Operation Upshot-Knothole - Nuclear Test Film (1953)
I remember seeing a lot of clips from this over the years but I had never seen the whole thing. What fascinated me was the damage done at what at first blush seem like relatively low pressures, typically in the range of 4-24 psi.
Then it hit me. Four psi is four pounds per square inch! What is the frontal area of say, a person in sq in?
A little research came up with a frontal area for an average person of 8 sq. ft. 8x144=1,152 sq. in. X 10psi equals a total pressure of 11,520 lbs! Zoot alors! No wonder those tanks were sent flying.
I am no math whiz so if my reasoning is wrong please let me know.
