Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 8:41am Doug Schulkind:

Two hours of live Doug are preferable to the alternative.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 8:42am Uncle Michael:

That drummer is slap-happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 8:46am Doug Schulkind:

Ironically, Uncle Michael, not slap-stick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 8:51am ausmanx:

yes, but the alternative is archive doug which is not so bad...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 8:52am Doug Schulkind:

The opposite of live Doug, mathematically speaking, is evil Doug. Those are the rules.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 8:58am ausmanx:

evil doug is merely a theoretical possibility, impossible to manifest in the real world. i'm sure jessie would agree

btw Doug, I was just in Pittsburgh a few weeks back for 5 days; great city, I loved it. Parking was miserable but everything else was great. My notion of Pitt has been mostly (mis)informed by the Deer Hunter until now.

Like this Back to Berks, great track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 10:42am Doug Schulkind:

In my ear, I've always associated Mike Osborne's sax sound with that of Jackie McLean, but with jagged edges. LOVE it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 10:45am Doug Schulkind:

Anthony Braxton is playing a contrabass saxophone here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 10:46am doctorjazz:

I've read somewhere that edge was because Mclean played slightly sharp, which is my sense of it as well.
Avatar Fri. 4/5/19 10:47am βrian:

Who's playing bass office chair?
  Fri. 4/5/19 10:48am Listener Gregory:

The bass saxophone is so hackneyed, right? If you don't go at least to the contra-bass, you're really just like Kenny G.
  Fri. 4/5/19 10:49am Listener Gregory:

@doctorjazz, that makes a lot of sense.

Considering any part of any composition can be incorporated into many other newer compositions, some and the performers choice, it's hard to keep track. Also, read Graham Locke's account of the classic quartet touring in the 80s, definitely mandatory.

  Fri. 4/5/19 11:19am Listener Gregory:

Speaking of kumbaya, the song of that name was credited to a German-American composer for many years. Now they have found essentially the same song recorded in 1926 by Gullah speakers in Georgia, long before the song was "written" and copyrighted. Probably everyone knows this, but I just read it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/5/19 11:19am Funky16Corners:

I did not know that!
