In with a zing, it's Mary Wing.
Hello Groovers.
Avatar 12:02pm Really Lisa:

Hello Mary, David, all Whatevers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Mary, 100%ers
  12:07pm KWilde:

Heh.
Avatar 12:08pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hey all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Ike:

Yep, this is about right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Andrew_in_WI:

I'm here representing the state of Wisconsin, and I'm officially calling it for Biden.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Hi, Mary. Hang in there, everyone! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm David (in London):

Hey Lisa, Coela, KWilde, Sylvia, Ike, Andrew, S&M&S, Ken, Stanloid.
Avatar 12:16pm Mary Wing:

Hello David, Lisa, coelacanth, KWilde, Sylvia, Ike, Andrew, S&M&S, Ken, and Stanley! Today's show is rather mellow, I recorded it on Sunday and didn't want to guess what the election results were.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm David (in London):

Sylvia / S&M&S - Liked that Starry Messenger track very much indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Handy Haversack:

Mary and all the Winged Ones! Hello. Sorry I'm late.
Avatar 12:19pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@David Thank you!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Thank you @David!
Avatar 12:20pm Hubig Pie:

The guessing continues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm David (in London):

Sylvia / S&M&S - I'm tempted to suggest an old-fashioned 7in split single at some stage (given that we seem to end up on the same shows / compilations as it is).

Hey Hubig.
Avatar 12:22pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Handy and Hubig! I went to look at Ken's playlist, and all the loading gifs slowed down my music stream, heh. I saw the talking egg, though, so my day is automatically better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey there! poppin' in between meetings!
Avatar 12:25pm Hubig Pie:

David, 'ello me china
Avatar 12:25pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Phillippe! Zoom in the room!
Avatar 12:26pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@David that sounds good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm David (in London):

Hubig, blimey you've mastered that perfectly! Now, I think, you are ready to go 'next level' and try eating some jellied eels.

Phillippe, hello mate.
Avatar 12:27pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

can't comment much, I had an eye exam earlier, my sight is still all blurry!
Avatar 12:30pm Hubig Pie:

Ooo.... Jellied eels not for me, maybe just a wee dram of Spotted Dick
Avatar 12:32pm Mary Wing:

Was the purpose of jellied eel to make something already gross to eat even grosser? I am confused.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

@David - that sounds good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Andrew_in_WI:

I like eel when I get sushi... never had them jellied
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Handy Haversack:

Speaking of friends, I found a nice heavy dinner plate that someone had thrown away while walking home yesterday. Score!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Congratulations, Handy. You're now in possession of the murder weapon.
Avatar 12:42pm Mary Wing:

Speaking of plates, I've been watching YouTube videos of people who go mudlarking (which is looking for things in riverbeds and fields without a metal detector, I guess) and the old crockery and glass they find is pretty amazing.
Avatar 12:43pm Mary Wing:

Death By Dishware, my new virtual band name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Andrew_in_WI:

My LP of Nommos is counterfeit. But, to be fair, it was purchased before being reissued.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Michael 98145:

what day is it? are we still here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Ike:

Great selection of music for a day of being completely exhausted after being almost totally unable to sleep all night! Amazing that you recorded this earlier. You totally called the mood.
  12:45pm rw:

Good morning! The world is full of idiots. Glad I have you guys. Heading out to work. Thanks in advance Mary Wing!!!
Avatar 12:46pm Mary Wing:

Good morning Michael 98145 and rw! We are here, now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Michael 98145:

ah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Michael 98145:

good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Handy Haversack:

Revenge is a dish best served by someone on Huron St., apparently, Ken!

Mary, we pull a pretty amazing assortment of things out of the East River and Newtown Creek. Some really nice old bricks with the brickmakers' logos in them. Lots of safety helmets! Really cool beach glass sometimes. And ... weirder things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm fred:

Good afternoon Mary and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Handy Haversack:

(My brain keeps wanting to turn this Yamaneko song into Christy Moore's version of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Andrew_in_WI:

@Handy Mash-up?
Avatar 12:48pm Mary Wing:

Salut, fred! Long time, no see!
Avatar 12:49pm Mary Wing:

Heh, Handy, you will marvel at the incongruous segue coming next. I didn't hear "The First Time.." in this song, but I did hear something else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Handy Haversack:

I'll call Bill McClintock, @Andrew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Handy Haversack:

Ha, nice, Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm fred:

I'm back to being stuck home because of the new lockdown. Only good thing about that is that I can listen to the station most of the day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Andrew_in_WI:

I live on a river downstream from an old dump. Old bottles and cookware are my most common finds. Once I pulled a bowling ball out of the river.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm doctorjazz:

Hi Mary!
Avatar 12:57pm Mary Wing:

Hi there doctorjazz!

