"The Good Place" is a network sit-com; it's something that on the surface I would normally avoid like the plague, but Ms. Low was watching and I got inadvertently exposed to. It's a solid B- grade from me, but that's quite high for a modern network sit-com for me. Some of the jokes are a bit dopey and hokey, but I like the philosophical content.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Pedro in Arlington:

YouTube is full of incredible TV Christmas specials of old - probably every one hosted by Dean Martin, Bob Hope, Judy Garland. There's a Liberace 1953 that I gotta watch. Also compilations of Christmas ads. Burger King seemed more into the season than McDonald's. A lot of stores that were "your Christmas headquarters" ain't no more ... Radio Shack, Woolworth's, Sears. Thanks YouTube.
  12:20pm DG:

For those interested, the Bee Gees doc. is on HBO today, around 4--4:30. Will probably tune in, although I have mixed feelings on them: love the early stuff but can't get past the disco & high-pitched vocalizing which sounds like they're in pain. As for the Waitresses track, yes, it's a classic, but it was covered a lot, from the Spice Girls to the cast of "Glee."
  12:20pm gf2002:

The Burglar is full of 50's Philly references, like the wealthy woman watching John Facenda on the news every night with a beer...and that's when Duryea's gang breaks in. Same with the views of old Atlantic City and the Steel Pier. Highly recommend that film.

"The Good Place" is one of the best network sitcoms of the last decade or so, but you have to watch it from the beginning (& the first few seasons are better). About death, the afterlife, being a moral person (the lead character was an awful person who is trying to be better), philosophy, etc. ----it's an incredible balancing act & while it goes on a bit too long it's soooo much better than the usual mix of juvenilia and hacky jokes that most sitcoms have turned into.

Life and Adventures of Santa Clause - Rankin /Bass version of Frank Baum (Wizard of Oz) story. Young Santa gets a life lesson about "Man's inhumanity to man" from an immortal. War, greed physical and mental cruelty - all in glorious stop motion!

That song would be better if it actually sounded Mexican. I want the mariachi version.

oh - haven't seen this since it debuted, but the 'first' Walton's show was a xmas special, and much better than the series that followed.

Does anyone remember, “Nestor, the long eared Christmas donkey”? It’s Rankin Bass off the rails. His poor donkey mother dies of exposure!

Any scene in a movie that could aptly be called 'the wheelchair scene' is automatically not going to end well. See the original Manhunter for another unforgettable W.S.
