Happy Boxing Day, all! Just for the record, I found out that Ruth has taken the weekend off, and Darren is the board op this morning. Please ignore any later shoutouts to Ruth for being at the station. How dare she get some downtime! Good morning Darren and thank you!

Hello all! RIP Harold Budd :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20am

Good morning Zetti! Budd was scheduled to play two nights at St. George's Church last year, and I was going to go to one of those. They were cancelled, I believe for health reasons.

Jeffrey is that a Brooklyn scene? I like the absence of tall buildings.
  6:32am
Zetti:

@Jeffrey. I heard about that concert. I think it was here on your show. I thought... that would be a special performance, years in the waiting, well worth the trip to NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33am
Jeffrey Davison:

@Heidee and TDK60: Thanks! Shot in Tompkins Square Park, in the East Village, a few days ago. Those buildings are on East 10th Street, the northern end of the park.
Avatar 6:34am
TDK60:

Ah, I was thinking it looks similar to a scene I know, was going to say it could also be lower Manhattan. Tomkins Sq. Pk. I walk through often when visiting friends. A lot of history in that park!

I see the park is still fenced off?

Avatar 7:21am
TDK60:

Irish day of the wren is St. Stephen's day in other parts of Europe.
Avatar 7:22am
Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Heidee yes! "la fève", at first it was a dried fava bean, now you find little ceramic characters. they can be biblical representation, or licensed characters from Disney and such.
Whoever gets la fève becomes King/Queen for the day, and gets to wear a paper crown (sold with the pastry)
Avatar 7:22am
Zoot:

There is a Day of the Wren song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23am
Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60: so the wren flew to Europe and became St. Stephen? I don't remember that from my catechism.
Avatar 7:24am
Sylvia (France-NYC):

the tradition says youngest guest has to go under the dining table, and pick slices for each guest (under the table so there's no cheating, in case la fève can be seen from the sliced galette)
Avatar 7:25am

The wren was looking for a favs bean.

There are two different sorts: the most famous one is la galette parisienne, made with two puff pastries and an almond filling, the other one is from South East region of Provence, it's brioche like, with candied fruits on top (sometimes inside as well), and it's wreath-shaped, it's called la couronne des rois (the Kings' crown, in reference to the 3 Wise Men)

Noel:

Well, we should outlaw cars, then. We live on a planet; we have to be able to work. I have no idea how to pay my bills because my work got cut.

Wfmu. listener paul:

@Sylvia france i would think that is the rest if the station:)
@Joe i still stay away from it. but if someone like noel wants to go there, more power to him

noel: cars are regulated, we don't just let anyone drive one anywhere. i'm sorry you are out of work. and sorry our gov't won't take care of people
  8:40am
Noel:

Well, Joe, if DJs didn't act like they had the answers to controversial problems, it wouldn't happen during such good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40am
Jeffrey Davison:

Noel: that's a different issue, and I don't have an answer for that, unfortunately, no more than I have an answer for vaccine research and distribution, restaurants and other businesses staying open, and relief bills from Congress. I wish you the best, and hope that the new year brings relief for you and all who are in straitened circumstances. Forget the car thing...it's a bad comparison.

Wfmu. listener paul:

And with this i bow out. Did not want to get to political this morning.

I’m pretty sure “they let just about anybody drive”. I mean I must say that any time I’m driving. Also, “hey you damn kids!”

Beautiful pick today, Jeffrey. Tasteful, ethereal. On to better times, all. Enjoy the season. Going for a walk in the woods with our dog, crystal clear air. Time to breathe. x

Noel: I made a few sarcastic comments. Nothing about having the answers to anything.
Avatar 8:43am
YETI BOB:

If there had been a more serious response early on, rather than all the mixed messages, finger-pointing and confusion, we'd probably be done with this thing by now (like in China).

If someone wants to wear a full hazmat suit, they are free to do it. Everyone should be free to make their own choices about this.

Noel are you a John Prine fan? He died of it.
The numbers of dead are higher than for war dead combined. & it didn't have to be. If the pandemic had been dealt with responsibly & realistically - the economy & our jobs would be in a much better place. Everyone knew what would happen to both health & business - but it's a catastrophic failure of leadership - a tidal wave of lies & disinformation. God Help Us All my friend. Don't be the last to die or kill before vaccines arrive.

Noel: In a civil society, you are not free to make choices that endanger others. We've got some screwy ideas about "freedom" in the USA