I could get addicted to scavenging with almost no effort, heh. But where would I put all of it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Michael 98145:

catch and release?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Handy Haversack:

Did you get the spare, Andrew?
Avatar 12:59pm Mary Wing:

Michael, that goes against the very fibre of my being, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Handy Haversack:

Huzzah! Hell was raised!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm David (in London):

Sorry, had a call there. The jellied eel is not for the faint-hearted Mary. In the old East End, one had it with pie, mashed potato and 'liqour', a type of parsley sauce. When you're next in London I'll take you out for some... Or not as the case may be!
  1:06pm rw:

It’s like the past the present and the future all rolled up in one here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Stanley:

No, no, don't do it Mary. Jellied eel is disgusting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm David (in London):

Sylvia / S&M&S - It might be fun, mightn't it? A proper 7in single! Put the suggestion into your mental filing cabinet for discussion at a later date...
Avatar 1:07pm Mary Wing:

Heh, I will wait with a wildly beating heart for that meal, David! Parsley sauce? Who thinks up these things??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

@david - for sure! We never do vinyl because our records are so looooooong ("Deux Anges" - out a week from Friday - is 30 tracks across two discs weighing in around 2 1/2 hrs!) but... food for thought!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Michael 98145:

the things i learn here! www.thespruceeats.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I haven't checked recently, but I presume the constitution says that in the unlikely event of the electoral votes being tied, the election will be determined by a 100-yard dash or a sword fight or at least a bloody duel of some sort. Throwing heavy dinner plates, for example.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm David (in London):

S&M&S - Ha ha, that's another trait we share then. Our new 'single' is 20 minutes long on its own. Seriously though, I think we're similar enough, yet different enough, to make a combined piece quite an appealing prospect. Like I say, stash that away for a future conversation when the world is at least a little bit more 'normal' again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Michael 98145:

And Nina!
  1:25pm Mark R:

This was a great doc if you haven't seen it. Nina actually lived upstate next door to Betty Shabazz for a while in the 70s, and they grew quite close.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Carmichael:

Heya Mary, Nina and all others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Handy Haversack:

Ken, to think my new plate might take its place in the annals of this great democracy alongside hanging chads and Tammany Hall!

DiL&S&M&S -- I would definitely get the CD single or even cassingle!

Just an unrelated reminder to all: Bandcamp Friday is this week! Even some of our favorite commentors might have material available for purchase on that fine artist-first platform.
Avatar 1:28pm Mary Wing:

Hello Mark R. and Carmichael! I keep meaning to watch the Nina doc; maybe this weekend I can sit and watch it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Phillippe Bastille:

I'm back! Dinner plates, jellied eel, bowling balls... I miss all the good stuff! Oh, and the music and pleasure of all your company as well -- almost forgot about that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Handy Haversack:

I'm thinking of "adrop" as akin to "asea" or "a-go-go."

Hey, Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm David (in London):

Hey Carmichael.
Good reminder there Handy.
And I saved you some jellied eels Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Carmichael:

Aloha, David.
Avatar 1:34pm Mary Wing:

Jellied Eels Adrop?
  1:34pm Mark R:

I was introduced to Bardo Pond by WFMU--such a fascinating musician! I could understand how he might not be everybody's cup of tea, but I dig his wild and wooly sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm David (in London):

Jellied eels are what are found at the bottom of the Bardo Pond.
This is a very cool piece.
Avatar 1:36pm Mary Wing:

How are you and Debbie holding up, Mark? Not sure if I saw you at the last virtual staff meeting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I remember how Chris M used to play Bardo Pond on his shows.
Avatar 1:49pm Mary Wing:

Heh. Chris M. also played the new My Bloody Valentine album in its entirely the day it was released back in 2013. Like, he got the download, and played it on air immediately.
Avatar 1:50pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

love this Bardo Pond
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Andrew_in_WI:

Does this count as a 3OAK? Three of adrop?
1:50pm chresti in tennis booth, Griffith Park:

hI Mary and wingdingers! Listening..
Avatar 1:52pm Hubig Pie:

Mr Pond has a way with fuzzy spaced out psychedelia.
The sound of Psychedelphia
Avatar 1:52pm Mary Wing:

Ummm, no, Andrew, but nice try!

