It’s just a re-packaging of Billy Boyd’s Twangy Guitars with two less songs. Billy Boyd was a fake name for Jerry Cole, the man partially responsible for the recycling and repackaging Animated Egg tracks. This song was originally called “Mambo Boogie.”

Welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Jan Turkenburg:

Thank You BC!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Jan Turkenburg:

It's rather chilly in here, isn't it?
Avatar 2:01pm Sonderangebot:

Hi BC, not sure if I can handle this song, on the cover it says sensitive people should avoid it. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Lotis:

Hello BC, tuned in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Lotis!
Avatar 2:02pm Martinibomb:

BC!
Avatar 2:03pm BC Sterrett:

Hey everyone! I barely made it :) You can skip this song if it's too scary Sonder. Come back in about 13 mins.
Avatar 2:03pm Mr Fab:

And a good boo to you, too!
Avatar 2:04pm Mr Fab:

Everything about this Horrific Child album is amazing. Most def including the cover art.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, Catfish Mask Replica
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Lotis:

Massiera here with a very nice reissue from Finders Keepers a few years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm ARB:

Yay more Horrific Child!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi ARB!
Avatar 2:11pm Mr Fab:

Can any French speakers translate, see voo play?
Avatar 2:13pm Sonderangebot:

What would like to know, Fab?
Avatar 2:14pm Sonderangebot:

I think he's saying 'No'. :)
Avatar 2:14pm Sonderangebot:

ARB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Rich in Washington:

Love this record so much.
Avatar 2:15pm Mr Fab:

Ha, no, he was speaking French in an evil monster voice before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm ARB:

Sondy! Fab! Rich! Jan! Lotis! and our most esteemed host, BC! Hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm ARB:

Sondy are you a native French speaker?
Avatar 2:17pm BC Sterrett:

Ha, the auto correct keeps saying Herk Hilliness instead of Hilligoss
Avatar 2:17pm BC Sterrett:

Hi DJ Arb!
Avatar 2:18pm Mr Fab:

I like how the robo-voice pronounced "exo-TIC-a"
Avatar 2:18pm Sonderangebot:

ARB: yes, French is my native language!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Lotis:

Les Classels, in every dollar box across Quebec.
Avatar 2:18pm Sonderangebot:

I think it's so funny to play Les Classels - even my dad jokes about them
Avatar 2:19pm Mr Fab:

#Les_Classels_so_white
Avatar 2:19pm BC Sterrett:

Ooh, I'd love some of the other Classels lps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Lotis:

Les Pencels
Avatar 2:19pm Sonderangebot:

BC: do you have their Christmas album?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Lotis:

BC - This one is not too shabby... goodbye wigs and hello colored suits - www.discogs.com...
Avatar 2:20pm BC Sterrett:

I do not! This is the only one I have.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Lotis:

No... I actually only have 1 Christmas Record, the JJP Switched On Santa. Purged all my Xmas stuff years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Lotis:

Come and visit us BC when the world hits the newer new... and you can stock up on Classels at shops. They just ran off so many LPs here, so you see a ton in Montreal.
Avatar 2:23pm BC Sterrett:

I'd like that :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Lotis:

Stock up on Romains too!
Avatar 2:25pm BC Sterrett:

Lots of Romains in the bins?
Avatar 2:26pm Mr Fab:

Lots of romains in the lettuce bins.
Avatar 2:26pm BC Sterrett:

Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Lotis:

...and if you visit the countryside, you can find sales where you can eat and listen at the same stall!
Avatar 2:27pm Mr Fab:

Os Mutantes! Was lucky to see 'em live some years ago. *sigh* Can't even remember the last live show i saw...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Jan Turkenburg:

A Fonky Flute! Love it
Avatar 2:30pm Sonderangebot:

I think I saw Mutantes live too ! Ah
Avatar 2:30pm BC Sterrett:

So Fonky
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm ARB:

I assumed so Sondy but then I thought you said you were Dutch at some point so wasn't sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Lotis:

Here as well Fab, they played in Montreal a decade back with just Sergio leading Mutantes with a younger backing band... but nothing short of amazing.
Avatar 2:33pm solo mon:

HelloooOO just needed to step out for a bagel and americano. Hi ev one :-)
Avatar 2:33pm BC Sterrett:

Anyone seen Solomon around today?
Avatar 2:33pm BC Sterrett:

Heeey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Lotis:

Sondy, it was at Le National, did you go?
Avatar 2:34pm solo mon:

Haha! BC!
Avatar 2:34pm Sonderangebot:

Lotis yes. Must have been that show. :)
Avatar 2:34pm BC Sterrett:

Solo would you still like to cover on the 23rd? Arb says she can do it as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Lotis:

Ha, that was the tour with... Ariel Pink!
Avatar 2:34pm Mr Fab:

Think that was the tour i saw, too. Free! At Amoeba.
Avatar 2:35pm BC Sterrett:

Fonky psych jazz
Avatar 2:36pm solo mon:

Id better hand it to arb they keep changing my shoot dates and I already enraged the client with my request Thursday no contact day. LOL
Avatar 2:36pm Sonderangebot:

I am so confused, I remember seeing Ariel Pink, too. At Le National.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Lotis:

There was the 2005-ish show at Le National with Ariel Pink too... our very own Don Bolles was on drums at that show.
Avatar 2:37pm BC Sterrett:

Arb are you still up for it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Lotis:

Oh geez, I mean 2015.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm ARB:

I gotcha BC, love a chance to play some different kinds of music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Lotis:

There was a 2017 show too Sondy at National w/ Pink and Bolles. It's all hazy, so many shows. Did hang twice with them in MTL though, or maybe it was all a dream.
Avatar 2:40pm BC Sterrett:

All yours. Thank you :)
Avatar 2:40pm Sonderangebot:

I saw Mutantes and Ariel Pink at Le National for sure. Together? I don't know. May be! I have kind of show brain damage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm ARB:

My pleasure, can you let Rebecca know?
Avatar 2:42pm BC Sterrett:

Sure I can do that
Avatar 2:43pm BC Sterrett:

Another question. Does anyone have mp3s of the Hi Hopes - Ability album they could send me for an upcoming show? The only time I came across that record, it was way too expensive.
Avatar 2:46pm Mr Fab:

Ira of Trouser Press has written down every show he's been to. That would never occur to me. That's like writing down every time I go to a restaurant or sumthin. Way too anal. Tho, of course, now i rack my brains and wish I HAD written it all down. And saved my flyers. And ticket stubs..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Lotis:

BC - My copy came from Pea, blog.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Lotis:

When I read Cosey's bio a few years ago there were good bits where she was so thankful she had a diary of events to go by, as time is a mofo!
Avatar 2:49pm Mr Fab:

yeah, at a Ramones exhibit at the Grammy Museum, Johnny Ramone's date book was on display. He kept meticulous notes. The book was open to a page that said simply for one day, "Met Phil Specter."
Avatar 2:51pm Mr Fab:

"Bolero Boogie"?! I have this on an album by "Eddie Wayne" song entitled "Dig Ye Deep." Also a Jerry Cole pseudonym, I believe. Great version of "rumble," basically.
Avatar 2:54pm Mr Fab:

Just looked up the album: "The Ping Pong Sound Of Guitars In Percussion" from 1961. So probably the first use of those tracks.
Avatar 2:54pm BC Sterrett:

That's what I was thinking, just another version of rumble
Avatar 2:55pm BC Sterrett:

So funny Fab, what a strange world we live in.
Avatar 2:56pm Mr Fab:

yeah, the same song, released under three dif titles. At least! Who knows how many others there are out there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Rich in Washington:

This sounds like the kind of stuff I'd get in trouble for at the dinner table and why we seldom ever had straws as a little kid.
Avatar 3:02pm BC Sterrett:

I'm bad at sudden needle dropping
Avatar 3:03pm chresti:

Hi BC and company!
Avatar 3:03pm Mr Fab:

BC, just cover it with some hip-hoppy wicky-wicky scratch mixing. Y'know, like: I meant to do that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Rich in Washington:

OH YEAH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm ARB:

Hellyeah!
Avatar 3:05pm Mr Fab:

Holy Spicolli, you saw The Monks?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm ARB:

I saw The Monks play in Bemidji, Minnesota where Gary Burger was mayor
Avatar 3:06pm BC Sterrett:

I saw them at the same show as Hasil Adkins. I got to meet them afterwards as well :)
Avatar 3:06pm Martinibomb:

a friend of mines band did an all monks tribute show and shaved their heads etc..
Avatar 3:07pm Mr Fab:

I had no idea the Monks played live in America. Was that the Viva Las Vegas fest, BC?
Avatar 3:07pm Martinibomb:

@BC you ever play much pinball?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm ARB:

2007 or so they did a reunion and Bemidji was the only US show. I happened to be harvesting sugar beets in nearby Wahpeton, North Dakota and had the day off. It was one of my top shows
Avatar 3:08pm BC Sterrett:

Yes something like that. It was a 60's gathering. The Seeds were also there. It's where I met Kim Fowley and the Vampire from Monster a Go-GO
Avatar 3:08pm BC Sterrett:

Sometimes MB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm ARB:

My friend looked up Gary Burger in the phone book and called him and asked if he could get 12 sugar beet harvesters on the guest list.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Lotis:

Wow, would have loved to see the Monks live. Nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Rich in Washington:

I should go give myself a Monk haircut right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Rich in Washington:

The Monks documentary Transatlantic Feedback is pretty good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Lotis:

Yea, I'd have to say... okay people, scratch the Monks plan, not shaving my head. Let's do Thelonioius instead.
Avatar 3:15pm BC Sterrett:

It's like the opposite of a Mr T. Haircut
Avatar 3:16pm Sonderangebot:

ARB this sounds like a premise of a Polish movie from the 1970s - invite youth sugar beet workers at a rock concert - then they have some discussions about the government and maybe there is some kind of love story between two sugar beet workers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm ARB:

BC, totally, directed by Kaurismäki
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm ARB:

I mean Sondy, not BC oops
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Lotis:

It is. Somebody should mashup Monks with Mr T Commandments and put a monk upside down on top of Mr T... interlocking hair blocks.
Avatar 3:18pm Mr Fab:

R.I.P. Simeon... o! how I love The Silver Apples. They (and the Velvet Underground) were in New York, as The Monks were in Germany, Syd Barret & Co were in London, and Beefheart in LA, all in their own lonely bizarro worlds, seemingly unconnected to the scenes around them.
Avatar 3:18pm Creature Boy:

I found this album at Goodwill for a buck
Avatar 3:19pm Creature Boy:

Silver Apples , that is
Avatar 3:19pm BC Sterrett:

I only have Contact on LP. The 1st album has always eluded me.
Avatar 3:19pm BC Sterrett:

You're hearing my copy now :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Lotis:

Both albums had nice reissues by Jackpot records recently from master tapes. The Garden has a WFMU connection too. ;)
Avatar 3:20pm Mr Fab:

That is mind boggling, Creature Boy! I certainly have never seen Silver Apples in the wild, I'd look like Redd Foxx on "Sanford and Son" clutching my heart..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Lotis:

Opposite for me, never caught Contact in a shop.. but did upgrade with old beat up OG first album with the reissue recently.
Avatar 3:22pm BC Sterrett:

Whenever I witnessed Silver Apples found in the wild it as a friend next to me saying, look what I found! I think it happened twice even.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm ARB:

I'll pass you a Ripple Mr Fab
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Lotis:

Jackpot is a cool label, not only Silver Apples but they were the folks who did the West Coast reissues from masters + Martin Denny. All Sheena approved sounds - jackpotrecords.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, they did some Wipers reissues and that amazing Cromagnon Cave Rock lp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Lotis:

Rich/MB/Solo - Do you go to the Jackpot shop in Portland? Bet it's pretty cool. Never been there when visiting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Rich in Washington:

They're also a brick n' mortar record store in Portland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Lotis:

I wanna go one day when it is the dawning of the newer new age of covidiiiness.
Avatar 3:26pm Creature Boy:

My find was in Los Feliz in-between Hollywood & Silver Lake. Not pristine , i think there was also a Who Sell Out that was pure junk condition. I also found 2 Louvin Bros 45s at the same spot & later an inflated 5$ Barbarians LP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm ARB:

Creature Boy that's directly between Mr Fab and I. We are both jealous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm ARB:

Jackpot is great!
Avatar 3:29pm Mr Fab:

That's even more amazing, to find Silver Apples in hipster haven like Los Feliz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm ARB:

I like the Little Axe shop too, which used to be in Montreal
Avatar 3:31pm Sonderangebot:

Nice ARB, didn't know about them, would love to buy some tapes
Avatar 3:32pm solo mon:

Member that time I preformed a coat hanger with Silver Apples?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Lotis:

I used to go to that shop ARB... back alley shop in the Mile-End area of town. Entered 2nd story in the back of an apartment and bammo, shop with Miss LPs/Little Axe tapes and used records, loads on consignment from local folks and always some sort of brownies to buy or whatnot.
Avatar 3:33pm BC Sterrett:

Didn't one of the Silver Apples just pass away, like really recently..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Lotis:

They closed up I guess when the guy moved, must have been 2014 or 2015.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm ARB:

I premember Solo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm ARB:

He's got a shop in Portland now, or at least he did...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Lotis:

If anyone has seen the South Park episode with member berries, I am using that voice now in chat.
Avatar 3:34pm Mr Fab:

R.I.P. Simeon, BC, the electronics whiz
Avatar 3:35pm solo mon:

I think there is still a little axe on burnside in PDX
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Lotis:

Yes, passed away last month.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm ARB:

I don't really know him but when I visited Montreal he brought me to a Quebecois country music club/dancehall that was pretty wild
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Lotis:

Little Axe tapes can be purchased online - www.littleaxerecords.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm ARB:

I've only seen one South Park episode. About a Human Cent-I-Pad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Lotis:

Not as good as the movies, plural. Can't believe I watched all those movies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm ARB:

Little Axe had one of the better Industrial sections I've ever seen in a record store, it was like all Industrial and records from Africa. I was in heaven
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Jan Turkenburg:

Wow, I didn't know this SJ recording!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Lotis:

When did you visit Montreal ARB? I don't know about that club offhand, maybe though, Sondy might.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm ARB:

2006
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm ARB:

Eager to go back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Lotis:

Ah, before my time. Moved to MTL in 2008.
Avatar 3:39pm BC Sterrett:

I believe it was a lost/unreleased Spike track for some time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm ARB:

That's why we didn't hang out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm ARB:

Food update: I'm eating an entire head of lettuce currently
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Lotis:

Ha, you know me. Like Jona Lewie would sing in my head, "you will still find me in the country music club/dancehall at parties"
Avatar 3:41pm Sonderangebot:

Sorry I don't know, I was too hip for country in 2006
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm ARB:

It was very Cajun, the Quebec/Louisiana connection was evident. Warren was drinking dixie cups of fruit punch which he called "Crybaby juice"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Lotis:

Bidding you all goodbye. Waving. Time to get things moving here further before the evening starts and food and later lovely fireside moments. I have heard mention there will be a recitation, 'Recollections of Milk' when the sun is setting in the west.
Avatar 3:44pm chresti:

I used to regularly snack on heads of lettuce.
Avatar 3:44pm chresti:

See ya, Lotus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm ARB:

See you by the fireside. I need to get things accomplished as well, tata friends!
