Be shaken. Be stirred. A whimsical wham-bam of exotic enchantments, sleazy oddities, pop fancies, and swingin’ slingers broadcast from Ridgewood, NYC’s very own Shangri-Lounge. Best served chilled, garnished with signature swizzle schtick.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Rich in Washington:

This is wonderful!
Avatar 6:10pm Domenic:

Hello, Some interesting tracks. Like the picture of the dancing couple.
Avatar 6:12pm shangri-lounge:

thanks! trying to keep this evening a little more up-beat. :)
Avatar 6:12pm Mr Fab:

Hi DJ S-L, that last track was echo-tastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm notsoKWYET:

This is a jam!!!!
Avatar 6:15pm shangri-lounge:

Riiiight? It's stuck in my head all the time!
Avatar 6:15pm shangri-lounge:

hey, mr. fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Rich in Washington:

another banger. Totally new to my ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Rich in Washington:

The Night People. A great Pacific Northwest band.
I always wondered if they took their name from the great Jean Shepherd essay.
Avatar 6:19pm shangri-lounge:

someone smarter than me will have to answer that one, Rich! :-p
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Rich in Washington:

You're killing it with these choice slabs!
Avatar 6:24pm shangri-lounge:

Thanks, Rich! I'm gonna keep this momentum going the whole set! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

That freeze dried ice cream is pretty good, not gonna lie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Rich in Washington:

Right on! Now's the time to ramp up self-care, etc. It's gloomy, and not just because of the weather/season.
Avatar 6:30pm shangri-lounge:

"astronaut ice cream"
Avatar 6:31pm shangri-lounge:

yeah, not to beat a dead horse, but it's true. sometimes i need reminding!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

It's certainly better than Space Food Sticks (70's snack treat)
Avatar 6:36pm shangri-lounge:

is that anything like fish sticks? because that's exactly what i am imagining.
Avatar 6:37pm shangri-lounge:

oh, they are energy bars! mmm, tasty.
Avatar 6:37pm shangri-lounge:

can i have my red bull in solid form, plz?
Avatar 6:38pm Feldpausch:

I love capers
Avatar 6:44pm Mr Fab:

Interesting, that version of “Another Man Done Gone,” It was originally a pretty grim old folk song about a hanging, but that put a more pop spin on it.
Avatar 6:45pm shangri-lounge:

oh, cool. thanks for that tid-bit, mr. fab. is there a more well recognized version i should check out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Rich in Washington:

I am tempted to make an oldschool fish stick casserole.
Avatar 6:58pm shangri-lounge:

Honestly, I'd still fux with some fish sticks. They were one of my favs as a kid.
Avatar 6:58pm shangri-lounge:

But any vessel for ketchup is good with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm WR:

I'm listening and thoroughly puzzled by most of your selections today.
Avatar 6:59pm Mr Fab:

Johnny Cash did a great version of “Another Man Done Gone,” way back. Pretty scary goth stuff. One can imagine Nick Cave covering it.
Avatar 7:00pm shangri-lounge:

Ah, interesting! Thanks, Mr. Fab!
Avatar 7:01pm shangri-lounge:

Thanks, WR. Come back next week for some more thoroughly puzzling content!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Rich in Washington:

I love being puzzled by DJs playing amazing songs that are new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm WR:

For one example:
The Fortune Tellers ‎from an album named Song Of The Nairobi Trio doing a song called Pagliacci Cha Cha Cha. I just can't keep up with the references. ;))

And shake it? Shake the tingle tingle?
Avatar 7:04pm shangri-lounge:

You're not wrong, WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm WR:

Do it Mr. Bo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Rich in Washington:

Wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Rich in Washington:

I love Thai and Cambodian rock.
Avatar 7:17pm Mr Fab:

Ha, Booker T’s “ Green Onions.” With egg roll.
Avatar 7:18pm shangri-lounge:

Yes, I scooped this from that Thai Beats A-Go-Go comp!
Avatar 7:18pm shangri-lounge:

It's so good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm notsoKWYET:

very cool track...
Avatar 7:18pm shangri-lounge:

This Cal Tjader song reminds me of the Peanuts gang
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm notsoKWYET:

I just got this Cal Tjader record this week!
Avatar 7:19pm shangri-lounge:

which is very Thanksgiving...
Avatar 7:19pm shangri-lounge:

ah, Breeze From the East is so good. I finally just got a copy over the summer.
Avatar 7:20pm shangri-lounge:

of course I also love Several Shades of Jade, too!!
Avatar 7:23pm Mr Fab:

Well, dang, gotta put all those in my shopping cart.
Avatar 7:25pm shangri-lounge:

they're all pretty reasonably priced on discogs. about $20-ish per.
Avatar 7:26pm shangri-lounge:

And that's for VG+. From my memory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm WR:

I Got Loaded became a standard for Zydeco bands. This may be the first time I've heard Little Bob's version. Now trying to remember whose version is most burned into my memory.
Avatar 7:30pm shangri-lounge:

Ah, cool. Little Bob's is the first version I've heard. And, he's actually French!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm notsoKWYET:

this song.. anytime.
Avatar 7:32pm shangri-lounge:

Yessss! I'm dancing in place right now as I type this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm notsoKWYET:

THE DRUMMING IN THIS SONG
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm notsoKWYET:

fuck the tone on those drums are everything... that BASS DRUM... YESSSSSsss... give me that new orleans second line bass drum pattern.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Rich in Washington:

Wow. This isn't the kind of music I associate with Norman Luboff, but what do I know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm notsoKWYET:

wait.... that was THEE John Williams?!
Avatar 7:42pm shangri-lounge:

you'd be schoolin' me here, Notsokwyet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Rich in Washington:

There was also a classical guitarist named John Williams. I remember as a Star Wars fanatic kid hearing a PBS show go 'next up, John Williams' and was so disappointed.
Avatar 7:43pm shangri-lounge:

that was a much better example of Normal Luboff's music than what I could have played. we have at least one LP here, and it's not the greatest...
Avatar 7:44pm shangri-lounge:

Norman*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow. Unless someone's entered that song wrong on Discogs, Johnny Williams does indeed point to movie composer John Williams!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Rich in Washington:

So, yeah. That's John Williams playing Sadaba.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm notsoKWYET:

I used discogs as well... So I wasn't schooling anyone lol ...
Avatar 7:49pm shangri-lounge:

LOL, appreciate your honesty.
Avatar 7:50pm shangri-lounge:

I've only just recently watched Star Wars.
Avatar 7:50pm shangri-lounge:

perhaps that's why Kylo Ren didn't offend me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm notsoKWYET:

Also - that John Williams guitarist kinda looks like John Williams without a beard lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Rich in Washington:

Willie Bobo's such a great name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Pauly from Clifton:

Thanks, DJ Shangri-La! Great music to cook by. Have a great holiday all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Rich in Washington:

Wonderful show, shangri-lounge!
Avatar 8:00pm shangri-lounge:

Thanks for listening, Pauly!
Avatar 8:01pm shangri-lounge:

Glad you liked it, Rich! Nice compliment coming from you. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm WR:

Thank you for spinning my head round with sounds today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm WR:

And Rich, I'm gonna search for fish stick casserole to see what that leads to.