Good Wednesday morning, Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Phillippe Bastille:

David, can you put some of those jellied eels in the package of Earle Grey Handy is sending me? Soon if you can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm coelacanth∅:

weird how people pretend bardo pond is a he
Avatar 1:57pm Mary Wing:

What, like pretending Jandek is a he?
Avatar 1:57pm Hubig Pie:

I was just tryin to be clever, Mr Canth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm coelacanth∅:

Hubig i thought *you* were!
Avatar 1:59pm Hubig Pie:

😁
Avatar 1:59pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@David yes, I put the idea in my mental filing cabinet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm coelacanth∅:

Mary that's the other way around!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm coelacanth∅:

(he, pretending he's an organisation, or band)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Stanley:

Brigitte Bardo Pond?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Handy Haversack:

With ponds, you mostly have to turn 'em over to check.

Mary, spodiodi pointed out to me that when I was computerless a month or so back, I missed a 3OAK with "Mercy Seat"! I was crushed. I have not gone back to listen yet, but as the sting of missing it live fades, I'll check it out.
Avatar 2:01pm Mary Wing:

It was a good one, Handy! Lots of cool versions!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm David (in London):

Mary, you mean 'A representative of Corwood Industries'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm coelacanth∅:

Handy haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm coelacanth∅:

hey David (did i say hi already?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm coelacanth∅:

Stanley ha! i'd go see her
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Michael 98145:

( bandcamp memo to self: bipolarexplorer.bandcamp.com... )
  2:07pm Mark R:

We're good, Mary, I think I was at the last one, but maybe I missed one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Handy Haversack:

You can't just copy my memos, Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm David (in London):

Coela, can't remember, but hi again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Michael 98145:

heh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm YETI BOB:

Hi Wingers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Handy Haversack:

Yeti Bob, hey there!
Avatar 2:13pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Bob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm David (in London):

The Count arrives! Hello Yeti Bob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm YETI BOB:

Hey David. I just got back from a little errand, Mrs Yeti got a flat tire on her bike and I went out with our van to rescue her. Nice to have things to think about other than the Big Thing.
Oh, and now it's Julian Cope, nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm David (in London):

This is a little painful, for the simple reason that Julian Cope was the last gig I went to before lockdown. Sigh.
Avatar 2:17pm Mary Wing:

You saw Copey recently, David? I didn't know he was still performing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm YETI BOB:

Do tell us a bit about the show, David! Was it with a band? Did he lecture about druidic rock formations?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Handy Haversack:

Or formations of druidic rock?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Phillippe Bastille:

Man, listening with only half an ear, I was thinking damn, that Helen Reddy REALLY made that cover her own...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Handy Haversack:

Not being the loving kind *is* the old-fashioned way, Phillippe!
Avatar 2:21pm Hubig Pie:

Never go onna bike ride without tire irons, a spare tube and Co2 canisters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm David (in London):

Cope was on blistering form. It was just him and his acoustic guitar. He did material old and new, from some old Teardrop classics right up to things he said he'd recently just finished writing. He was wearing his Luftwaffe style peaked cap, outsized Victorian explorer shorts and huge combat boots. And, of course, the between-songs chat was solid gold. As was his rendition of a track about neolithic wisdom, 'They Were All on Drugs'. I took my 16-year old son (whom you guys 'met' last Friday) and he was blown away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Phillippe Bastille:

I've got 7 great years of marriage under my belt to dispute that Handy! They would be the first two, the 11th, the 19th, the 22nd, 25th, and the 28th, The other 26, meh, not so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Stanley:

Hi David - What, I missed 'meeting' your son?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Phillippe Bastille:

Yeah, I missed that meet too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm YETI BOB:

@D(iL): Wow, I'm glad you and Solo were able to catch that. I've been a fan of Julian since "Peggy Suicide", of course I'm not surprised you like him too :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Phillippe Bastille:

David, you need to start sending invitations and announcements out, dude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Stanley:

Just hearing Joni's voice makes me all emotional.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Stanley:

What a nice song that was.
Thanks Mary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Handy Haversack:

Meeting Solo was a highlight last week! Kid's a Bryce fan. Clearly raised right!

Love Julian Cope too. And yeah, that Joni song. Oof. I'm not crying, YOU'RE the one who's crying!
Avatar 2:33pm Hubig Pie:

But don't shine on that deadbeat kid that lives next door. He's 30years old and still spongin'off ma
Avatar 2:34pm Mary Wing:

Joni's birthday is on Saturday the 7th; forgot to mention that at the mic break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm David (in London):

Stanley / Phillippe - Well, he's a massive fan of Bryce's Show, so he popped up there on Friday unexpectedly. He was thrilled to be greeted so warmly, so he may appear again.

