Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm YETI BOB:

Mr. Palchepo: I'm a fan of that crazy bass part, too. I listen for it every week.
  3:05pm WFMU listener john:

Is this SMK doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm chresti:

Hello mighty Fabio and strong ones!
  3:06pm Listener Robert:

If I was ever up at 6 AM listening to it, I wasn't awake enough to remember it, so you could convince me Nachum's opening theme was ANYTHING.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Andrew_in_WI:

I think Ken could've done better.
  3:07pm David in London:

Damn you Mariano, I was just trying to work up some kind of Mies van der Rohe related gag but you beat me to the punch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm radioronan:

Station Manager Ken's Giant Man remix..love it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Doobois:

@Listener Robert: He did not, but you should check the archives anyway. And ha!
  3:07pm WFMU listener john:

Andrew_in_Wisconsin are you sure?
  3:08pm Listener Robert:

However, his CLOSING theme was "Ba, ba, black sheep, have you any wool?" in a minor key with different lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm mariano:

Hey David, sorry. Once again I make a total fiasco of things. ¡Un fracaso total!
  3:09pm WFMU listener john:

Oh god this is freaking me out big time

Fabio and the Failsafes! Hello, pals!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm chresti:

Ken's mighty rendition of Giant Man, I had to break the rules at work to comment on it last week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Stanley:

Hi Handy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Fab-I-O! Keep exorcising the aural demons!
  3:11pm David in London:

Outside, the fireworks are exploding ten to the dozen here, so a happy Guy Fawkes night to you all. Right at this particular moment, I feel slightly that blowing up Parliament might not be such a bad idea...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm chresti:

Oooh, Biden just went up a notch in GA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Out demons out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Andrew_in_WI:

@listener john You're right. I think he could've tried harder, not that he could've done better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm YETI BOB:

@D(iL): ""Remember, remember the fifth of November" - I almost forgot!
  3:12pm WFMU listener john:

@David in London I second that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm mariano:

Oh, that's right, David. Happy Guy Fawkes Day to our transatlantic cousins! Maybe I'll watch "V for Vendetta" later.

YETI BOB: the lyrics to "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"? Oh, oh, oh, I see, sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Fabio - yesterday Scott did a few Out Demons Out segments which helped flip a few states. Keep those vibes going!
Avatar 3:14pm Bas NL:

Hi Fabio & Strength through freeformers!
Avatar 3:14pm TDK60:

Hi Fabio. / Hiya David in London. Happy Guy Fawkes Day!
  3:14pm WFMU listener john:

@Andrew i so agree
@David in london just watched v for vendetta the other night, big hugo weaving fan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm mariano:

chresti: Geez, 0.3% between B&T in GA now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Stanley:

I was thinking the same thing earler, David.
Guy Fawkes, the only person to enter Parliament with the right intention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm YETI BOB:

@mariano: That was the 3rd of September, IIRC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm chresti:

Hi mariano! And the rump faced demon wants them to stop counting, OUT demons OUT.
Avatar 3:17pm TDK60:

Out! Demons Out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm mariano:

Though I must say, I'm not completely against Trump stopping the count in states where he's already losing, just to witness what would arguably be the greatest own-goal in the history of politics (I don't really support that, of course, just saying).

YETI BOB: Yeah I know, just being obtuse as usual ;)
Avatar 3:18pm Hubig Pie:

Miles Davis , more soul than a suck fulla muthafuckers
Avatar 3:19pm Fox:

I put small security cameras around my apartment for landlord reasons, and managed to put the one in the kitchen looking out of my Guy Fawkes mask, as a happy irony.
  3:19pm TheMole:

recognized Airto Moreira's percussion work within seconds and said to myself, Ooooh, goodie! A Bitches Brew outtake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Steve from Dunwoody:

Sta Mgr Ken = Strongbad is a hilarious take. Ha!
Avatar 3:19pm Hubig Pie:

sack, dammit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I thought about that too Mariano. "Well, if you say so, chief. No problem here."
Avatar 3:20pm TDK60:

Little anecdote: @ 1984 I was cassette jockeying [sic] in a cool music club late at night, put on this Miles track. Nobody complained.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm YETI BOB:

he doesn't have any legal basis for stopping the counting and it's very unlikely to succeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm mariano:

YETI BOB: Not true. He has invoked the Constitutions "Dibs Provision" and "claimed" those states. Did you sleep through Civics class?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm mariano:

*Constitution's
  3:23pm David in London:

Hubig, as Churchill said, never explain, never apologise. I thought you were just a master of jazz speak with its own unique variant spellings...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm YETI BOB:

Here in Chicago, "dibs" only works if you put broken lawn furniture out in the parking space you shoveled out.
  3:23pm WFMU listener john:

Guys getting enough of this crap on Facebook, not here too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Handy Haversack:

Xibalba (the underworld of the Yucatan) keeps coming up this week for some reason.

