Good evening Irene, hello one and all. Happy Winter Soltice for Northern Hemisphere folks, light starts returning in our favour and boy, is that relevant now. Happy Holidays. The tree looks fab, Irene.

Ah, good to have you here, Sean! We can begin now that you're here. BTW, today show will be an extra-long one. I'm filling in for Kenzo from 3-5pm, so lots more music for the holidaze!

Welcome YETI BOB, Sylvia, Brian, Henry, james and TDK60! Trying to get us all in some kind of decent spirits for the holidays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
Irene Trudel:

James, that's the view out our westward window in the dark. YETI BOB, those CDs are mostly our classical, soundtrack and Christmas CDs. The rest stretch down a long hallway. I'll have to post a picture of that someday.
Avatar 🥁 12:08pm
YETI BOB:

@Irene: I'm in a pretty good mood, we heard Hamid Drake and Michael Zerang do their morning solstice concert today via livestream, their 30th year doing this. It was inspiring.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:08pm

HI-Loving this Fahey! (I've never been a big Fahey fan, always thought his shtick was to recycle blues guitar back ups without the vocals, but have to reevaluate it seems).
Avatar 🥁 12:11pm
YETI BOB:

@doctorjazz: his recorded output is vast and there's a lot of variety. his late records got pretty strange.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
doctorjazz:

So I see, I developed my take on him from the solo guitar things he did, which were very derivative to my ears. But, I obviously shut out other stuff he did, will have to investigate (it's on my very long list of music to check out).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Brian in UK:

YETI BOB, saw Hamid Drake with William Parker at Cafe Oto. Confess I watched the drummer more than the bass player.
Avatar 🥁 12:15pm
YETI BOB:

@Brian: Parker/Drake is a great duo. I saw them at Jazz Fest a few years ago, William Parker was supposed to give a lecture about the art of improvisation

Gutars a guitarin' and violins a-violinin' - it's Monday at Irene's! We're settling in for the day with you, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Irene Trudel:

doctorjazz, you really must check out Fahey's "Requia" album, and the Portland Cement Factory, etc. There's a lot more going on in his music, even the solo stuff.
Avatar 🥁 12:16pm
YETI BOB:

He started with: "Well, I'm supposed to talk about improvising. We're going to start off with a demonstration, and after that I'll talk and take questions"
Avatar 🥁 12:16pm
YETI BOB:

You can probably guess what happened. Hamid and William played for the whole hour, then "Oops, out of time!"

Love this Low album. They are probably our most beloved - part of our DNA. And we remember that great show of yours, Irene, when you had them on at Christmas, live, with all these songs. We actually taped it off 91.1, later burning it to CD-R and listen still every year!

Hopefully in the not too distant future Bipolar Explorer will come to Bristol to play

This Sigurðsson is very evocative of cold, starry winter skies. It's misty, wet and cloudy here in northern Germany. Wish I could see the dang planets doing thier convergence thing but the whole week will be clouds.

Your pix of the Croton Reservoir remind me of the funny associative way my mind works. Early this century, when I was biking the Old Croton Aqueduct, what movie was I reminded of? "Gangs of New York", because I was thinking about the anti-cholera spray truck because they were using the local ground for both water supply and disposal.
