Avatar 11:56am Sean in Bristol UK:

Good afternoon, Irene, hello one and all, hope everyone had a great holiday, love the photo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Irene Trudel:

Welcome Sean and all listening in today! Our Christmas was decent enough. Peter's in a state of musical ecstasy today!
Avatar 12:00pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Irene, Sean!
Avatar 12:00pm Stork:

Gettin' in at the front table with Sean in Bristol!
Avatar 12:01pm Stork:

Silvia beat me to it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Irene Trudel:

Hey, welcome Sylvia and Stork! The S's are first in line today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm doctorjazz:

Hi Irene!
Avatar 12:04pm Stork:

Do I sense what song is coming next?
HEY, DOC!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm listener james from westwood:

How do, Irene and all! The Who sounds all the better when paired with a day off!
Avatar 12:05pm Stork:

Hey, james!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Irene Trudel:

Howdy doctorjazz and james! The Who is definitely a good one for a day off-- or any day.
Avatar 12:08pm Stork:

Oh, yeah to this RTF track!
Avatar 12:09pm Stork:

PS: Did it turn out that I knew what track was coming? No. No I did not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Irene, Peter, Stork and Skeleton!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Michael 98145:

Happily almost New Year!
  12:12pm Peter K.:

Did Chick Corea steal licks from Frank Zappa, or was it vice versa? Or was there just something in the air?
  12:13pm Peter K.:

I also have a feeling '21 is gonna be a good year. Or at least a better one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Webhamster Henry:

1921 was a kind of a lousy year.
Avatar 12:14pm Stork:

THAT's THE SONG!! With Katie on vox!
  12:15pm Peter K.:

As I recall, Henry, 1921 wasn't so bad. But I was very young at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Irene Trudel:

Stork, I like to keep people guessing.Hey, Peter K, Henry and Michael! Peter, I think I agree on both points about Chick and '21.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Webhamster Henry:

@Peter K. I was 98.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm YETI BOB:

hi Irene, everyone, loving these Who cuts this morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm YETI BOB:

(still morning here in Central Time)
Avatar 12:18pm Stork:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Irene Trudel:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Doug Schulkind:

The joys of listening to Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Irene Trudel:

Too kind, Doug and all!
  12:42pm Peter K.:

Well, "Romantic Warrior" was released in 1976 and "Roxy and Elsewhere" in 1974, so...
Avatar 12:45pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene & survivors everywhere.
Avatar 12:47pm Rebecca Lewis:

Really enjoying this show! And I love the picture of Peter and the others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Irene Trudel:

Good point, Peter. Hi Brian and Rebecca! Somehow we survived this terrible year.
Avatar 12:50pm Brian in UK:

Irene as a follow on when Larry covered your show a couple of weeks & played Jimmie Spheeris, I found this link to a rare live recording from 1974. Never saw him but he sounds good. Also hitting the high note on I Am The Mercury impressed me. Thought you might like a listen.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm fred:

That's probably how I'd look if ever let into the station's record library. Probably my last pic ever as it might take a SWAT team to get me out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Irene Trudel:

Ooh, thanks for the reminder about Jimmie Spheeris. might play something by him later. Meanwhile, I just played someone Larry turned me onto-- John Buck Wilkin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Irene Trudel:

fred, the WFMU library is even bigger now, with an added center aisle. Too bad none of us are allowed in to access it since the lockdown. I gotta rely on the KeepTru music collection, which is also (thankfully) pretty substantial.
Avatar 1:11pm Constant Follower:

Late to the party. Hey Irene, All!
  1:17pm Peter K.:

Shawn Phillips lived in South Africa for quite a while but has lived in Louisville since 2016. And yeah, that hair!
  1:23pm Peter K.:

John Buck Wilkin is the son of Marijohn Wilkin, a prolific country songwriter whose compositions include "Long Black Veil." Bizarrely, he was also the lead singer of Ronny and the Daytonas, the Beach Boys soundalike band best known for "GTO."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Peter! Glad I was right about Phillips' South Africa connection. I think Guitarist Guy Buttery was a friend of his when he lived there. I also forgot to mention Wilkin collaborated with Kris Kristofferson on a few tunes on this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Constant Follower! The party here is ongoing.
Avatar 1:41pm Constant Follower:

So it seems! Love that Durutti Column Prayer. Christmas this year was a vinyl extraveganza - including a couple of Vini albums.
Avatar 1:42pm Stork:

Haco!
Avatar 1:43pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

that's some pretty music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Irene Trudel:

Can't go wrong with Vini Riley releases!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Webhamster Henry:

These early Jonis are pretty amazing.
Avatar 1:54pm Brian in UK:

Irene, is this part of the new Joni releases?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, Brian, that Joni track is on the new compilation of early works. Haven't had a chance to digest it all yet. What we've heard is really great so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning-ish, Irene! Getting a late start here but have been tuned in for that last terrific set, at least!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Irene Trudel:

Glad you're here, Summer and Michael and Sylvia! Listening is the most essential part, no comments necessary!
Avatar 2:14pm Stork:

Listen Listen goes all the way down in me blackened little soul, and comes back with pizza.
  2:16pm Cronbat:

Howdy, Irene, and all!
Avatar 2:17pm Brian in UK:

  2:55pm Cronbat:

Thanks for the show, Irene!
Will have to catch some of my missed faves ( Durutti Column, Strabs, Shawn Phillips ) on the archives
Avatar 2:55pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Kurt Rosenwinkel most definitely rocks my boat, me thinks the rest of the album is worth investigating
Avatar 2:56pm Constant Follower:

Thanks for the great show Irene! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks to you all for listening in today and always! It's been great to return to a regular show this year-- one of the few things I can be grateful for in 2020. May you all have a wonderful, safe New Year's celebration and a better 2021! Stay tuned for The Stork Club, coming up next.
Avatar 2:56pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Beautiful, beautiful show, Irene, profuse thanks
