Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Doug Schulkind:

Hurry up and fast, melinda! (G'luck with the appointment.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Phillippe Bastille:

Hey Doug, everyone! Good morning from Annapolis on this stunning day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Webhamster Henry:

Hilda is great! Meanwhile this set is reminding me of a Bollywood show that Rob W. did in 1991 that I had air checked on tape and listened to over and over during Hurricane Bob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Doug Schulkind:

Stunning to see you, Phillippe Bastille!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Phillippe Bastille:

@Melinda. I feel ya. I do the intermittent fasting diet and don't normally have my first meal until around noon. It took a while of getting used to eating my first meal so late
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am listener Rey:

Good morning Doug and everyone out there in Drummer Radioland

Hey hey, listener Rey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am melinda:

@Phillippe I hear intermittent fasting can do wonders for health but I don't know if I'm cut out for it. I have dyspepsia and need smaller meals spaced out, which would be hard to fit into a shorter time window.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am melinda:

@Doug thanks! I'll try to fast faster.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Doug Schulkind:

@melinda
When you're fasting, can you have a sloe gin fizz?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Phillippe Bastille:

@melinda it was a little risky for me since I have Type 2 diabetes, but dropping the weight was worth it. I've dropped 67 pounds since last Feb, and I'm nearly off all medications. My doc told me my A1C and fasting test were getting almost too low. My last visit I had my first problem-free blood test in about 30 years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Doug Schulkind:

@Phillippe Bastille
That is wonderful and inspiring! Well done, Sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Phillippe Bastille:

Thank you! It comes with costs, though -- I cut out all beverages that have calories, so it means I haven't had a cocktail in over a year. It was the most obvious thing to cut out, because I was usually shoveling food when I had a drink. It was an easy 500-700 calories to cut out. But I sure miss a nice glass of bourbon when I watch the sun go down or a G&T on the porch on a hot summer day..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am melinda:

@Phillippe that's amazing.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am doctorjazz:

@Phillippe Bastille/Melinda, I'm also doing intermittent fasting (and my wife). I didn't lose as much weight as Phillippe, about 10 lbs (but I didn't cut out as much as he did), but metabolically, my blood sugar and cholesterol improved dramatically, and my wife's labs, which had been more worrisome, did an even more dramatic improvement. Basically fast 16 hours, eat 8 hours (which means 1st meal noon to 1). Takes some getting used to, but not as bad as it sounds.
Avatar 10:07am Really Lisa:

Hey Phillippe B, hope you're well. Thanks for that welcome, Doug :) That's a boost!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Webhamster Henry:

This is pretty czechlophonic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Doug Schulkind:

HARPTASTIC!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Doug Schulkind:

The trumpeter on this track, Jaromír Hnilička, put down his horn and picked up the harp!
  10:10am Listener Gregory:

This sounds a bit like a soundtrack of some kind, with the contrasting moods in one piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Doug Schulkind:

At the very least, Listener Gregory, it sounds inspired by soundtrack music. I'm hearing the influence of Krzysztof Komeda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Phillippe Bastille:

@doctorjazz essentially the same schedule as me. I'd like to be able to start eating at about 10:00, but one of my sons that still lives with us doesn't get home from work until about 6:30, so dinner tends to run late. One thing that helped my resolve was that the diet coincided with a new residence. I absolutely adore where I am now, particularly compared to where we were before, so the positive outlook helped immensely. Easy to reinvent yourself when everything is different.
  10:13am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, yes, or Charles Mingus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am doctorjazz:

Pretty cool, these All Stars! 1966, this stuff got across the ocean pretty quickly.
  10:15am norman douglas:

that's an excerpt from Josef Skvorecky's essay "Red Music" (collected in his book Talkin' Moscow Blues), about how jazz in Czechoslovakia during the 1940s and 1950s seemed to pose a threat, first to the Nazi occupation, then to the Communist authorities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Doug Schulkind:

Hi everybody!
Avatar 10:45am bobdc:

I wonder if any Iveys fans considered Badfinger to be a poppy sellout?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Doug Schulkind:

Lyrics:

I had a sleep last night that scared me

Upon a strange and distant shore

And though I feel inside it can't be

I know that I've been there once before

I’ve never been there in the daytime
I might have been there in the night
But I’ve no doubt it was no playtime
In fact I’ve never known such right

I know that I have been there once before

Although it’s in the future I am sure

The flight were in a tight formation
Each model drops the ones before
Metallic bells in their migration
I know a few will fly no more

A supersonic flying delta
A flying fortress at its side
Spectators flee in holy terror
As they watch the two collide

I know that I have been there once before
Although it’s in the future I am sure
A day long second and they’re falling
A “---“ of smoke and then the flame
I hear the sound of voices calling , calling
  10:47am bigplanetnoise:

It’d be easy to call Badfinger a poppy sell-out, if they just weren’t so damn gooood!!
  10:48am Dean:

Eco-jazz or echo-jazz? If the former, as in Umberto Eco, a jazz of signs or a semiotics of jazz?

Join me at the top of the hour for (3+4=) SEVEN hours on the stream. First for Hinky Dinky Time at wfmu.org..., then for the Drummer Discotheque Grateful Dead dance concert at wfmu.org...

Be square and be there.

@String I have chronic fatigue and had gone a couple of years without any blood work so I was overdue. I'm ok with needles if I don't look.

Wow, with my recent success, I guess I ought to bow out now. Have to go on my walk while the sun shines, but not too much. Very entertaining show, Doug. Have a good weekend, everyone.

UM must be getting strapped into the nosecone right about now. He'll be checking the internet pressure, while waiting to hear from Houston.
