Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Nah, just homeless. But I had a third interview today for a good paying remote job. The fourth is Friday. Selling most of my records, so, I’ll let you know after I go through them remotely where my friend is storing them.

@DW it's easy when you are 197 years old.

Ah, but Henry you have the curiosity of a teenager.

@WebhamsterH David's only 196 and most of his travels were done on tour so he didn't really notice where they were.

Is Cecilia playing one of her sound objects here or just her comp?

Interviewing: bad enough, but "programming tests" - bleah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
david w:

One trick there. When in doubt, ask them about their shoes.

northguineahills:

Yeah, since Sunday.. I have enough for a hotel for my job interview on Friday, but saving for that. Still waiting on word on my unemployment status (it’s been a week since I applied, and it’s still, “pending”.

Honeybear:

@ngh - if it's NYS (re: benefits) then just hang in there (and be gently persistent) - they're mega-swamped but they do seem to be more or less on top of things
Avatar 6:37pm
Honeybear:

In other states, I've heard the situation is quite messed up (unfortunately)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:37pm
Webhamster Henry:

@βrian: they are little tests where they ignore the fact that you've been programming for 50 years.
Avatar 6:38pm
βrian:

Now, which states have the most messed up benefits systems, I wonder ...?
  6:38pm
northguineahills:

@Honeybear: Unfortunately, I’m in FL these days.
Avatar 6:38pm
Honeybear:

@ngh - ouch - that's one of the worst states from what I hear!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
Webhamster Henry:

OTHO, one of those tests was "Make an app hat uses the New York Times API", and I wrote the unreleaseable "All The News That's Fit To Fake". Didn't get that job, but that app is fun!
Avatar 6:41pm
βrian:

@Webhamster: I thought you meant unit tests.

I've been involved in lots of interview processes. We never considered that kind of testing, as it would imply we were completely clueless.

The cover letter was essential, though. Natural language matters.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm
WR:

Sorry not fully engaged, but listening and enjoying and happy that the musicians are benefitting from bandcamp.
Avatar 6:44pm
Honeybear:

My favorite take-home experience was when they asked me to go scrape some (moderately complicated) website, only to "discover" (with a fair amount of careful, exacting effort mind you) ...
Avatar 6:45pm
Honeybear:

...that their instructions were woefully out of date, and the stuff they "challenged" me to go get for them was no longer present (and likely had not been for quite some time).
Avatar 6:46pm
Honeybear:

"sorry" they said through some low-level HR drone
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:47pm
Webhamster Henry:

A lot of the interviews were with startups with Potemkin village websites.
Avatar 6:47pm
Honeybear:

@βrian - your interviewing policies sound to be the inverse of those in use at so many places I've talked to or worked at
Avatar 6:48pm
Honeybear:

"Why do we mindlessly torture all these people who want to come work with us? Because everyone else is doing it, so that means we have to as well, right?"
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
Webhamster Henry:

@Honeybear - often it's a prerequisite from investors.
Avatar 6:51pm
βrian:

Do they test well or do they think well?
Avatar 6:51pm
Honeybear:

"Natural language skills? We can barely communicate grammatically ourselves. Why should any of that stuff matter to what we do here?"
