Avatar 3:34pm Erica:

And Halloween can't come soon enough either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Funky16Corners:

I'm bummed the kids can't really trick or treat this year
Avatar 3:36pm Erica:

Kids in my town can trick or treat but have to social distance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm spodiodi:

i don't know what to expect this year, really (but i guess we should buy some candy, just in case)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Funky16Corners:

I don't think it's safe. I've been to two different doctor's offices this week (routine stuff) and the measure's they're taking suggest to me that we need to be CAREFUL
Avatar 3:37pm Erica:

Always be prepared spodiodi
Avatar 3:38pm Erica:

Depends on how bad Covid-19 is in your town Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Funky16Corners:

Covid-19 is the same EVERYWHERE
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Brian in UK:

Rev. Larry, always wait with anticipation for your sermon on the first break. You do not fail to deliver.
Avatar 3:39pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

Look here, if it ain't work or the grocery store, I ain't goin. MD is better than most, but I still don't trust anybody! Full stop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm spodiodi:

i'm with you, Vincent
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Funky16Corners:

NJ's numbers are going up again
Avatar 3:40pm Erica:

It's worse in some places Larry. There are probably people who are still in lockdown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Funky16Corners:

If they're not in lockdown, I suspect they might be again soon.
Avatar 3:41pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

@spodiodi - I should mention that I work at a grocery store ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Funky16Corners:

Countries in the EU are putting restrictions back on, big outbreaks in Wisconsin, New Mexico, Idaho and elsewhere
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Funky16Corners:

I hate to be a wet blanket, but there are a lot of people in this country that are not taking it seriously
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm spodiodi:

oooh, that's a tough one, Vincent! (i really worry about my sister, and a couple of other family members who's jobs require them to be around people, pretty much all of the time)
Avatar 3:44pm Erica:

I think they're just tired of the whole new normal thing Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm spodiodi:

we've been getting groceries every 3-4 weeks since it ll began
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm spodiodi:

heard that, Larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Funky16Corners:

That's the problem. 21st century people bore easily, and their leaders, who ought to be leadingt the way safely are jacking around
Avatar 3:46pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

I stay msaked up, and I'm rather ignorant toward customers who won't give me my 6'. I don't give a fuck who don't like it. I ain't trying to die for a shite salary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Funky16Corners:

I mean, half the people who wear masks wear them under their noses, which, I mean, WTF
Avatar 3:48pm Erica:

I wear those disposable blue masks when I go out so I don't have to worry too much about not taking the virus seriously
Avatar 3:48pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

Don't even get me started on that! Burns me up when I see that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm spodiodi:

i've been getting really good at walking backwards away from people who aren't careful enough

had one of those IN OUR HOME yesterday -- was kind of unavoidable and really, really disturbing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm spodiodi:

all i could do was stare at his nose and mustache in horror
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Funky16Corners:

I don't set foot inside too many places, but when I do I take it slow and keep my distance

That announcer sounds like a Simpsons character.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm spodiodi:

Woody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

Phil Proctor from Firesign Theatre has done a ton of animation voice work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Funky16Corners:

If you don't recognize the name, Google Mel Stewart. You will recognize the face
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm doctorjazz:

This Skip James song is up there with the best recordings EVER!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Funky16Corners:

I agree. Haunting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, Testify faithfull!!! Here are a couple of words about what's to follow on Give the Drummer Radio this evening. (As if anything could follow Testify.)

From 5 to 7pm (ET), the great Matt Fiveash stops by for the last of his five Thursday specials here at his old stomping grounds.

From 7 to 10pm (ET), the Explorers Room with Flash Strap is usually on, but Hurricane Zeta has knocked out power in central North Carolina, so it's quite possible (likely) that there will be no Explorers Room this evening.

From 10pm to Midnight, Little Danny is back with a spectacular special: THE DEAD ROAM FREE on the Cool Blue Flame. Here is the program description: "Little Danny forges into the weird dark parts with two hours of lost supernatural terrors, R&B creepers, hillbilly graves, spectral rock 'n' roll, witchdoctor exotica, b-movie atmospherics, creaking electronics, and much, much more, including the SCREAM-O-SCOPE™ playing vintage '50s and '60s b-movie horror clips on the playlist page! Spooky clean fun!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Brian in UK:

When the leader undermines the process how can there be a good outcome. Democrats are complicit for not provide credible opposition four years ago. It is just the same over here. Jeremy Corbin has been suspended today from the Labour Party for his poor handling of the antic Jewish actions of some of his party. He is also complicit for the poor election result in December giving the Conservatives a huge majority and therefore free reign.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

oh yeah, sounds good! hi, Larry and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Funky16Corners:

The people who are complicit are the ones that either voted for fascists, or didn't bother to vote at all. We don't need a messiah. We need sane leadership.
Avatar 4:14pm Erica:

Thanks for the schedule listings Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Funky16Corners:

Hey there Mx. Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Funky16Corners:

Sonic!
Avatar 4:21pm Erica:

...to look for Amerrrricaaaa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Brian in UK:

Great work from Roy Halee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - It also bears mentioning that electoral fatigue is a closed loop and self-fulfilling prophecy, part and parcel of the fuckery that brings to mind the old horror movie trope of "the call is coming from inside the house". There are a bunch of people inside government who don't want people to vote, or want to make it harder, and want to make people throw up their hands and walk away. The biggest revelation of the last four years is how flawed the machinery of our democracy is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

this song reminds me of my hippie parents, who conceived me on a road trip when this song was first out <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Funky16Corners:

Bookends is one of my favorite albums, just a remarkable piece of work
Avatar 4:24pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

<3 Desolation Row <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm doctorjazz:

The hits (at least My hit list) keep on a-comin''!
Avatar 4:25pm David Shortell:

I know from watching repeats of “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” and “This is Toms Jones” that Mel Stewart was part of the radical San Franciscan comedy troupe known as “The Committee” (I recall there was a whole chapter about them in Tony Hendra’s book “Going Too Far: the Rise and Demise of Sick, Gross, Black, Sophomoric, Weirdo, Pinko, Anarchist, Underground, Anti-establishment Humor).
Avatar 4:26pm Erica:

I had a feeling we would hear a Bob Dylan song. But I was hoping for The Times They Are A Changin'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Funky16Corners:

Hey David! You are correct, along with Gary Goodrow,Larry Hankin, Dick Stahl and Hamilton Camp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Brian in UK:

Bookends has it over Trouble over Bridgewater, apart from the Only Living Boy....
From over here it is such a worry to see America unmasked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - This song has always struck me as Bob's big painting of America
Avatar 4:27pm David Shortell:

---and Howard Hesseman and Peter Bonerz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I hear that so often from friends overseas. How bad it looks from the outside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Funky16Corners:

@David - Yes! I forgot about those two. I think Hesseman shows up with some of the later members of the Committee in Billy Jack
  4:28pm Sufferwords:

When they talk about American exceptionalism what they are really talking about our artists, our athletes, or spirit, our landscape - Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Bob Dylan... the true America not our politics - let the chimes ring with the promise of freedom
Avatar 4:29pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

If only you had "America" from Prince And The Revolution in this playlist...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Funky16Corners:

@Sufferwords - I like that
  4:29pm Sufferwords:

peace or what leads us there
Avatar 4:30pm David Shortell:

By coincidence, I recently borrowed Pete Fornatale's "Simon & Garfunkel's Bookends" from my local library.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Funky16Corners:

Peace would be nice. Peace among men. Peace of mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Funky16Corners:

@David - I didn't know he wrote a book about it. I'll have to look for that
  4:31pm Sufferwords:

Or the inner peace one feels when fighting facism
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Funky16Corners:

Yes indeed. The good fight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Brian in UK:

Stay positive. Mammon is not the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Funky16Corners:

Fingers crossed.
Avatar 4:34pm David Shortell:

I borrowed Pete Fornatale's book from the Monmouth County Library HQ, right near your hometown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Funky16Corners:

I'm not 100% sure anyone in this house has a valid library card. I'll check when I'm done.
  4:36pm Sufferwords:

dunno why I aint got a donate pumpkin- but just so you know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Funky16Corners:

Are you posting from the app?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Mike Sin:

In a very strange and weird way, I feel all damage that Trump (and his gutless Republican minions in the senate and the house) has done to this country has only made me that much more "patriotic." I still believe in this place -- I still believe the greatness is there because I always viewed the USA as the place that could change, evolve, and journey toward "excellence" faster than any other country out there. I've been shaken at my core -- but, I'd like to think there is hope.. that we all didn't watch a dream die because of complacency. Yes, I know... I'm still naïve in a lot of ways.
Avatar 4:37pm Erica:

Are you signed in suffer words?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm spodiodi:

suffer, you need to be signed in -- your black ID in the comments indicates that is not currently the case
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Funky16Corners:

Mike! Really well said, and I concur 100%.
Avatar 4:38pm Erica:

Agreed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm spodiodi:

hear you, Mike Sin
  4:38pm Sufferwords:

It's cool- I know- Mike Sin- there are a lot of us on the same tip-
Avatar 4:39pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

Yep. America has been complacent for far too long...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Funky16Corners:

We're going to need time to heal as a country. I don't know if we're going to get it, either. My 16 year old son is sick to death of politics (of course he does live with me,,,) but, as I've had to explain to him more than once. shit is SERIOUS and he needs to pay attention
Avatar 4:45pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

Agreed. Larry, and I'm glad he's in a place where it can all be explained to him straight, no chaser.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Funky16Corners:

It's tough on a kid. watching your parents have an existential crisis.
Avatar 4:50pm Erica:

I'm sick of it too Larry, not as badly as you and your son though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm spodiodi:

Sam Cooke, yeah...
Avatar 4:52pm Erica:

Oh boy get your (virtual) glow sticks out. It's An Cooke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm spodiodi:

thanks, Larry! great show. love the different takes on America
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Mike Sin:

Most folks, when they hit middle-age, go through that "when I was your age" routine about how tough it was and "you don't know how lucky you've got it" to younger folks.

It's completely opposite for me. I sit back and say, "man, I had it dead easy." I wonder if I would have had the chutzpah to deal with what's in front of younger folks now.
Avatar 4:52pm Erica:

Sam Cooke. Stupid autocorrect.
Avatar 4:53pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

My hero... *raises fist*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm dutchtheo:

Thanks, Larry!
Avatar 4:55pm Jeff Ash:

Thanks, Larry!
Avatar 4:55pm βrian:

@Mike Sin: No kidding. I feel like a lot of younger folks just don't have a moment to breathe, whereas I bumped about indecisively for years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Funky16Corners:

Thank you all!
Avatar 4:56pm Erica:

Let us hope Joe Biden wins the election Larry. See you all next time. As always, Testify!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Funky16Corners:

@Mike - I agree. I've thought the same thing. My teen years were so carefree compared to what kids have to deal with now. I feel guilty
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am Brian in UK:

Belated thanks for the show Larry. We had a power cut for several hours mid show. Chocolate and whisky kept me safe!!
  7:30am Funky16corners:
