Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Candy-O'67:

Oh, man, I'm sorry you didn't, Tim! I've seen them reformed several times in CA when I used to live out there and a couple times here in Austin. They've got a few young guys playing with them now. Singer of Lords of Altamont, Jake, and Evan Foster from the Boss Martians also play with them now when they last played! Hopefully they'll play again when this mess is over!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Candy-O'67:

Oh, and Dusty Watson drummed for them, too!
  12:35pm ashley morey:

Got to witness the Black Hollies cover of Real Crazy Apartment when they played with the Greenhornes at Maxwell’s several years back. In fact, I got to hear it a bit more than I would have liked given the number of times Justin practiced singing it ahead of time.... and yes, the rumors are true! First JAM solo single dropping in the coming weeks. Thanks for the shout out!!
Avatar 12:36pm Joe B:

@tim - well, co produced by matt smith would explain it!

Sometimes a song sounds like something you've heard before. Sometimes that means it's great; sometimes that means it's horrible. That one is the former.

Not for the first time have I been listening a RH story this week & broken info a smile, thinking “Roy Goddamn Head”! He was one funny loon. Imagining what he & Huey Meaux must’ve gotten into—or lived down to—in that “Crazy Cajun” era . . .

i need to walk more! (before i get any worse at it) -- have been too stationary and it showed when i spent about 3 hours shuffling around last week. *shakes fist at self*
  1:30pm David in London:

Spodiodi. I think everyone’s become rather blobby after the past six months. I’ve really ramped up the walking during the past month and it’s made a real difference. We did a 10 mile coastal epic the week before last. Nearly killed me, but it was great.
Avatar 1:32pm Carmichael:

Here you go! The original.
Avatar 1:32pm Carmichael:

The opening song to The Commitments.
  1:33pm David in London:

I confess I don’t really know Roy Head’s work outside this one. That’s going to be put right now in no short order I can tell you.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Candy-O'67:

@Dungaroos Kipawah, I hope you can, too! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm mariano:

I've got a fever. And the only prescription is more tambourine.
Avatar 1:36pm spodiodi:

David in London, atrophy is more a concern in my case, but it's really all the same, innit? (i about crawled into my place at the end of the 3 hour stint mentioned earlier.) i keep saying i need to get a daily walking routine worked out, but... the internet. and tv. and wfmu (lame excuse, spodi, you can take that with you!) yes, yes.

see anything good on your epic coastal walk?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm mariano:

Tommy DeVito was the name of Pesci's character in Goodfellas (the real guy was named Tommy Di Simone).
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:36pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Damn right, Joe!
Avatar 1:39pm Joe B:

@mariano - yes, pesci said that was intentional to call him devito
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Handy Haversack:

@Dungaroos K, hey there, pal.

Mariano, getting by, man. How fares the Marigny?

spod, when I lost my commute, I lost about four miles of baked-in walking. And like an idiot I never made up for it. I am just going to be better about letting work survive without me.

I walk back and forth twice over the Pulaski Bridge, which was always the best part of my commute. I can take the dog *and* I can read a book while I walk since there's no cross-traffic and they separated the cyclists to a different lane (which MOST riders manage to understand). So I'm also reading more again, which is good because I had really stagnated without the reading on that commute.

Also: damn right, Joe!
  1:41pm David in London:

Spodiodi, beautiful sea views and then some good buzzards patrolling the skies when we came inland a little. We finished at Camber Castle, which is awesome. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camber_Castle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Layet J:

Thanks for the great music today, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm mariano:

Just rewatched Sopranos, forgot that Frankie Valli had a role in one of the seasons, a mobster derisively referred to as the Mayor of Munchkin Land by his detractors.

Marigny's good, Handy, thanks. Slowly coming back to life. Antoine's just reopened, a most propitious omen.
Avatar 1:43pm Joe B:

thanks for listening layet j!

that reminds me - fuck clint eastwood for doing such a shitty job on the jersey boys movie
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:44pm tim from champaign (now washington):

An "oldies" band I've really come to appreciate in recent years is The Hollies. I'd ignored them for a super long time. The song that grabbed me was Carousel because it sounded like the DNA bluprint for Guided By Voices.
Avatar 1:44pm Joe B:

thought valli was great in the sopranos!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Candy-O'67:

I've gotten more into The Hollies lately, too, Tim
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm mariano:

Joe B: that's right, Pesci's also something of a lounge crooner isn't he, makes sense he'd know his fellow Jersey boys. Didn't know the name in Goodfellas was a deliberate tip of the hat though, thanks for the cool bit of trivia.
Avatar 1:46pm Joe B:

pesci was yes. and he did introduce devito to bob gaudio. so, pesci played a key role in rock and roll history
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm mariano:

Yeah, Valli's got a pretty withering stare, Joe B. He totally sold that role.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Krys O.:

A friend named his daughter after this Four Seasons song.

David, the buzzards sound neat (birds are winning these days -- there is a flock of conures nearby whose numbers have increased noticeably -- hear them fly over each morning and evening).

and i dig that castle (you all have some old stuff :)

Hey Joe, Diggin the Sounds. Never knew the Q and the Mysterians got Can't Get Enough Of You Baby from the 4 Seasons. Thanks for the schoolin'.
Avatar 1:50pm spodiodi:

Handy, the bridge walk sounds rewarding. reading and walking? i have a ceiling of chewing gum and walking, i think. have an aunt who used to drive a lot for work, and read! (crazy.)

I'm steeped in the Four Seasons catalog from all those years listening to CBS-FM as a kid.

Joe Pesci was also guitarist in one of Joey Dee's bands.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Krys O.:

I believe the Ondioline is what adds that touch of Meek.
  1:53pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

And on his solo album, LITTLE JOE SURE CAN SING, he did a couple of Beatles and Bee Gees songs.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Handy Haversack:

We are thinking of rewatching /The Sopranos/ after we finish rewatching /The Wire/.

The attempted hit on Sil in a late-ish season is filmed in the Wburg standard Bamonte's, under the BQE.
  1:55pm Victrola Tom:

Hey Joe B! Nice Tommy D tribute! Tommy actually produced a record by my brothers band, the Four Kings out of Linden. The song was One Night, on Canadian American and it was written for the 4 Seasons. And my brother does the Franki Valli falsetto! Total rip off, but a great song!
Avatar 1:56pm Joe B:

wow tom, did not know that! amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Gaylord Fields:

@Joe B: Thanks for the tributes!

@Victrola Tom: Too cool! I know that song from the 4 Seasons soundalikes comp on Teensville — it's pretty convincing, and also a good record in its own right!

I avoided the movie "Jersey Boys". That bad, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm mariano:

Handy: I just finished the series, I think it's held up incredibly well. I rewatched the Wire a year or two ago, another show that's held up.

It sounds like the Syndicate of Sound were hanging out with the Sir Doug Quintet, Joe!
  2:07pm SledDawg:

Treat Her Right was a great band named for that song. Precursor to Morphine, led by the genius mark Sandman. I saw them play at Live Tonight in Hoboken a bunch of times in the 80s/90s. The were on RCA so got screwed like so many others. Killer band with a unique worth seeking out. Hey JoeB: play some sometime! ;-)

Dungaroos - one of my fondest "star encounters" was when I spotted Mark Sandman at the bar at Live Tonight during a crowded break (THR was >opening< for Hoboken local faves The Delevantes, and everyone was ignoring them, 'cept me. I went up to Sandman, who had a beer and a shot, and told him I was a huge fan and that I thought he was a a great songwriter. He turned to me with a Marlboro hanging from his mouth and said: "Well what are, some kinda expert or something?" I slunk away...

@Mariano. Me too. Sounds like a cross between The Bats and Look Blue Go Purple.

The drum opening to this Silver Apples somehow evocative of Walk Like A Man. Or maybe it was all the Four Seasons influencing that thought.

great show Joe B! missed a little because my phones battery died
  2:48pm Gerry from Miami:

Wasn't that Kiki Dee single, "Love Makes the World Go Round" a hit for Deon Jackson back in the 60s? And I guess Elton John stole Ms. Dee from Motown for his own Rocket Records label and that big hit, "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart."
Avatar 2:49pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Matt Berry not sounding so much like Lee Hazlewood as much as giving off Hazlewood vibes.
