An almost Byzantine problem, βrian.

Hello, Mary! Hello Wingnuts. Glad to be here.

Hi Mary!
Hi 100%ers!

Avatar 12:04pm Mary Wing:

Hello Carmichael, Brian, David, Lixiviated Life, spodiodi, Handy, Rich, Sylvia, Lisa Phillippe, Hubig, and KWilde!
  12:05pm David in London:

I saw Rabih when he toured this album. With the truly incredible Glen Valez on percussion. I remember being in daze for days afterwards it was so mind blowing.

Yo Phillippe. And re-greetings to Ken refugees, Handy, spod et al.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Handy Haversack:

Phillippe. I feel like I missed my last opportunity for brain reintegration decades ago. Also: hi!

David, if you find proof on Logic Lane, we have a whole new spin on Inspector Morse in the works.
Avatar 12:09pm Mary Wing:

Heh, Ken-refugees are a thing now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Mary! I'm running GTDS and the Main stream simultaneously this afternoon.
Avatar 12:11pm Mary Wing:

Hi Henry! I hope you are dancing then!
Avatar 12:12pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

the beats of this intro sound like the intro of a Gus Gus song, "Believe"
  12:12pm David in London:

Mary, we paddle on log rafts to your safe and verdant shores.
Handy, don’t get me started on Morse or I’ll end up reciting The Dead of Jericho.
Avatar 12:13pm βrian:

Already, my ottoman is regaining a healthful turgidity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Phillippe Bastille:

Funny thing happened on the way to the forum: My middle son does some acting on the side, and he got a call to go on a shoot Sunday. They told him what he needed for wardrobe but did not tell him what the gig was about (not uncommon if the shoot will be outdoors and/or they don't want to draw a crowd. He's in the upcoming Wonder Woman movie, for example, and the gig was described as a small independent movie). Anyway he gets there and they tell him that he's a member of antife and he's supposed to stand with some other people and be real excited when a limo pulls up -- but they don't tell him who's in the limo. Well, the limo pulls up and a Joe Biden look-alike gets out of the limo, and he's being held up by people to imply he's a puppet. He's also in a later scene inside an embassy party (dressed like a partygoer, not a black clad antife member) where a bunch of Asians stand behind the limp Biden look-alike and pull strings and make his arms move to show he's a puppet controlled by the Chinese. Your basic fear-mongering commercial aimed at Wisconsin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Rob W:

Great opening segue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Handy Haversack:

Whoa, Phillippe, that is wild! And I guess totally predictable. But still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Webhamster Henry:

@Phillipe I hope he blew his takes. My son and ex do background (and a little foreground) work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Phillippe Bastille:

(hopefully her didn't sign an NDA and I haven't just gotten him in trouble lol)
Avatar 12:16pm βrian:

I'm sure that ad will play well in Tomahawk.
Avatar 12:17pm Sem:

Hello, Mary. A dumpster fire, they said. A trainwreck they said. Mudwrestling said.
Whatever, 100%.
Swag For Life Member 12:17pm spodiodi:

good gravy, PB
Avatar 12:18pm βrian:

You can argue said actor was talking in their sleep.
  12:18pm David in London:

Greetings to you Sem by the Bay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Phillippe Bastille:

Yeah, he's kind of disappointed he won't ever get to see it. It's a weird world in the video business this time of year. I used to write a lot of industrial videos and one of the production houses I worked with does a LOT of commercials this time of year for both sides. They are really conflicted but they can't ever say no and expect to stay in business.
Avatar 12:21pm Sem:

Hello, David on the Thames. Or at least a short ankle TO the Thames.
  12:27pm David in London:

Sem, I’m back in Oxford now, so it’s the Isis. We do everything differently here, even rename rivers.
Avatar 12:28pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Rob and Sem! Enjoy this last day of September with me!
Avatar 12:29pm Mary Wing:

I think I saw the video where puppet Ken Freedman is controlled by the Chinese, heh. It's all a conspiracy!
Swag For Life Member 12:30pm spodiodi:

"Free"dman, indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Handy Haversack:

Sounds like ol' puppet Ken renamed *that* river!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Stanley:

Jeez, Phillipe, that is some gig he had! No wonder they don't let on in advance.
Hi Mary and Wingnuts.
Avatar 12:35pm Sem:

David in Oxford: confusing it is. Consulting my map, I see Folly Island, in Oxford, is in the Thames.
Avatar 12:41pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Stanley! What's cooking this evening?
  12:43pm David in London:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Avatar 1:03pm Sem:

Mary, thanks to CanCon regulations here, I have a surfeit of "Life is Highway" large enough to last me 'til the sun goes nova, and the whole thing is ovah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Phillippe Bastille:

I understand we lost Mac Davis and Helen Reddy. Tuned in for the tributes.
Avatar 1:05pm Mary Wing:

No tributes from me, as they were both still alive when I recorded this show on Sunday. :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Webhamster Henry:

I was just going to ask if you were still prerecorded. Prerecordeds do have less of a chance of having a dropped remote line !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Phillippe Bastille:

Ah. Next week then.
Avatar 1:09pm Mary Wing:

I have to pre-record because my home internet is lame; my show would be nothing but dropouts if I tried to go live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Webhamster Henry:

Ken frowns on snazzing up your prerecorded shows, but I wish some DJs would do the old Steinski back announce, where excerpts of the back announced cuts are played with it.
Avatar 1:10pm Mary Wing:

Really, Henry? I didn't know Steinski did that; will have to check out his archives. You mean just a sample to remind you of the track?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm sphere:

hullo all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Webhamster Henry:

@Mary Yep! over bed music as usual.
Avatar 1:11pm Mary Wing:

Hey there sphere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Webhamster Henry:

Meanwhile, in re Biden Puppet ads:

Avatar 1:13pm Sem:

Thx for that link, WHH.
Avatar 1:14pm Mary Wing:

It's rilly sad that Biden has, like, no control over anything he does, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Webhamster Henry:

I missed the debate - there was no Dramamine™ in the house - but I was prepared to pipe it through my sound scrambling system.
Avatar 1:17pm Sem:

Coltrane excellent antidote to whatever ails ya.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm doctorjazz:

(And, Hi! Working bleary eyed, couldn't sleep after watching the debate).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm sphere:

I watched Twitter as everybody else watched the debate. That worked pretty well.
  1:20pm David in London:

Those early 60s Swedes had a treat there.
Avatar 1:21pm Mary Wing:

Hi doctorjazz!
I missed the debate, again, because I suck, heh. Figured I could catch up on the media frenzy today.
Avatar 1:22pm Hubig Pie:

Lady Day and John Coltrane when you be feelin'down and out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm sphere:

You made a good call, especially with this debate. Keep an eye on what he said about the Proud Boys.
Avatar 1:23pm βrian:

Our little human was watching with me and was agog. After the first few minutes, I decided it was time for both of us to go outside and look at the moon.
Avatar 1:25pm Mary Wing:

Moon for president, yo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, spod, I have to say that in my heart I expected failure, but I am currently copying files from the extracted HD of the old machine and on to the new one!

Cat Power -> Shaggs: for the WFMU segue contest.
Avatar 1:30pm Mary Wing:

  1:31pm spodiodi:

Handy, sweet!
Avatar 1:31pm Mary Wing:

I thought the previous segue into Bathysphere was pretty epic, though.
Avatar 1:31pm Roberto:

Ooh chard! I had some last night, blended with white beans. I recently had oral surgery and am still on a mostly mush diet.
Avatar 1:33pm βrian:

@Roberto: I try not to over-steam it. I have to make myself go out to harvest it. Not sure why. But when I finally do, I love it.
  1:34pm David in London:

Handy, are you laptopped-up once more then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm sphere:

i bet that chard with white beans made a great puree. was there any garlic involved?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Handy Haversack:

I was having pretty intense nicotine cravings yesterday. It has been four years, five months, and nineteen days since I quit.

David, it's starting to happen!
Avatar 1:36pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Roberto! "Mostly mush diet" sounds only slightly better than "oral surgery," yikes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm doctorjazz:

I saw The Shaggs at the Solid Sound Festival a couple of years ago. They were...interesting (the main appeal was seeing how real musicians managed to play "badly"; it's hard, like deliberately singing out of tune).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm sphere:

i never thought that the Shaggs were playing badly. they were just playing by a set of rules that were at a tangent to the ones that others used.
  1:38pm David in London:

Handy, I had a craving day recently for the first time in years. It’s been 12 years and 21 days for me. Gets you when you don’t expect it.
  1:39pm spodiodi:

To your cessation, Handy! Love your lungs
Avatar 1:39pm Mary Wing:

Yeah, The Shaggs and Jandek are just playing to rules we don't follow, is all.
Avatar 1:40pm βrian:

I resisted marijuana because I thought it might be a gateway to tobacco. I've never smoked a cigarette.

So far.
Avatar 1:42pm βrian:

Mary, you've set off my wife's S.A. receptors. She spent a year there and still waxes nostalgic.
Avatar 1:42pm Mary Wing:

I've puffed on perhaps five cigarettes in my life; one of which was a Camel unfiltered. Thought my lungs would explode, heh.
Avatar 1:43pm βrian:

I was sure you were going to say it was an exploding gag cigarette ...
Avatar 1:43pm Mary Wing:

It's probably not the same now as when she was there, though, Brian.
Avatar 1:45pm βrian:

Maybe. She's only returned once, to go World Cupping.
Avatar 1:45pm Roberto:

βrian, I have to saute it first so it'll be soft enough to blend.
  1:45pm David in London:

Mary, we played with Jandek at the incubus festival in 2009. He was amazing, sitting at the piano. An enormously large man fell asleep / passed out on his piano halfway through, and he didn’t even seem to notice.
Avatar 1:47pm Mary Wing:

No way, David! Was the large man in the front row?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Michael 98145:

(@HH, how is Kate doing?)
Avatar 1:48pm Mary Wing:

Did he release that concert, I wonder? Will have to check Discogs.
  1:49pm David in London:

He sure was. And it was rammed, so I thought he was actually going to pass out right on top of Jandek himself. Luckily he just missed and came to rest on the piano itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hi all. Don't git me started on Swiss Chard...Had it in my garden for many years but it died out about 2 years ago.
Avatar 1:51pm βrian:

The chard came back on it's own? I've never seen that.

It's time to harvest kale, too.
Avatar 1:52pm Mary Wing:

Hi Kevin! JINTF3OAK!
Avatar 1:53pm βrian:

We're, eh, counting on you, Mary.
Avatar 1:56pm βrian:

Apropos of nothing, Count Basie did a cover of I Dig Rock and Roll Music.

  1:59pm David in London:

We’ll be hearing ‘When a Child is Born’ again soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Handy Haversack:

David, yeah, yesterday's craving was explainable, at least.

(Michael, thanks for asking! Much improved from last night, just still swollen and in now in a "reasonable" amount of pain. We both are so heartened by all the support from the boards!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Michael 98145:

give her our best
Avatar 2:02pm Mary Wing:

Oh my gosh, what happened to Kate, Handy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Yep, Brian. At least in semi-tropical Southern Bklyn. I would always let at least plant go to seed. Seedlings would come up in the spring. Always had trouble with leafminers, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Handy Haversack:

Mary, her tooth fractured. Apparently, fractured teeth from COVID-stress-induced grinding is a thing these days! Two trips to Manhattan yesterday for emergency work. But she's feeling a ton better.

Michael, I did, and she's really touched.
Avatar 2:05pm Mary Wing:

Ouch, more dental issues; my gums cringe at the thought. I'm glad she's feeling better!
  2:07pm Listener Robert:

Get a honky like Michelle Boule's.
Avatar 2:08pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Handy my best to Kate
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Best to Kate from here too, Handy. Seen a little to much of oral surgeon myself recently.
  2:09pm David in London:

Being a Daoud myself, I heartily approve.
Hey Sylvia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Handy Haversack:

Sylvia, Kevin, thanks! Sorry to hear it, Kevin. These are not fun times! Except, you know, on the radio (and its equivalents).
Avatar 2:15pm Mary Wing:

I've created a new dilemma today: I try to use a lyric from the show's 3oak as the title for each playlist, and here is possibly the first instrumental 3oak--what should I title this playlist, then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Handy Haversack:

Maybe just "Ptah!"
Avatar 2:18pm βrian:

"En boca cerrada no entran moscas."
  2:20pm David in London:

Daoud’s all folks!
Avatar 2:20pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@David Good evening :)
getting ready for a new Bandcamp Friday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Handy Haversack:

That's right, Sylvia! It seems like it's come around again so fast.
Avatar 2:21pm Mary Wing:

Ah, is it Bandcamp Friday again? Nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Andrew_in_WI:

It's Ptah, not ptooey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Andrew_in_WI:

Potato, ptahto!
Avatar 2:27pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh, hi Andrew!
I think "Listen to Coltrane (both of them)" will be a reasonable title for now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Andrew_in_WI:

I've many more Alice LPs than John... at least three times as many
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm doctorjazz:

Such an unusual 3 of a kind...no complaints, though!
  2:32pm rw:

Howdy! Nice 3oaK.
Avatar 2:33pm Mary Wing:

Good mornig, rw!
I think I've played more Alice than John on my show, if I think back.
Avatar 2:35pm Hubig Pie:

Thought you might play The Sunwatchers cover. Heard here sometime in the past year.
  2:35pm rw:

Good morning! Almost afternoon and already 100 degrees F!

Ptah, is a good name for a playlist, but so is The El Daoud.
Avatar 2:37pm βrian:

Why doesn't the debate moderator have two prominently displayed switches to cut off a debater's mic?
Avatar 2:38pm Mary Wing:

Sunwatchers are coming next, Hubig!
Avatar 2:41pm Hubig Pie:

Oh, I thoughts this was an actual 3OAK
  2:41pm David in London:

4oak. Crazy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Andrew_in_WI:

I got another title, "The El Daoud Abides."
Avatar 2:42pm Mary Wing:

Ha ha haaah, nice one, Andrew!
Avatar 2:42pm βrian:

≥3OAK, yo.

Avatar 2:47pm Mary Wing:

But wait, there's one more cover!
Swag For Life Member 2:47pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Handy Haversack:

As I recall, Ptah created the universe, so five covers should we well within tolerances.
Avatar 2:56pm Hubig Pie:

This one's pretty great
Swag For Life Member 2:56pm spodiodi:

Mary Wing @ 215, i vote for DiL's pun @ 243 AS TODAY'S PLAYLIST TITLE ! ::D woops, capslock
  2:57pm David in London:

This is a storming version.
