my take and also what i say in those situations is that we don't know what happens next and it may well be NOTHING so why don't we hang around to see what happens. it may suck but it may also be interesting.
the big hurtle is over the fear of pain/discomfort.

I think facing death, others who are undeniably close, and your own which hopefully isn't staring you in the face is difficult no matter what the weather is like, but unrelenting gloom can make it seem that much worst. Hopefully when the rain stops and you can go outside without getting soaked will lift you up a little.

i saw a guy today and for the very last time, 'works for a moving company. when i met him a few months ago i told him he reminds me of a radio host, Marty McSorley. we talked and i was sure he'd like the show, and beyond.
this time i wrote the info down for him.
who knows maybe his world will be opening up in a few weeks or months, whenever he gets to it. he gave me a (bro)hug before leaving.
...maybe a new family member!

By the way, still on the last topic... maybe I should add that my therapist at the time asked if we talked to the callers about if part of them wanted to live. (Usually they were upset, but weren't on the brink of doing anything.) What we did was very short term, so if you have an ongoing relationship with the person there might be other approaches that bring out more positivity. But again, I think that your being a kind presence is valuable to them. Have a good rest of the night...

where i spent my childhood flooded almost every summer and there was a woman around the way who gathered the ducks (mallards, as i believe are in that picture) up at the onset to put up in her garage until it was safe again. then of course some asshole in government said you can't do that and the following year she didn't. sure enough the following summer there were far fewer ducks than before.
