Be shaken. Be stirred. A whimsical wham-bam of exotic enchantments, sleazy oddities, pop fancies, and swingin’ slingers broadcast from Ridgewood, NYC’s very own Shangri-Lounge. Best served chilled, garnished with signature swizzle schtick.

Avatar 6:17pm Domenic:

Les Petites Souris, wow a lovely obscurity. Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

hey Rich! coelacanth∅! StringOFperils! Domenic! and digging this crazy set, shangri-lounge!!!!
Avatar 6:18pm shangri-lounge:

it was just what i needed today!
Avatar 6:21pm Domenic:

This Baja is classic but I 1st hear it done by "the Blue Hawaiians" and its a fave..
Avatar 6:25pm shangri-lounge:

Ah, I have't heard that one. Gotta check that out! They're a newer band, right?
Avatar 6:27pm Domenic:

About 20 years old now!
Avatar 6:28pm shangri-lounge:

Lol, yeah "newer."
Avatar 6:29pm Mr Fab:

Hey all! Yes, used to see The Blue Hawaiians at Hollywood’s late great tiki bar The Lava Lounge.
Avatar 6:29pm StringOFperils:

The Blue Hawaiians did some of the music for Sponge Bob Square Pants.
Avatar 6:29pm shangri-lounge:

The Lava Lounge.
Avatar 6:29pm shangri-lounge:

Did they also have a Xmas album? I feel like that seems right.
Avatar 6:30pm StringOFperils:

WIKI sez Christmas On Big Island in 1995
Avatar 6:30pm Mr Fab:

They did! Cool stuff. One of the first things we ever ordered off Amazon, when that was a new novelty.
Avatar 6:31pm shangri-lounge:

Niiice. Yes, I think I've maybe included them on a Spotify playlist, previously.
Avatar 6:31pm shangri-lounge:

Mr Fab, I'm jealous of your tiki bar travels. Mine are very limited being based in NYC.
Avatar 6:32pm Mr Fab:

Serve goes Johnny Cash?!
Avatar 6:34pm Mr Fab:

I meant “Serge.”
Avatar 6:35pm Mr Fab:

Would love to take you (all) on a tiki bar crawl one day. There are even three tiki joints with in a few miles of my Van Nuys crib.
Avatar 6:35pm Martinibomb:

Dj Shangri-lounge !
Avatar 6:36pm shangri-lounge:

Sheena's should rent a magic bus, and we can do shows from the road, stopping at various tiki bars along the way, broadcasting from those too.
Avatar 6:36pm shangri-lounge:

~*in dreams*~
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm coelacanth∅:

Pete Drake, but i don't hear any pedal steel in here (...?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Rich in Washington:

@Martinibomb: Is the tiki bar on Interstate, The Alibi Room still around that you know of? Or did covid and the Boojie hipster occupation kill it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Rich in Washington:

I used to run things to and from the print shop across the street and stop there for 'lunch'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Rich in Washington:

Selda!
Avatar 6:39pm Martinibomb:

The Alibi is up and running or was.. I've seen people there. They set up an outdoor section. BUT - they never had a great outdoor space tho. I think they should take over the car lot on the other side - dunno why they aren't
Avatar 6:40pm Martinibomb:

My roommate's band Galaxy Trio played there in the 90s before Karaoke killed the Alibi for DJs and Bands. That was a KILLER show. I have photos
Avatar 6:44pm shangri-lounge:

the tiki bar resurgence -especially here- is just a bunch of tropical cocktail bars. generally speaking. abe's pagoda bar in Bushwick is a very good exception to that rule, I would say.
Avatar 6:45pm shangri-lounge:

But I wanna travel to some OG spots. Maybe in the next couple of years. I hope!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Rich in Washington:

I haven't been in there in over a decade, but I thought The Alibi had a wonderful tiki atmosphere, at least decor-wise.
Avatar 6:46pm shangri-lounge:

there is this website. from this guy. tiki with ray. www.tikiwithray.com
Avatar 6:47pm shangri-lounge:

and i live vicariously through him. and his home bar spotlights. but i wish he'd wear a mask a bit more...
Avatar 6:52pm Martinibomb:

Hale Pele is the one I'm worried will close. The Alibi looks cool etc.. and they have karaoke plus it can get wild in there. BUT the drinks SUCK and terrible food. Hale Pele on the other hand... voted best tiki drinks in the USA and I agree. Super good! And the food is by this Hawaiian guy that used to have a cart in my hood. Super good! ANd they have a volcano that goes off every :30min. I love it.
Avatar 6:53pm Martinibomb:

That's where I like to go for special occasions etc.. etc..
Avatar 6:53pm shangri-lounge:

This is making me too jelly. Keep all your favs to yourself. (Jk, please continue to share.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm coelacanth∅:

the reasonable solution is to give me all of of jeff bozo's "net worth", and he can have mine. then i will keep these places afloat until they become profitable again.
i'll start a petition.
Avatar 6:56pm shangri-lounge:

lol, that's a perfect solution, imo.
Avatar 7:00pm Domenic:

Roy Orbison, nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm coelacanth∅:

beautiful
Avatar 7:03pm Mr Fab:

I'm am taking note of these madmen.
Avatar 7:08pm Mr Fab:

Abe's Pagoda, ha, now I get it.

Do you know that there are no pictures in existence of a young Abe Vigoda? I actually tried to find one. He was born old. That's the only explanation.
Avatar 7:11pm Mr Fab:

weird hearing the non-remixed version of this.

Written by the recently-deceased Mac Davis.
Avatar 7:12pm shangri-lounge:

lol, yeah abe's pagoda seems like a joke you would like, actually.
Avatar 7:25pm Mailman Tom:

My mother's first name was Magda
Avatar 7:27pm Mr Fab:

What nationality is Magda?
Avatar 7:28pm shangri-lounge:

The Magda from the previous track is Egyptian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm WR:

Hi folks, Latecomer, will use archive listen of show from the start to keep me away from temptation of news noise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, Sheena's been my refuge all day at work. So tempting to roll the log over and see what's crawling around, but great shows like this one are keeping me happily distracted.
Avatar 7:31pm Mailman Tom:

Hungarian
Avatar 7:32pm shangri-lounge:

Yeah, I've not looked at any news from today. I've cast my vote, so now I'm just waiting...
Avatar 7:33pm Martinibomb:

yeh I am listening to nothing but Sheena - except I did skip part of Dons show when he started playing political samples.
Avatar 7:33pm shangri-lounge:

Lol
Avatar 7:34pm shangri-lounge:

yeah, don's shows have a way of putting a person on edge. but i think he'd proud of that. lol.
Avatar 7:34pm shangri-lounge:

he'd be*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Rich in Washington:

Uneasy Listening. We need that too.
Avatar 7:35pm shangri-lounge:

Haha, that would be great as a hashtag. i'll log that in my memory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Rich in Washington:

but sometimes in the interest of distress tolerance, there are some things to avoid.
Avatar 7:36pm Martinibomb:

I would usually pay attention to an election but... it just didn't seem useful this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Rich in Washington:

trying to decide to swing by a store on the way home and stock up on booze or not. Or pie. Maybe a couple of pies.
Avatar 7:37pm shangri-lounge:

boozy pies
Avatar 7:38pm Martinibomb:

Brandy Alexander Pie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Rich in Washington:

Now whenever I hear Cal Tjader, I think of the Burton film Big Eyes because there's a scene where he's supposedly playing in a Jazz club.
Avatar 7:38pm shangri-lounge:

luckily, the bodegas lies right outside our apt door should an emergency strike.
Avatar 7:38pm shangri-lounge:

bodega*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Rich in Washington:

Whiskey Pie with a shot of whiskey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Rich in Washington:

and whiskey for afters...
Avatar 7:44pm StringOFperils:

Enjoying the show, as I drop in and out during dinner. Watching some early election results on Deutsche Welle, German channel, so I can't understand a lot of it, which is good. Good to keep it (Enoch) light.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm coelacanth∅:

pecan pie and whiskey seems like a winning combination
Avatar 7:49pm shangri-lounge:

in a past life, i used to work at a bakery that incorporated alcohol into almost all of their desserts. i smelled like caramel corn for hours when i went home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Michael 98145:

i need to start drinking before i watch -any- election returns
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm coelacanth∅:

there once was an ice-cream/smoothie/juice bar here that had the best ice-cream on earth. (i know this because i really don't care about ice-cream and hadn't eaten it in years until i tried hers) several of them had fresh liquor in them, the bottles of which would sometimes be brought from under the counter when there wasn't actually any ice-cream being made.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks for a great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Shangri-La!
Avatar 7:58pm shangri-lounge:

Thank YOU, guys! Try to relax your minds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm coelacanth∅:

i don't think about it. i never think about it; i just check it out in the morning.
Avatar 8:00pm Mr Fab:

WOnderful show!
