just talking about gopro yesterday.
wished i'd bought a new one when i almost did, when a top-of-the-line one was $200.
Avatar 12:08pm Mary Wing:

We must remember that the Euro listeners have that unfair advantage of being several hours earlier, so they get to the top of the hour before we 'Muricans, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm WR:

Hello 100% Mary and Whomever.

First bit of this tweaked me. Some one really matched that Coltrane tone?!? Taking a look, interesting mashup.
Avatar 12:08pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

bought a GoPro for my kids last Xmas, they've never used it :/
Avatar 12:08pm coelacanth∅))):

Avatar 12:09pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Rev Rab and WR! This is a mash-up of Coltrane and Sun 0))) songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Mary and wing dings. On his show that just finished, the last GIF that Ken showed was the ladies' heels pushing against each other.

yes I did, David, yesterday! I really liked it, it's so interesting to watch, so thank you for that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm David (in London):

Mary, I confess I took some performance enhancing drugs to get to the top of the hour first. Sadly, they showed up on a subsequent drugs test, so I was stripped of the title, which now goes to Phillippe.
Avatar 12:14pm Hubig Pie:

Sounds of the season
Avatar 12:15pm Mary Wing:

Hi Ken and Hubig! Yay for kicking up some high heels! I love that gif so much!

Hi Mary. I'm here, fashionably late, as usual.
I'll just mingle, if that's okay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning-ish, Mary! And all Whatever-ers!
Avatar 12:21pm Mary Wing:

Hello Carmichael, Stanley, and S&M&S! Mingle away!

Heh, of course I meant Europe is later, I am obviously in need of caffeine for my brain to function properly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm David (in London):

Hey Hubig, Carmichael, Stanley, S&M&S
Avatar 12:25pm Hubig Pie:

Avatar 12:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Europe is later - so they get there earlier
...caffeine ! Quite.
Avatar 12:27pm Sem:

Hello, Mary, and greets to the early 100%, and who's there? to those hidden behind the curtains. Hello, David iL, Stanley, and Carmichael way out there in the golden state.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Stanley:

Hi David and all asssembled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Handy Haversack:

Quite.

I am pulling the plug on work for 2020. I have done. Getting myself together to take the hound on our peregrination, but hopefully we'll be back in time four 3OAK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm fred:

I didn't really get La Jetée. Then again I saw it as a background to a dance show I didn't like much, which probably didn't help
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Stanley:

Catch ya later Handy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Handy Haversack:

4? 3? I was told there wouldn't be any math(s).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Carmichael:

Heya Sem and David the Londoner. It's dreary here, not golden. No snow either, at least not since I was about 19 ...
Avatar 12:31pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@fred you couldn't hear the narration? no captions?

Hi Mary!
Hi everybody!
Avatar 12:50pm Mary Wing:

Hah hah, Hi Rich! Happy Crispness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Stanley:

Egg nog is an American thing. We have Dutch advocaat, over here which I think, is the nearest we get but its alcoholic.
Avatar 12:51pm Mary Wing:

Oh man, I am so buying egg nog today! I wait all year for this!
Avatar 12:52pm Mary Wing:

How do you make like paper, anyway? Sheath? Leaf?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Stanley:

Hi Sem. I've got the wood stove going, glass of Chateau de Plonk in hand, feeling nice and bucolic.
Avatar 12:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...since 2020 was bubonic...
Avatar 12:55pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

made eggless eggnog, out of curiosity, quite disappointing, sticking to egg-y eggnog
Avatar 12:56pm Hubig Pie:

Chateau de Plonk , that be a prestige label of the top shelf variety ? Greets, Spodi.
Avatar 12:56pm Mary Wing:

What does egg nog taste like without the eggs???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm David (in London):

I tried nogless eggnog, and that was disappointing, too. Plain old eggnog is definitively the way forward.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Stanley:

When I was picking oranges in Greece, breakfast on cold winter mornings was a large brandy, sugar and a raw egg. Set us up nicely until the 'field bar' opened at 10am.
Avatar 12:59pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

eggnog tastes like vanilla, nutmeg, sugar, (and booze), dairy?
eggless is made with vanilla bean pudding, but I didn't get the nice, smooth eggnog consistency, and it was like drinking flan. Egg richness is needed.
Avatar 12:59pm Hubig Pie:

that has put me in a jolly mood
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Stanley:

(Apologies for another Tale of a Younger Man)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Ike:

Are the oranges orange in Greece? They're green in parts of Asia, and now I've noticed those wacky green oranges invading Kensington, Brooklyn as well, but only the Bangladeshi part of the neigborhood.
Avatar 1:01pm Mary Wing:

I'm still waiting on your Japanese toilet story, Stanley. Perhaps you'll tell it for 2021?
Avatar 1:01pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

we need the oral story of it, Mary
Avatar 1:02pm Mary Wing:

Hi Ike! I talk of toilets and you appear, heh.

Avatar 1:04pm Sem:

Stanley@12:52: wood heat and a fine vintage, surely you are now a country gentleman, with or without colic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Stanley:

Ike - the oranges are very orange in Greece. After a snowfall the trees looked amazing. The type we picked were Navels, which the Greeks refered to as 'Californians' (Technical note: oranges that had suffered frost were picked for juice)
Avatar 1:05pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Daona, nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm David (in London):

Ah, hello Nightside of Eden!
Strap yourselves in everyone, this may take a while....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Stanley:

Daona!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Carmichael:

We grow LOTS of navel oranges out here, especially in SoCal. Up here, we have more mandarins than anything else.

Avatar 1:07pm Mary Wing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Stanley:

Thanks S&M&S, appreciate it.
Avatar 1:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

David it was like a pocket reflection on Recording itself if I may be so grandiose - ambient tones & environments - yet with engaging momentum. Meditative & cinematic @ turns... Composed very well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Phillippe Bastille:

Ha Mary, I love that second one!
Avatar 1:50pm Mary Wing:

Why so much hate for the panflute, though? What's it done to deserve so much ridicule?
Avatar 1:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Zamfir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm David (in London):

Rev Rabbit - From a connoisseur such as yourself, I take that as a profound compliment. I guess the aim was to make our own small version of The Faust Tapes, collaged but coherent, and hopefully engaging across several moods.
Avatar 1:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Otoh the simple Woodwind is clearly a most primal instrument - expression thru air - breath itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm fred:

I played pan flute for a few years in my late teens. Then again I reached regional level on bass recorder before that, so standards weren't high

Mary: inquiring minds think alike:www.reddit.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Phillippe Bastille:

One of my sons has taken to walking into the room when I have certain FMU programs on and deadpan asking "Is this music?". One time he asked when the robot vacuum was wheezing it's last, so I guess he has legitimate difficulty discerning between music/not music.
PSA: don't waste your money buying robot vacs from Goodwill. It always ends in tears. And little plastic parts.

I know of the Suzi Quatro cover, but, otherwise, I'm cluesless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Goldfrapp - almost certainly Summer's fav artist...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Phillippe Bastille:

Lee Fox?
Avatar 2:07pm Mary Wing:

Yes! Thanks Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Stanley:

Seventh Tree is one of my all time favourite albums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm David (in London):

Now Wing must surely have done this one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Phillippe Bastille:

Just recognized the voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Phillippe Bastille:

(not)
Avatar 2:08pm northguineahills:

you kids are so quick (got 6 months of unemployment, so I got a hotel room, slept 13 hours yesterday, and 9 today (just woke again).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Handy Haversack:

Don't toy with us, David!
Avatar 2:09pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@fred @2:02 I figured it out
Avatar 2:09pm Mary Wing:

Hi NGH! How are you doing lately?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Phillippe Bastille:

good to hear NGH
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm David (in London):

You have to listen to this when you motor on down to Devilgate Drive.

NGH - Glad you managed to get your head down, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Hey everybody! Love this song.
Avatar 2:13pm northguineahills:

I'm still waiting for Mary to do a marathon Karaoke cover of a meta-Wing cover.

It took two months of calling, waiting on call (three claims in the last year), and waiting for a reprehensive, then their supervisor, and then a supervisor, and if lucky, a manager before they closed shop at 18:30. Finally got one last week that gave a fuck last week.
Avatar 2:13pm Mary Wing:

Hello Lizzie! Happy holidays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm David (in London):

Now you're talking. Let's rock!
Avatar 2:14pm Mary Wing:

Now is the time on Sprockets when we RAWK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Stanley:

Love this Suzi Qutro cover. Sneaked in a sample from something I couldn't put my finger on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Andrew_in_WI:

A different machine
Avatar 2:14pm northguineahills:

errr, representative/////
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm fred:

@Sylvia: Cool, I was worried you'd be angry for that mistake (for the record, I did get someone with a clue to maybe help Lisa)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Stanley:

David - Devilgate Drive exactly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Handy Haversack:

Heh, good malapropism, ngh. Kate went through something very similar before the money kicked loose. It's a disaster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Stanley:

This Cult shaving cream rocks good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Yeah hearing the same unemployment stories from other people. Sucks.
Avatar 2:18pm northguineahills:

I originally got the Goldfrapp 3" cd demo single in 2003 while djing and some record label rep gave me a gift bag of cds and flyers (like I was a taste maker) or something) (It was the Chelsea Hotel [curator worked for Kill Rock Stars, old college friend])
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm fred:

@ngh: You realize that if you got someone who gave a fuck they've been fired for cause by now. Got lucky for a change
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Stanley:

Phew!
Avatar 2:19pm Mary Wing:

The title is "influencer" now, NGH, not taste maker. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm David (in London):

I don't mind confessing that I was air guitaring round the kitchen like a madman there. Hats off to Billy Duffy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Handy Haversack:

Kate's working on a Cult cover.
Avatar 2:21pm northguineahills:

Unless FL gets a new governor soon, I might be looking for other pastures. in NY, it took, 20 mins online (for unemployment), and it was automatic, and it lasted a year (and paid 4x as much)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm fred:

@David (iL): vids or it didn't happen, as the kids says. Or so I hear, but my hearing isn't improving
Avatar 2:24pm Mary Wing:

"She Sells Sanctuary," Handy? Or "Dreamtime?"
Avatar 2:25pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

oh, I hadn't recognized this was Annie Lennox
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm David (in London):

Fred. It's worse than that. The Cult did that track on the Whistle Test in '87. I videoed it, and played it a million times to learn Billy Duffy's guitar poses and teach myself the solo (which even after 33 years I am still crap at playing).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

We've always thought that "influencer" was an especially clunky coinage. It's akin to calling an author a "writer-downer-er". One really shouldn't subject the English language to such mistreatment...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Handy Haversack:

"She Sells Sanctuary," Mary. I think they might two do EPs, one of covers, in the spring.
Avatar 2:27pm Mary Wing:

I want to be a writer-downer, heh!
Avatar 2:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Muse - music already an adjective - musical...
Avatar 2:29pm northguineahills:

I always get this Spaceheads group confused w/ the Yamataka Eye drill&bass noise outfit.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

It is, of course, however, perfectly acceptable to dub oneself a Whatever-er in this context, we believe...
Avatar 2:29pm Mary Wing:

100%, S&M&S!
Avatar 2:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Musical again a Noun...
Writer-downer is in a way pertinent. Writers Write & all that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm fred:

@RevRab: you got me worried that Mary played Muse for a momnt
Avatar 2:31pm Mary Wing:

I luh-luh-love the Del-byzanteens, yes, I do.
Avatar 2:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...sorry for throwing muses fred...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm David (in London):

This really swings.
Avatar 2:33pm Bas NL:

You can call me a late-switcher-inner.. Hi Mary! 100 %ters!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

RRN - we think a writer-downer would be fine. Sylvia Plath comes to mind. It's the writer-downer-ER we think is more the coinage equivalent of "influencer"...
Avatar 2:34pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Bas! Merry Happy and Joyous to you!
Avatar 2:36pm Bas NL:

Thanks Mary! Merry warm Happy to you too!
Avatar 2:38pm Mary Wing:

My beef with influencers is that they are just overhyped paid shills when all is said and done.
Avatar 2:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Alan Watts on our insistence on separating Noun & Verb - when they are just parts of speech. It starts to pile up - abstraction on abstraction. Orwell territory. We are the tool-using ape - we are too familiar with word & concept to reflect on them as tools & how we handle them... & then there's that kid in class who just will never understand how to diagram a sentence...
Avatar 2:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Much like Being Famous for Being Famous. Follow the moneys eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm fred:

Didn't Muse do a lame cover of Dracula Mountain? Definitely not a request, though this is tops: youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Phillippe Bastille:

Someone should do a set of songs that normally get mixed into Christmas playlists that really aren't about Christmas, like Joni Mitchell's "River" and Ben Folds' "Brick". Nothing like listening to a song about scraping money together for an abortion when you're hangin' the mistletoe
  2:43pm Mark R:

The Low Lows, not to be confused with Low.
Avatar 2:43pm northguineahills:

Low Lows, new to me (how is it possible?!!!) Digdug!
Avatar 2:44pm northguineahills:

(should play w/ Low.....)
Avatar 2:44pm Mary Wing:

I would think someone's already done that, Phillippe, no? Something like Miserable Xmess, maybe?
Avatar 2:44pm Bas NL:

Very nice this by The Low Lows! Just enough over the top.
Avatar 2:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Now performing Boowie's 'Low' with Lulu...
Avatar 2:45pm Mary Wing:

Hi Mark! Happy holidays to you and Debbie! I love all the Lows, in all combinations!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Phillippe Bastille:

Probably. I'm not known for terribly original ideas.
Avatar 2:46pm Sem:

@Phillippe: funny you should say re: River. and other Christmas songs Read this earlier today: www.openculture.com...
Avatar 2:46pm Mary Wing:

A wise person once said "The ancients stole all our ideas" heh.
Avatar 2:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the Whirrrr on Xmas...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Sem wow! Recorded 763 times! Mary, get started!
Avatar 2:48pm Mary Wing:

I like my holidays with a healthy helping of FEEDBACK, yah!
Avatar 2:48pm Sem:

"the ancients..." Ed Ruscha.
Avatar 2:48pm Mary Wing:

763 of a kind, wow.
Avatar 2:49pm northguineahills:

@Mary: see Psychocandy, or if in the mood, any Merzbow....
Avatar 2:49pm northguineahills:

Dear Eloise, also new to me, reminds me of Black Tambourine....
Avatar 2:50pm Bas NL:

*Puts a new log on the fire.*
Avatar 2:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'm told Marychain sound checks included marking the venue floor with tape for specific feedback angles...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Andrew_in_WI:

@ngh I'm surprised Merz hasn't released an xmas album
Avatar 2:52pm Mary Wing:

And, the classic new-wave Xmas tune is next!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks and have a Mary Christmas or whatever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

Ok, gotta promote one of the younger Bastilles -- my son makes his big screen debut this weekend (unless he got cut, but they asked him how he wanted his name on the credits so there's hope). If you have HBO Max, or are planning a trip to the cinema, watch "Wonder Woman 1984" -- he's the wedding photographer. He may have a line or two.
Avatar 2:53pm northguineahills:

@Andrew: every Merzbow record is a xmas record...

....and Ken beat me to it....

Gracias, Mary, feliz navidad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Phillippe Bastille:

(actually comes out on Christmas Day)
Avatar 2:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 2:54pm Mary Wing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Handy Haversack:

Thanks, Mary! Another great show!

Be well, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Handy Haversack:

Wow, Phillippe!
Avatar 2:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sorry but Xmas rapping is an annoying overexposed song about how annoying Xmas is. It's got nothing.
Avatar 2:55pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

happy holidays, Mary, hope you'll get some eggnog, thanks for the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Phillippe Bastille:

The down side is I now have to teach my 90 year old mother how to work a Roku tonight...
Avatar 2:55pm Mary Wing:

"Christmas by myself this year" applies to almost everyone in 2020, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm David (in London):

Phillippe, that's very cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Andrew_in_WI:

@Mary You said new wave xmas and I KNEW what it would be
Avatar 2:56pm northguineahills:

@Rev Rabbit: I've never heard this Waitresses track, and I dig the Waitresses. First time for everything....
Avatar 2:57pm Sem:

Nice way to wrap up the show. See you and all again before too long, I hope.
Avatar 2:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 2:57pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Finally, the Waitresses! Now Christmas can start!
  2:59pm Listener Robert:

Yay, and you finished with a favorite of mine!
Avatar 2:59pm Bas NL:

I once bought a stack of of cassette tapes of this dutch Noise act. Nicely decorated and mangled.. but blank tapes.. "Why? You actually played them? You're the first.. i'll send you the MP3s!"
Avatar 2:59pm Mary Wing:

Thanks cronbat and Robert
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Is Evan Bittner the right photographer? - www.imdb.com...
Avatar 2:59pm Bas NL:

Thanks Mary! I'll rewind the archive now.
Avatar 3:00pm Mary Wing:

Thanks for listening, everyone! Enjoy the season and those close to you!
  3:00pm Listener Robert:

I'm usually listening to World's Worst Records in this hour, but now that I've started cardiac rehab I can't get home in time for that in its entirety, so I'll listen in full to the archive. But YOU I can jump in to any time.
