Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am The Oscar:

A friend and I once posed a conundrum: is odder that he, as a teenager in the early 2000s, discovered Devo because he was a fan of Square Pegs, or that I, as a teenager in the early 2000s, discovered Square Pegs because I was a fan of Anne Beatts?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am David (in London):

I'm throwing in a vote for the theme tune to Magnum P.I.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Webhamster Henry:

I have an air check of a WBAI Citizen Kafka fill in show where people called in to sing their favorite TV themes! It was like 2 AM, and people couldn't stop calling in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am steveo:

Hi David I. L.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Handy Haversack:

I think Magnum went straight to cassingle, David.
Avatar 9:20am Sketch:

I'm really hoping you have the Duck Tales theme song
Avatar 9:20am Sketch:

Best modulation in a theme song ever
Avatar 9:20am Pale Son:

Only single of a TV theme I ever bought was "Angie." That song is messed up and I have no desire to hear it. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am David (in London):

Handy, I always play it when I'm racing around country lanes in my Ferrari 308 GTS.
Avatar 9:21am Rocky Horror:

@David (in London): the new version of Magnum P.I. the theme is sped up about 50bpm
Avatar 9:21am Joe McG:

@Pale Son: Wow, I want the "Angie" single!
  9:21am Listener Bop Monroe:

rule 1 is it's gotta be on 45.
rule 2, never talk about rule 1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Handy Haversack:

Oddly, me, too, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am melinda:

I'm feeling emotional now, this is so comforting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am pantz:

This is the "Goodnight Mr Lawrence." "Uhhh..."
I always liked the WKRP theme but I preferred the song at the end to the one at the beginning. Do you have that one?
Avatar 9:21am Creature Boy:

I know this guy who played bass on the Cheers thingie. True story. Is this becoming nightmarish for anyone else?
  9:21am AbeSomething:

Most of the Cheers lyrics were new to me. Some truly wild stuff in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am medson:

Isn’t this fun. Good morning Joe and everyone
Avatar 9:22am PKNY:

My man Idris Muhammad on the drums for "Angela"!
Avatar 9:22am Pale Son:

@Joe It was a big radio hit at the time. Now it just sounds like a bunch of coked out session musicians going off the deep end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am David (in London):

Rocky Horror, wait, what? Have they rebooted the show then? Who plays Magnum? Does he have a huge moustache?
  9:22am TVP:

I'm now completely thrown back to my high school's station, WCVH Flemington. During non-student DJ hours, it would play an automated mix of pop hits and TV theme songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Jeezy:

Not nightmarish at all, @creature boy! I'm LOVIN' it! Such strong writing back then...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am melinda:

@Creature Boy the Taxi theme is the remedy for nightmares
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am yerfriendpaul:

Love the Taxi theme!!
  9:23am morphe':

1980-1990 - lived without a tv and in foreign lands...

Room 222 must have been inspired by To Sir With Love???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Krys O.:

The Barney Miller theme is the GOAT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am LastWhiteRhino:

Is that Clay on flute ???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Avatar 9:24am Rocky Horror:

Avatar 9:24am Joe McG:

Damn, I also forgot my 45 for the theme to "SWAT."
Avatar 9:24am Strandlund:

Do you have the theme to Maude by Sammy Davis Jr.? It's Great!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am yerfriendpaul:

You know what I wish someone could do someday? Create a compilation of the transitional music played on a lot of these shows. You know, the music from scene to scene. The Flintstones had great transitional music. The Brady Bunch also. Early MASH episodes too
Avatar 9:25am PKNY:

I'm on the fence for asking if "Theme from SWAT" is on deck today, because I think the 45 edit gets rid of the classic breakdown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am LastWhiteRhino:

Sammy did keep his only eye on the sparrow.
Avatar 9:25am Joe McG:

@Rocky: Don't have it on 45, alas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Jeezy:

@Strandlund: I'm probably wrong, but I don't think the Brady Bunch theme ever came out on 45. I know it was by the Peppermint Trolley Company.

Threemoons - At my wife's request, we watched an episode of Buck Rogers recently. At the cosmic disco the band sound like Kraftwerk until Buck gets them to relax and rock, and which point they start playing like The Doobie Brothers. It's absolutely priceless.

We were in Glasgow a few years back and saw an NYPD patrol car parked at the kerb. I was completely stammygammered. And then we walked past it and saw the "Hire this car for film shoots!" decoration on the rear window, and the world once more made a tiny bit of sense.

Aged 14, Wright recorded her debut album for Alston, My First Time Around (1968), which not only revealed her to be a formidable soul singer but generated a single, Girls Can’t Do What the Guys Do, that reached the Top 40s of the US and Canadian pop charts."

just catching up now....@tim: the Persian 45’s were bought at a huge, messy junk warehouse that used to be in Williamsburg “back in the day”
it was affectionately known as the “Shit on Driggs” thrift shop, after the street it was on.

Joe!: sorry i missed the shout-outs! (lazy painter sleeping late) informed by friends texting. looking forward to listening to the archives.