Never understood why anyone would celebrate *not* blowing up a parliament.
  3:25pm Kpx:

Dump💩the Trump🎺! .... I text that one to a bud yesterday, then I saw Heidee use the trumpet emoji on PTWAH and thought great minds think alike. HI Heidee, if you're 👀ing at this chat?. Hey Fabio and fellow failures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm PaulRobeson1920:

"Out, demons, out!"- Tuli & Ed & I
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm YETI BOB:

@HH: Well, the old Reichstag Fire didn't turn out too great, did it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Fabio:

NO MOER POLITICS HERE PLEASE!
Avatar 3:26pm TDK60:

I wonder if any remaining Fugs know their and Allen Ginsberg's "Out demons out! chant was revived this week, starting on the Frow Show Monday Night. I think Ed Sanders is still with us. Tuli Kupferberg is gone.
  3:26pm WFMU listener john:

@Fabio thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm PaulRobeson1920:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm coelacanth∅:

hey Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Jason from Houston:

I forgot about that Finnish version. Hahaha...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm PaulRobeson1920:

That was Ken? I really enjoyed that opening hahaahaha
  3:37pm David in London:

Miles scoops all the credit, but Teo Macero did an enormous shift piecing tracks together with months of painstaking work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm chresti:

Hi Kpx, I must of been commenting from my workplace in Griffith Park if it was on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
Avatar 3:40pm Heidee:

This electric accordeon is fantastic. Reminds me of the Finnish artist Kimmo Pohjonen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm mrdonutsu:

@D.I.L. Yes, what Teo did is incredible. Perhaps moreso on Big Fun even than on Bitches Brew.E.g. "Go Ahead John".
Avatar 3:44pm Hubig Pie:

I doubled down on stupid today, that fear quote belongs to FDR. I'll show myself out the door now.
Avatar 3:44pm Heidee:

A happy hello to all my chatting chums!
Hi David, YB, Ken, Stanley, mariano, Handy and all!
  3:44pm David in London:

mrdonutsu, I mean I LOVE Miles, but Teo is a seriously un(der)sung hero.
Howdy Heidee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm mariano:

Hey there Heidee, coela. Hubig: have you forgotten the overarching theme of this show? Welcome to The Tribe, brother.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Andrew_in_WI:

@David It always surprises people how much of Miles is pieced together. Same exact solo on Jack Johnson as Silent Way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Handy Haversack:

Failure flies here, Hubig. Don't even sweat.
  3:49pm David in London:

Hubig, it’s my fault. All those jellied eels have addled your brain.
  3:49pm Kpx:

@Chresti: Oh, I guess the reason why I asked what's because I have a pension to see other words in people's names, or at least a close similarity to other words. then I tried to rearrange them or add on to them. take your name for example I see Chresti Toothpaste, you know/Crest Toothpaste.
Avatar 3:50pm βrian:

There are failure lies in the kitchen.
I can hear 'em there buzzin'
Avatar 3:50pm wizard frog:

Oh MAN! Just noticed the intro - must check this show on the archive FOR SURE!
Avatar 3:50pm Hubig Pie:

Thnx, mariano, David and Handy. I think I'll go for a therapeutic bike ride and just do some direct listening thru the beauty of wireless earbuds
Avatar 3:51pm βrian:

Damn.
"failure flies"
Avatar 3:53pm Heidee:

Hi kpx!
  3:54pm Kpx:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm chresti:

Haha chresti toothpaste, I can hear it, Kpx.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Handy Haversack:

See, βrian? It's the lifeblood of the industry!
Avatar 3:57pm Heidee:

Oh kpx, so sorry I 👀 your lovely post so late, thanks for pointing out. I am wondering how to extend my skills to embed emojis into my messages. I can only copy&paste them, how do you do it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Stanley:

Hi-ho Heidee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm brainiac:

Sorry I'm late to the party. So, are we talking politics today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Ike:

WFMU: Is It Supposed to Sound Like That, or Is It a Streaming Error?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm chresti:

Heidi, if you right-click the curser in the comment box, a list of options appears, at the top is emojis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm chresti:

💥💥💥💥
  4:02pm Kpx:

@Heidee: no apologies necessary, the only reason why I pointed that out to you was just because how we both happened to use the trumpet emoji for are soon-to-be ex-president.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Carmichael:

@brainiac, ix-nay on the olicts-pay.
Avatar 4:03pm Heidee:

ooh Chresti that sounds really pro - but my poor laptop doesn 't seem to give me emoji options... but good to know what can be possible
@kpx, yes please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm mariano:

Cool! 🤟🤟
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm PaulRobeson1920:

Gotta LoVe WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Carmichael:

What browser are you using, chresti?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm brainiac:

Yeah, on Firefox I don't have the emoji option. Probably for the best.
Avatar 4:06pm Heidee:

🎉🎉🎉 OH YESSS 🎉🎉🎉 GOT IT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm PaulRobeson1920:

The internet is like Magic
  4:06pm Kpx:

@brainiac: Xnay on the politicsay, Fabio has put the block on that subject.
  4:08pm David in London:

Hello brainiacal one.
  4:08pm Andres:

Hey Fabio and Co.! Is Aaron Rodgers a less divisive subject of conversation?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm brainiac:

Hey there David! Have you got the ynamite-day all ready to go tonight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm chresti:

Bing/chrome browser on a windows laptop, I only discovered this last week or so.
  4:10pm kpx:

dang it Carmichael, you beat me to the ixnay reference. plus you got it right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Handy Haversack:

I was just thinking the same thing, brainiac.

While also reading up on how to actually make Firefox respect privacy. Hoo.

Also: hi.
  4:11pm Rick near Allentown:

Thank you, Fabio, for putting the kibosh on P-word talk. I come to FMU to fill my head with good stuff...
  4:11pm David in London:

Brainiac, yes indeed. Gunpowder, treason and plot are in full effect this end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm brainiac:

I feel like blowing something other than my liver up tonight.
Avatar 4:12pm chocolate monk:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm PaulRobeson1920:

“As the cold was making him tremble, the student thought how during the times of Rurik, Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great, there must have been this same fierce poverty and hunger, these same leaking thatched roofs, the same ignorance and anxiety, the same emptiness all around, the gloom and the feeling of oppression. All these very horrors were, are and will be...another thousand years would pass, yet life would still not be any better. He wanted to go home...”
Avatar 4:13pm chocolate monk:

Morricone on trumpet??
  4:14pm David in London:

This is great. Almost a little Third Ear Band-y.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm brainiac:

@Handy: a big delayed hello to you. My browser is lagging and so am I.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm brainiac:

Can't understand it. Pretty sure I have fewer than 50 tabs open.
  4:18pm kpx:

and that's another thing, I wanted to use the word kibosh in my text to brainiac but I kept on pronouncing it wrong.
Avatar 4:20pm Honeybear:

the effect of excessive numbers of open tabs on brower performance (especially when they impede its true purpose: that is, to enjoy WFMU streams and archives) is very similar to the effect of politics on the mind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm brainiac:

It's cool, kpx. This is a judgement free zone.
  4:20pm Miss G:

Not politics, but Fabio mentioned at Halloween time that Vincent Price in "Theater of Blood" is great. So I watched it this week, and, as I remembered from watching on afternoon TV, it was great. And satisfying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Handy Haversack:

I feel you, brainiac. My lag has something to say, too.

Sigh. Getting dark already.
  4:22pm ZeeBee:

I’m ambling through an entirely vacant park very stoned with a big bottle of water. This is the perfect sound scape accompaniment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm brainiac:

I'd like to have Giuliano Lombardo play my Birthday/New Year's Eve party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Handy Haversack:

I think since soon it's going to be too dark to see the birds that I'll mix up a couple of Black Feathers. I have resisted long enough.
  4:24pm David in London:

Handy, I still haven’t made the time adjustment yet. I keep looking outside and thinking, ‘Mmmm, very dark now, must be bedtime’, only to find it’s still only 8.10pm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm mariano:

My mom purposely used to say "put the calabash" on something instead of "kibosh" just to annoy me. One of many deep traumas I carry.

Brainiac. Can I come along?
Avatar 4:28pm dougseidel:

very nice set of music - thanks

@David: No party would be complete without you.
Avatar 4:29pm Heidee:

Fabio, I am really enjoying this music.
Avatar 4:29pm Honeybear:

meanwhile, music (especially the way WFMU serves it up) helps me heal from the damages caused by years of caring too much about politics, bad work experiences (which are a different form of politics), etc. sometimes I feel like I have years of healing left to do (and that's totally fine).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm chresti:

mariano, my parents were good at mangling words, like reggae, my dad would say "rah-GAY"
Avatar 4:30pm Honeybear:

what we're hearing now being a perfect example

Honeybear, I can relate. You will heal because you feel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm mariano:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm BadBob:

"Crowns" - how my dad pronounced crayons
Avatar 4:33pm dougseidel:

my Grampa pronounced butt "tuckus"
  4:34pm kpx:

@Mariano: I kept trying to pronounce kibosh as Carbash. because I always thought that's the way I heard it. but that's not the only word I've heard incorrectly throughout my life. but one by one I'm slowly but surely learning the correct pronunciations.
Avatar 4:35pm Heidee:

Fabio, your pronouncing Italian makes me high.

I heard someone pronounce "jaguar" like "jagwire" in a YT video (a video on historical linguistics no less). Never heard that one before.

kpx: There were several words I mispronounced as a kid/teen because I'd only ever seen them in writing and sometimes I jumbled some letters. "Awry" I thought was "AW-ree," "treatise" I thought was "TREAT-see," and many other failures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm LeBongWizard:

Everyone just looked at their phones
Avatar 4:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Have never, ever had a mobile phone set to make sounds when calls or texts come in. Total silence since the first mobile ever.

STOP IT! "Who Killed Teddy Bear" sounds GREAT. Juliette Prowse!!!! 1965

Also refuse to acknowledge the Siri thing. Too much talking in this world as it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Ike:

@RTD, agreed, I don't need that horrible robot voice digging a freaky-ass uncanny valley in my personal sound-arena!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm brainiac:

I was already working as a proofreader at a nation-wide magazine before I learned the word "temperature" has 4 syllables.

4? Tem-puh-cher.

David - the explosions here have quietened down, Seems we have a cease fire. How's London?

This is mesmerizing.

Huh, This show really is strength through failure. always learning from our failures no matter how old we get.
Avatar 4:47pm Jeff Moore:

@Rev: Right there with you. I am completely uninterested in shouting at my appliances.

I want some interface I can work with my physical fingers, and I refuse to ask "Alexa" to play me some music or request that "Siri" find me the incorrectly-mapped route someplace or shout "Hey Google!" at the toaster.

If a gizmo has been re-engineered to prioritize artificial unintelligence interfaces to the detriment of quick, easy, straightforward conventional controls... I'll shop for somebody else's gizmo.

I took the train to St Petersburg last summer, and listened to the Stalker soundtrack on my headphones. Watching the forests and the train tracks and power lines go by I had something of a transcendent moment.

Avatar 5:01pm Honeybear:

@TDK60 apparently yes, and both ways (price-free and ad-free). For that the selections are "back-market" ("pirated" perhaps in some cases - but mostly stuff the larger distribution channels don't see interested in making available) and on a fixed schedule

@RTD, I hear there's a few places we're (perhaps foolishly) allowed in, but I am too scared to get on a plane! All that recycled air, or is it all filtered? IDK, travel overall doesn't seem smart in general right now.

On the plane to Italy last year we were seated in front of a ill-bread family who shouted incessantly across the isle to each other, "Dad's havin' th' PASH-tuh, Gramma, GRAMMA ARE YOU HAVIN' th' PASH-TUH?"

Then later,

"GRAMMA, HOW DO YOU LIKE TH' PASH-TUH?
  5:04pm Miss G:

Ike, a friend has had to travel on planes. The air is recycled much more than you might think. It is actually better than some other public places. I was surprised, I used to wear an ionic device on trans-Atlantic flights.

  5:09pm David in London:

Connery was never better than in Sidney Lumet’s The Offence. Man, that is a dark, powerhouse of a film. Still really uncomfortable to watch, but utterly compelling. My mum told me that when she and my dad went to see it in the early 70s, everyone filed out in complete silence. Amazing electronic score by Harrison Birtwhistle, too.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest.
Avatar 5:10pm Honeybear:

"they say" riding the subway in NYC is fine, too - but that just doesn't fly, on first principles. Maybe it isn't high-risk - but it definitely isn't low-risk
  5:11pm toast:

Hey David, thanks forthe reco. Sounds good.
  5:11pm Miss G:

kpx, you are remembering that Faye Dunaway was blackballed in Hollywood after her performance as Joan Crawford in the adopted-daughter-penned biopic, "Mommie Dearest." Joan was an abused person who became a child abuser. Lots to unpack in her life. GREAT recent biopic: "Feud" by Ryan Murphy (sorry) Bette Davis and Joan C. in "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? "
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Fabio:

@David: Also, "The Hill"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm brainiac:

I really liked Stanley Tucci as Jack Warner in Feud.
  5:16pm WM:

I've been trying to catch up with John Boorman's Zardoz for a long time. Sounds like a very nutty project. I think that was the first film Sean Connery made after he decided to leave the James Bond franchise. Cinematography by Goeffrey Unsworth who shot Kubrick's 2001.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Handy Haversack:
