Hello Stork and patrons
  12:07pm
Dean:

Been reading up on aspects of the Renaissance. I've never been a fan of Leonardo; something about his work has always struck me as off. Much prefer Leonardo's contemporary Raphael and their senior Leon Battista Alberti. Anyway, Edgar Wind wrote critically of Leonardo that he "explored the great secrets of nature, releasing and harnessing its concealed forces by 'suitable and peculiar inducements'. The episodic method of his experimentation, so baffling to modern scientists because of its unconsecutive, conjectural style, is a pursuit of elective affinities that are of magical power--inconspicuous causes that produce amazing effects." He was, in other words, a nutcase.

@Dean: I sometimes get email at work from the scientific side, with subject line in bureaucratese: words are abbreviated to the first three letters, with a dot. If a word has fewer than three, it often gets a trailing dot anyway. I usually have no idea what it means, but since the body is usually a string of acronyms with a link I don't have access to, no big deal

okay spodi 1 was johnny rotten then. i don't hate him, i just don't think he deserves to be famous.
but in that picture he was employing his "intimidation stare", which is far more laughable than intimidating! it reminds me of when i was little and my brother would stick his chin out, in an attempt to intimidate me. he added a similar glare to the underbite. finally i asked "what's wrong with your chin?" and he knuckle-punched my arm.
i thought there was another but maybe not.

Meanwhile this Guy at Other Music, when he could get a word in edgewise, sheepishly says, "Well, we think it's worth what we're asking for it bla bla, and smiles lamely. I thought Donna was going to hit him over the head with something. My god, fierce isn't even the word for her.
