(Bonus Track) 101 Strings  Karma Sitar   Options Sounds of Today    Originally (?) found on the 101 Strings “Sounds of Today” LP in 1967. In 1970, an “adult” version with moans turned up re-packaged on the 101-Strings - Exotic Sounds Of Love LP. In 1972, the original version appeared as the b-side to the 101-Strings “porno” single “I Remember.” This track was also used as a bonus track on the 1996 re-issue of “Astro-Sounds.”

Strings For Young Lovers  Mac Arthur Park   Options The Young Sound '68    Luckily I have two to play off each other, Like the Hair-Aquarius LP :)
Options
1:19:58 (Pop‑up)
The Animated Egg  Sure Listic   Options The Young Sound '68  LP  Enter songs by "The Animated Egg" on these LPs. Along with the specific tracks that Biafra mentions, I'll also be playing each time an Animated Egg track appears on these budget psyche records. But will give you a mix of what else is on them as well. There may be a repeat or two.
Options
1:26:49 (Pop‑up)
The Animated Egg  I Said, She Said, Ah Cid   Options The Young Sound '68
Options
1:28:36 (Pop‑up)
The Young Sound of ’68 (Actually, The Hollywood Soundstage Chorus)  Home on the Range   Options Songs of the Golden West    One of the greatest crimes of the Somerset label, is that they slapped the cover of The Young Sound ’68 on a another record that has nothing to do with it. You turn it over to the back cover, you find out that it’s actually a record by “The Hollywood Soundstage Chorus“ with “Songs of the Golden West and Songs of the Deep South, and so people thinking were getting “Out of Sight Hits For The Now People, are ironically treated to songs like “Old Folks at Home”, “Dixie” and “Home on the Range”. Always look carefully at what you’re getting from deceptive budget LPs.

Options
1:38:41 (Pop‑up)
The Now Generation (actually: Paul Griffin)  Frankie And Johnny   Options Sock It To Me!    NO Animated Egg on this record. This track is also found on the Young Sound ’68 LP credited to “The Mustang.” It’s also on the Block Busters LP credited as “The Young Sound of Today” etc.
Options
1:42:16 (Pop‑up)
The Now Generation (actually: Paul Griffin aka “The Mustang”)  Sockerina   Options Sock it To Me!    This track is also found on the Orange Groove - Crystal Blue Persuasion LP, uncredited. With the couple of “sock” titles on this LP, it's strange that they didn’t include Animated Egg’s “Sock It My Way.”
Options
1:44:49 (Pop‑up)
The Now Generation (actually: Little Joe Curtis)  Mercy, Mercy on Me   Options Sock it To Me!    A re-packaging of the Little Joe Curtis song “Have Mercy on Me?” originally found on the Somerset/ Stereo Fidelity LP “Here Comes Some Soul From Otis Redding And Little Joe Curtis”, as brought up on the previous episode on budget labels.
Options
1:47:54 (Pop‑up)
The Now Generation (Actually: Paul Griffin aka “The Mustang”)  Down Home Baby   Options Sock it To Me!    As also found on the Crystal Blue Persuasion and Other Sounds of Today LP, uncredited
Options
1:50:38 (Pop‑up)
The Young Sound of Today (Real Artist: The Animated Egg)  Sure Listic   Options Block Busters    Upon comparison, this record has the exact track list as The Young Sound '68. This song became “Space Odyssey” on Astro Sounds.
Options
1:53:08 (Pop‑up)
101 Strings  Space Odyssey   Options Astro Sounds From Beyond the Year 2000
Options
1:54:53 (Pop‑up)
The Young Sound of Today (Real Artist: Little Joe Curtis)  Mini Skirt   Options Block Busters    Track also found on The Young Sound '68 and on the Somerset/ Stereo Fidelity LPS “Here Comes Some Soul From Otis Redding And Little Joe Curtis”, as brought up on the previous budget label episode. I wanted to play this track then, but saved it till now to show the ridiculousness of these records. I just now realized though, that the sound is bad on this one, like they tried to take out his voice. huh, oh well... I'll play the better version of it next time :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm chresti:

Hi BC and finders of the media!
Avatar 2:13pm Franco Twinkie:

I loved watching The King Family holiday specials. There were more people on stage than a concert by The Mothers Of Invention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm chresti:

Reporting back from the other streams and found that food is discussed, all is good.
Avatar 2:14pm BC Sterrett:

Avatar 2:33pm BC Sterrett:

Oh man, if you find out the title let me know Franco!
Avatar 2:34pm Franco Twinkie:

I will dig around BC. It's in here.....someplace!
Avatar 2:34pm Mr Fab:

“Longhair” originally meant stuffy/classical. Hence, the Hi Los doing songs based on classical classics. The hippie connotation came later. -Mr Fab, knows way too much about vintage slang
Avatar 2:36pm BC Sterrett:

Yes Mr. Fab :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm ARB:

Where's Jan of the Secret Summertime Society?
Avatar 2:38pm Mr Fab:

Ha, i wondering that, too. Who knew that‘hippie music’ meant...Gershwin..?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

chrestikins! solo mon! what's on the menu?
  2:40pm zzzm:

Avatar 2:42pm Mr Fab:

I like the “bonus tracks” (aka ‘filler’) the best on these bargain label records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm chresti:

Franco's going to get some med grill shishkabob and falafel
Avatar 2:44pm Franco Twinkie:

I haven't had gotten a haircut in years, I don't have to, it just breaks off.
Avatar 2:45pm BC Sterrett:

Psych to listen to with your parents :)
Avatar 2:45pm Rush-Shell:

Reminds me of the Roller-Rink growing up. It was called Aquarius so this was played every visit! Under the disco ball!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm chresti:

I need a haircut, my hair is starting to clog the drains and form into balls on the floor.
Avatar 2:46pm solo mon:

Hair. more like “square”
Avatar 2:47pm solo mon:

I currently look like a grisled background miner character from paint your wagon.
Avatar 2:47pm Franco Twinkie:

...and after I go get lunch, I'm going to look for my wah wah pedal in this trash pile.
Avatar 2:48pm Mr Fab:

@Rush-Shell: probably how the Aquarius Theater in Hollywood got it's name. Bet there were lots of "Aquarius" things there for a while...
Avatar 2:48pm Mr Fab:

why "yeller"? WHY?
Avatar 2:49pm Franco Twinkie:

Solo, me too. A wild blackberry bush in it's natural state.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm melinda:

Avatar 2:54pm BC Sterrett:

Psyche that older business people think you should hear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Rich in Washington:

yeah, I love self-released lounge act records where there's at least one track for the younger, turtleneck and blazer set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Rich in Washington:

Wow. That just went on and on and on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm chresti:

Hi melinda and Sem.
Avatar 2:58pm BC Sterrett:

Me too Rich! We should do an entire episode of those
Avatar 2:59pm BC Sterrett:

I think this song is giving me a headache. ha
Avatar 2:59pm solo mon:

Both in love with and mad at this record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm chresti:

Rich, or they play it to impress a cute hitch-hiker they picked up.
Avatar 3:00pm Mr Fab:

"harsh noise" was apparently invented in the '60s. Take that, Whitehouse!
Avatar 3:02pm Franco Twinkie:

It's funny how I never heard this budget label psych when It first came out. I was to steeped in the real stuff I guess. Who knows. But once it hit the cut out bins at the Thrifty Drugs Store my appetite for this stuff eclipsed my love of The Jefferson Airplane by leaps and bounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Rich in Washington:

"This is for that SPECIAL lady in the back row! A one, a two, a three!" Goes into a fuzzed out rendition of I Think I'm Going Out of My Head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm spodiodi:

hi BC and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Rich in Washington:

OH YEAH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Rich in Washington:

Of all the millions of 101 Strings albums I've run across in the wild, I've NEVER seen this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Rich in Washington:

I love this!
Avatar 3:09pm Sonderangebot:

I've listened to that record with my sweetheart
Avatar 3:09pm Franco Twinkie:

Rich, it's on CD of course and the sound is awful. Brittle and flat. Truly a sin for such a demented masterpiece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm chresti:

Hi spodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm spodiodi:

my neighbors are going to think i'm watching a pornographic movie
Avatar 3:10pm BC Sterrett:

OH gosh, this just keeps going
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm melinda:

The juxtaposition of muzak strings with moans is interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm spodiodi:

hi, chresti!
Avatar 3:11pm Franco Twinkie:

There's a show, orgasm records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm chresti:

And melinda, hi!
Avatar 3:11pm Sonderangebot:

She may just be having very good cannoli.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm spodiodi:

i want one of those
Avatar 3:12pm Mr Fab:

i've seen "Astro Sounds" in the wild - on the wall of collector shops. It was not popular with 101 Strings fans, a lot were sent back.
Avatar 3:13pm Sonderangebot:

Hey this song is for my show haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm chresti:

Sonder, when is your show?
Avatar 3:14pm Mr Fab:

i DID however find that "Love at First sight" 45 in a thrift. THere's a credit on the label, something like "special vocal effects by Bebe someone." So I figured it had to be interesting.
Avatar 3:15pm Franco Twinkie:

So tis is where the straight guy in a hippie wig comes through the beaded curtain looking for his girlfriend who's run off with a bongo drummer from Venice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm melinda:

@Franco haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm spodiodi:

nice, Franco
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm melinda:

I was thinking there was a bit of 007 sound in that last one
Avatar 3:17pm Sonderangebot:

Well, chresti, it's my friends Constance and Leland's show, later tonight.
Avatar 3:19pm Franco Twinkie:

The very idea of driving up the 101 listening to this is to much to bear.
Avatar 3:20pm Mr Fab:

Joe Strummer's pre-Clash band was called the 101ers. And they played instruments with strings. Say, you don't suppose..?
Avatar 3:21pm Franco Twinkie:

The cake! Someone cover the cake!
Avatar 3:24pm Mr Fab:

Did any of my fellow Angelenos see Jimmy Webb actually play this song in MacArthur Park a few years ago? i couldn't make it, and it haunts me to this day.
Avatar 3:25pm Franco Twinkie:

I did see the Ah La La's at MacArthur Park in the band shell a few years ago with a polka dot light show behind them. It was pretty damn good. And yes Fab, I was at the Jimmy Webb show too!
Avatar 3:29pm Mr Fab:

Aaargh, so jealous! Was it, like, him and a piano, or he had a good-sized group with him? (Can't really imagine a small-scale "MacArthur Park.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm melinda:

I love the easy listening of yore.
Avatar 3:34pm BC Sterrett:

I actually kinda like this version
Avatar 3:36pm Franco Twinkie:

Well, he had a pick up band with him at the piano. He talked a lot which was great, He is real funny and as you can imagine some crazy ass stories. And get this, during the preamble to Mac Arthur Park, an LAPD chopper was raking the park with a search light. Now THAT was a real L.A. moment.
Avatar 3:37pm Mr Fab:

'We have a report of a cake left out. Suspicious colored icing."
Avatar 3:38pm Franco Twinkie:

HA!
Avatar 3:39pm Mr Fab:

LOVE this song, my fave off of this album. Those crazy female vox..
Avatar 3:40pm Mr Fab:

and agreed, that is basically the 101 Strings version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Sounding fabulous!! Going to listen to the archives tomorrow when I do some cooking <3
Avatar 3:45pm BC Sterrett:

Sounds good GG! Thanks for the access to your article :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@BC - You're very welcome, my lovely :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is all my kinda music :-)
Avatar 3:49pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, so now I can go get lunch. What shall I listen to in my truck driving to Pasadena? Hmmm, how 'bout Orange Skies and Bummer In The Summer by Love? Nuff said. Thanks BC.
Avatar 3:51pm Sem:

This has been such good fun. Thanks, BCS. Just the thing for an overcast and cool day on the shores of the North Atlantc. See you later.
Avatar 3:52pm solo mon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm ARB:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm spodiodi:

thanks, BC!
Avatar 3:57pm Mr Fab:

Jerry Casale said in an interview this morn that he had the covids. Mark Mothersbaugh also had it. Shit, we almost lost Devo.
Avatar 3:57pm solo mon:

Oh no! Not Devo
Avatar 3:59pm Mr Fab:

The sound is bad on a lOT of budget label rekkids. i swear Crown pressed their stuff on asphalt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm ARB:

thank you BC!!!
Avatar 3:59pm BC Sterrett:

Thanks everyone. More of this madness next week!
Avatar 3:59pm Mr Fab:

Like wow, man, this show has been groovy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm chresti:

Avatar 4:00pm BC Sterrett:
