—a phenomenon called apophenia. We spot faces in clouds and hear messages in records played backward."

Hi-playing the box set of Revolver, listened to the mono a couple of days ago, this morning played the stereo. Though mono seems to be the consensus among WFMU folks, I like the Stereo (I DID grow up with it, likely part of the reason, but I think you hear the various parts better on it).

Mel Collins is one of Rock n Roll's unsung saxophone players. His best solo was Alan Parsons' "Don't Answer Me". It even surpasses his most famous solo, The Rolling Stones' "Miss You"
  11:31am

Mel Collins later joined Camel. I saw Camel in its original configuration at the Roxy in LA, and then again with different personnel, e.g., Collins and Richard Sinclair. Sitting on my stack of recently received records, a huge box of Camel releases. Gotta dig in soon.

↳ Song: "Cream Puff War" by "Grateful Dead"
This sounds like a band that went to a local recording studio to cut a song for a nickel not thinking that for 30 years afterwards, they would amass a legion of fans that would follow them to the four corners of the Earth.

He is certainly all in on "Maestro." Before I heard of its release, I'd been wondering what he'd been up to lately. Now I know why it's been awhile since we've heard from him. No one could do in a few years what he's done--as director, actor, and co-screenwriter--and do much of anything else.

My error, but Bird didn't sound quite there on the tracl (much of the Dial stuff is great, he does sound, to my ears, a bit thin. But I could just be having a bot of Apophenia...)

In 1977, I was neck-deep in putting a new radio station on the air. It was not punk-friendly, so I missed the Diodes entirely.

Cool band (early Larry Coryell):
Bass – Steve Swallow
Drums – Roy Haynes
Guitar – Larry Coryell
Vibraphone – Gary Burton

I think she screams, "NOWWWW" on both the album and the single, albeit in different ways. The single has some pop affectations that attenuate the song's power. Worse yet, the instrumental fade out, capped by the long, dissonant horn note, is missing from the single. It's like releasing "A Day in the Life" without *that* piano chord. Sorta. The single came first, so maybe she improved on the single for the album, rather than having written the song as heard on the album and popping it down for the single. I hope so.

Note that these are recent playbacks from piano rolls cut by Ravel. The sound is excellent, because the recording is recent, 1992.

Part of it is not having a good one near me-just Home Depot, which is hit or miss. Occasionally you find help that is knowlegeable. Mostly hard to find help there at all, and sometimes I know more than anyone I find does (and I don't know that much in this area).
