Avatar 11:47am Sean in Bristol UK:

Good afternoon Irene, hello one and
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, Irene, and how do, Monday crew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Irene Trudel:

Happy Monday Sean, james and all tuning in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

I can still see the sun! Greetings, Irene and WFMU pals!
Avatar 12:03pm Sem:

Hello, Irene, all.
Is this Frank X. O'Toole-era Speed the Plough?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Irene Trudel:

Ooh, Granny! I forgot about the fires in the SF Bay area. How is it by you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Sem! This STP track is brand new!
Avatar 12:06pm Sem:

Yeah, see that reading the music press. Thx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm alanr:

Fire in the Belly -- to quote David Woynarowicz, Sam Keen, and, of course, Van Morrison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm doctorjazz:

Hi Irene and folks! How'd you like Sex Mob? I thought they were great (as did my crew)! Especially that ending medley: come Sunday/I Can See For Miles (what a choice)/My Bucket:s Got A Hole In It (I think)/Didn't He Ramble. Reminded me a bit of the Dead (yeah, no vocals, acoustic instruments, I know. But the way of playing inside, drifting outside, stringing the tunes together was very Dead-like to my ears). And isn't John Medeski a monster? Kind of beat today, but worth it all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm doctorjazz:

And nice to get to meet you, mask and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Irene Trudel:

Hey doctorjazz! It was great seeing you at the Sex Mob show last night. We really loved the show, and it was such a relaxed atmosphere that it almost felt like normal times. Great medley (and playing throughout)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm doctorjazz:

It really is a beautiful setting. My brother in law, who lives nearby, hadn't heard of it. And Jeff Conklin, who also lives in the area, hadn't heard of it either. Felt like the vacation I haven't been able to take. Oz Noy there next weekend, considering going again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm listener james from westwood:

"Healing Is a Miracle" dropped on us all just when we needed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Irene Trudel:

It's a gorgeous album, as one might expect from Julianna, james. Hi alanar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm listener james from westwood:

Plus Julianna working with Mary Lattimore is like WFMU ambrosia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Michael 98145:

waahh - i miss live music!
Avatar 12:36pm deborah:

Always glad to listen!
Avatar 12:41pm Malcolm:

hi irene, listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Michael, deborah and Malcolm! Yeah, we really miss live music shows. But a few are happening out there. I'm going to try and mention them as they happen.
Avatar 12:44pm Malcolm:

I'm going to my first gig since February on Friday. so excited!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm doctorjazz:

So do I Michael 98145. Was great to finally see one after all these months. Keeping my eyes peeled as well (especially this board).
I believe they can't actually charge an admission/music fee under the current COVID-19 rules. They had boxes out for the band, with a suggested donation (you could do it by credit card as well, added to the dinner bill). Hope the band did OK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

loving this set, and this wonderul John Renbourn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm doctorjazz:

Great set, amen to Mx. Granny (e/em).
Avatar 12:52pm Constant Follower:

Beautiful show so far. I never knew this live comments existed! Listened in isolation from the main page and all this is going on over here! Still no gigs on the horizon here in Scotland. But what a wealth of wonderful music coming out at the moment. The Julianna Barwick has been getting heavy play in my hoose. Utterly beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Doug Schulkind:

Howdy, Irene and Ireneophiles!
Avatar 12:54pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

  1:31pm Alan Cynic:

Just tuned in now....thank you for the play earlier, Irene :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Summer and Michael and Sylvia and Alan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Irene Trudel:

R.I.P. Justin Townes Earle. He came in for a few Soundcheck sessions over the years. Good guy but troubled., gone way too young.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm doctorjazz:

Wow! Sorry to hear that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Irene Trudel:

Yeah, that was quite a shock. Justin was only 38.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Michael 98145:

( pitchfork.com... )
Avatar 1:50pm deborah:

So sad about Justin Townes Earle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Irene Trudel:

This was one of my favorite things he did for Soundcheck. www.newsounds.org...
Avatar 1:59pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Love this track
Avatar 2:04pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Frank, marvellous, anyone get to see the excellent documentary ‘Eat That Question’?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, Sean! I love that they didn't include narration-- just pure Zappa through film and TV clips. Must see IMO.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Michael 98145:

well, that was something
Avatar 2:11pm Sean in Bristol UK:

And there is another documentary about Frank coming later this year, director is a big name who I have completely forgotten
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Irene Trudel:

Cool, Sean! Although it will be hard to top "Eat That Question."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Michael 98145:

Zappa - www.imdb.com...
Supposedly by November.
Avatar 2:17pm Sean in Bristol UK:

I remember know, I was reading a piece in the NY Times about the next instalment of Bill & Ted, Alex Winter is the director of the forthcoming Zappa documentary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Michael! I'll watch anything with Zappa! Such an interesting guy, and great guitarist, among other things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Michael 98145:

I'll bet this group IS fun live
  2:19pm Peter K.:

Sean, the "big name" director of that new Zappa movie is Alex Winter, better known as Bill of the "Bill & Ted" movies. Not exactly an auteur. I'm looking forward to it anyway, because I love Zappa. (And there's a new "Bill & Ted" movie about to be released. What year is this??)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm doctorjazz:

I saw that Batista show listing, sounds interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm doctorjazz:

Oz Noy this weekend also of interest to me.
Avatar 2:24pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Peter, I’m signed on to see the next Bill & Ted adventure, ‘Bill and Ted face the music’ opens 23rd of next month
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Irene Trudel:

doctorjazz, I don't know Oz Noy but the personnel look great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Michael: Can you hear the sleigh bells?!
Sylvia: Yes. You like sleigh bells a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Irene Trudel:

If you're in the NY area, this is the venue doctorjazz and I are talking about. The shows are no tickets/no cover but they request donations for the musicians and you must purchase dinner. www.liveatthefalcon.com
Avatar 2:44pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

this place looks great, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, Sylvia! I really hope more venues try for outdoor performances, although in NYC space is very limited. If any of you know of venues doing something similar, please pass it along. I'd be happy to announce them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm doctorjazz:

I have a blues CD by Oz Noy (very jazz oriented), like it a lot.
Thanks, Irene, loved the show!
Avatar 2:55pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Had a look myself, obviously I can’t get there tonight but the beer tap selection and food menu looks great and of course, the bands to see. You lucky folk in New York State, so envious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks everybody for tuning in today! Catch you next Monday at noon.
Avatar 2:55pm Constant Follower:

Wonderful 1st show 'in company'. Thanks Irene!
Avatar 2:56pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Avatar 2:56pm Really Lisa:

Thank you, Irene.
Have a great week, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Irene Trudel:

Sean, it's about an hour and a half drive for us each way, so we have to plan our trips upstate. Obviously a bit longer from the UK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Irene Trudel:

Cool Kenzo! Coming up next.
Avatar 2:58pm Sean in Bristol UK:

My three hours of sanity, peace, harmony and just pure blissful music is at an end, roll on next Monday, thank you Irene for your constant shows of quality and excellence,
