WFMU Marathon 2008 FAQ
Is my pledge tax deductible?
Yes. WFMU is owned and operated by Auricle Communications which is a tax
exempt organization recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal
Revenue Service. Any donation made to WFMU is tax deductible, less the
amount of any goodies you receive in exchange for your pledge. The IRS
does not require a receipt except for donations of $75 or more, in which
case WFMU will mail you a receipt in January of 2008, or earlier if you
request it.
There are so many types of pledges. What's the difference
between them all?
Here are the names of the different types of pledges, and how the money
from each type is used by WFMU. (We will honor any special request
regarding which fund to put your donation into.)
A Basic Pledge is any pledge from $10 to $364 and is used for
WFMU's basic operations - keeping the lights and the transmitter on, for
example.
A Mouse of Today Pledge is any pledge from $365 to $999 and is used
to support WFMU's online presence. In 2008, we are going to launch our own
online music player as well as a large library of free, legal music
downloads known as the Free Music Archive. We also plan to offer even more
of our programs for podcasting
(which makes MP3 archives deliverable automatically to listeners'
computers and MP3
players). Our plans for 2008 also include
our ongoing overhaul of the WFMU website to make it a more comprehensive
gateway to
all of our online offerings, from live programming and radio archives to
podcasts, to our blog, to our forthcoming Free Music Archive.
A Y3K Pledge is any pledge $1000 or higher. We use these donations
to address the station's long-term financial health and build and
endowment for the station. In 2008, Y3K pledges
will be used to both create a station endownment and also to build our
New York City transmitter which could improved reception significantly
throughout the tri-state area.
If I pledge $75 during a DJ's show, do I get a T-shirt and also the
DJ's
premium?
Yes. If the DJ's show has a special premium for
$75, you would get that premium for a $75 pledge, plus our new 50th Anniversary T-shirt, the 2008 WFMU Bumper Sticker,
and reduced Record Fair admission.

How can I make a pledge?
There are two ways to pledge. First, you can pledge
online from this very page. Second, you can call 800-989-9368 24 hours a
day (from February 25th to March 9th). Third, you can use the Marathon brochure
which was mailed in Februrary to everyone on our mailing list. Third,
you can mail a check made out to "WFMU" to PO Box 2011, Jersey
City, NJ 07303-2011.
How can I pay my pledge?
You can pay your pledge by check or money order made out to
"WFMU," or by credit card or PayPal. We prefer checks, but WFMU
also accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. We will mail
out a payment form to you and you can mail a check or the credit card info
back to us in a pre-posted envelope which we will supply. Our website is
secure, so you can safely input your credit card information onto our pledge page.
We also offer PayPal as a payment option for
listeners who have a PayPal account. If you choose the PayPal
option, then after you submit your pledge, you will receive a link to
a PayPal page on which you can send your payment to WFMU.
Many listeners prefer to pay their pledges, especially larger pledges, in
monthly installments or credit card charges. We are able to accomodate
this request for pledges of $150 and higher for credit card or PayPal payments, and
for $365 and higher for monthly billing. If you prefer to pay your
pledge by installment, please indicate this in writing when you make your
first payment, or check the appropriate payment option on the pledge page.
What if I don't pay right away?
We will send a payment form to you during or just after the March
marathon. If you are unable to pay, we will send you a follow-up
payment form in May 2008, and we will hold on to any
prizes you may have won for 10 months. If you still cannot pay in May, you
can request that we charge your credit card at any later date which you
specify.
What if I have more questions?
Please e-mail our Listener
Services Director Megan through this
page.