Yeti Bob - Yeah, I've always loved him. I first saw him in 1984, at the infamous gig in which he was the highest a man has ever been on LSD and he tried to kill himself on stage. Man, that was quite an evening. I had his blood on my shirt when I went home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Stanley:

Had Mary played it during the Hellraiser I would have coughed up a pledge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm coelacanth∅:

Phillippe haha!
. . . so it was worth it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Phillippe Bastille:

@DiL ah, I will have to tune in. I've been spoending my Friday afternoons in Uncle Michael land
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Phillippe Bastille:

@coel jury's still out...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm coelacanth∅:

i guess i'm gonna have to watch my mouth on Bryce's show from now on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm coelacanth∅:

i've known the name Julian Cope for decades now and shall admit i barely know his work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm David (in London):

Coela - He's a teenage schoolboy in South London. Profanity is a way of life there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm YETI BOB:

coelacanth∅: in addition to being a pretty great musician, he's written some interesting books. One called "Krautrocksampler" that was partly responsible for the rebirth of interest in the genre, and another about Stonehenge and other antiquarian Engish stuff. And a few other books, autobiography, etc. He's a fascinating character. Plus he wrote a song called "Out Of My Mind On Dope And Speed".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Handy Haversack:

What's not to love?
  2:42pm northguineahills:

Have barely slept, just drove back to Orlando from Gainesville to vote. Listening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm coelacanth∅:

i have a feeling that in most cases abstaining from "vulgar" language around minors is solely for the comfort of the adults present!
Avatar 2:43pm Mary Wing:

You are a righteous dude, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Yeti. i'm sitting on a full cart of books right now, waiting for them to send me a special offer of some kind. i'll look into that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm YETI BOB:

Holy moly - I just looked and Krautrocksampler is out of print and copies are selling online for upwards of $300. I used to have that book, dammit. (No idea what happened to my copy!)
  2:48pm northguineahills:

At least the amendment to raise the minimum wage from $7.45 to $15 w/ in four years passed.
  2:49pm northguineahills:

(FL is very bi-polar)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm YETI BOB:

((there does seem to be a PDF available online, i won't post the link but it's not hard to find))
Avatar 2:49pm Mary Wing:

Jaysus, that's a lot of cash for a book. I think I might have it, although I can't remember now if I borrowed it from a friend and then returned it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Stanley:

I've been listening for twelve hours non-stop to take my mind off things. Hardly got any work done but it's been a pleasure. The music, the chat and most of all, the feeling of solidarity with yooz all. Forgive me if I slip out behind the curtain, so Ill say thanks and good bye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm coelacanth∅:

yes Yeti i just looked. "temporarily unavailable".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Jeff Golick:

Didn't Cope also do a Japrocksampler?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Handy Haversack:

Mary, because it's so ridiculous, I took a picture of my "workspace" this afternoon, with your playlist front and center: wfmu.org...

Election Day coincided with garbage collection day, so we have rather a backlog of pumpkins around here ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm coelacanth∅:

(..."receive fewer than 1 copy every 6 months")

Jeff - Yeah, and it was a doozy, too, I reckon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm YETI BOB:

@Jeff: Yup and a Detroit version too IIRC. And this book I just found: "Copendium - An Expedition into the Rock&Roll Underworld" - scary looking cover, black with gothy typography. It came out in 2012, I missed it completely.

Thanks again, Mary W
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm YETI BOB:

I guess - as the title suggests - it's just a collection of his record reviews, but probably still worth reading.
Avatar 2:55pm Mary Wing:

I remember when Stan played this on his show, and said something along the lines of that it sounded like the end of a party, when everyone is tired but doesn't want to go home yet, so they start singing this song. That's how I feel, like the party is over but I am not ready to go home so let's do one last song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm spodiodi:

hi Mary! sorry i missed everything. hope you have a good week! just wanted to say hi

Hey spod!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm coelacanth∅:

anyone here have any suggestions for good starting points for books of Andrew K Dick, Hunter S Thompson or William Burroughs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm spodiodi:

:) thanks for all the Whatever, Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm YETI BOB:

@C∅: For Burroughs, I'd say "Junkie", "Queer", and "Exterminator!" (short stories)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm coelacanth∅:

(for the record i thought "on the road" was shit! ...so, not along those lines!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm YETI BOB:

For HST, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" is really the only one you need to read IMO. And I don't know Andrew Dick. Do you mean Philip?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Phillippe Bastille:

Bye Mary, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Yeti, i think someone suggested queer to me once
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm YETI BOB:

For Philip K Dick I love "A Scanner Darkly" and "Flow My Tears the Policeman Said". I'm sure I'm missing a bunch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm coelacanth∅:

...oh, yeah, Phillip!
Avatar 2:59pm Mary Wing:
