Joe, you are falling into my 90s with the Belle and Sebastian and S.F. Seals. I still listen to Truth Walks in Sleepy Shadows. Manning's voice is very sweet. The Greasy Kid's Stuff crew used to play "Kids' Pirate Ship" quite often. Kathy McCarty would go well among these songs.

foreign_listener_k - It's not 'typically British', that's a lazy generalisation. Some parts of the population indeed, but plenty more no not at all. Many German POWs elected to stay in the UK after the War, for example, because the hostility was so quickly forgotten, from Man City goalkeeper Bert Trautmann to the Schramm family in the village where I grew up.

The Penthouse was on the first floor of of a 5 story building in the oldest part of town. Lots of live albums were recorded there in the 60's. The building is still there but the "Penthouse" is long gone.

I was at a Scottish New Year's Eve party in Los Angeles in 2015. The proud hosts had a live feed from Glasgow that featured the Bay City Rollers playing live. It was four in the afternoon in Los Angeles. I had no idea that the Bay City Rollers were Scottish and that they were still playing together in 2015.

Only one original dude in the Rollers these days.... It's amazing how so much of their mid LPs are filled with original material by the band. After the success, they were given a lot of songwriting control. The covers of the Raspberries and Bowie on the later LPs are pretty interesting.

I saw Del McCoury in Prospect Park many years ago. He has such a warm and welcome stage presence. He actually solicits requests. I still think one of my favorite songs of his is the version Richard Thompson's "1952 Vincent Black Lightning". McCoury played it when I saw him. Then several years later I saw Richard Thompson perform it in Prospect Park on a very rainy night.

That is great about the post office. If people want to write letters to support the post office and help our democracy, there is a group called Vote Forward that has you write letters to people in certain states reminding them to vote. It has a template that you write on to explain your reasons for voting. It's non partisan. it's just encouraging people to vote. I wrote ten letters to people in Ohio last week. You can find them at votefwd.org.

When I was headed into Columbus, I found a record store near/around Otterbein University called Spinning Disc Records (in Westerville) . . I picked up a few . . But it was mostly all 60's-90's stuff . . They pretty much stopped at Nirvana and Butthole Surfers. But . . I was telling the owner about wfmu . . If you ever go to Merlefest in western North Carolina, it's filled with hippies, actually. The Grateful Dead performed bluegrass numbers and their songs have been covered by bluegrass musicians. Oen of the best is the Chris Hillman, Tony Rice quartet's version of "Friend of the Devil".

Well present company will be aware the old joke - I like both kinds of music, Country - & Western has roots in reality: Country bring the Hill music & Western the Cowboy songs...
We Leftists & Hipsters feel obliged to say 'Americana' maybe - but screw them: they don't own Country. Commercial Nashville Corporate is manufactured for the Lowest Common Denominator for easy profits - & that has meant RightWing pandering - but there's a he'll of a lot more American Roots style musics than that. & great stuff it is too!
