Hi, Mary, Wingnuts. Sorry I'm late!
  12:02pm Really Lisa:

Hi Mary, βrian, Handy H and everyone. Ready for whatever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Handy Haversack:

Mary, I just started prepping for editing the MS for that book by Dave Soldier that I mentioned! "The Most Unwanted Song" comes up in chapter 1, and I name-dropped you in a comment to reference the last time I heard it!

Hi, Really Lisa.
Avatar 12:06pm Mary Wing:

Hello Handy and Lisa! Whatever is happening now!
Swag For Life Member 12:06pm spodiodi:

aloha, Mary and good people!
Avatar 12:07pm Mary Wing:

Cool, Handy! When is it scheduled to be published?

Hiya spodiodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Handy Haversack:

Usually takes about seven months from this stage, Mary.

Avatar 12:18pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Mary, βrian, Handy, Really Lisa, spodiodi, Revolution Rabbit Nov63!
I bought this album by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, it's quite good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Webhamster Henry:

The Most Unwanted Song pops up about 30 times in the WFMU Playlist search. It was even more popular here when it came out in '97.
Avatar 12:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

you're welcome!! If you don't have one I think you'll have to create an account.
It's usually just Mimi and Alan, but sometimes Steve joins them. I think he's not around at the moment, they recently said he was in the studio laying vocals on new material they've been recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Handy Haversack:

Have you done a "Sweet Jane" 3OAK, Mary?
Avatar 12:41pm Mary Wing:

I was going to do a Sweet Jane 3oak this week, actually, but there were soooooo many versions. I couldn't deal with choosing among them, heh. It's on the list, though!
Avatar 12:42pm Hubig Pie:

Sweet Jane pairs well with many other tunes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Phillippe Bastille:

Happy Wotan'sday Whatever Folk !

LunaMoon is waning ...
New Moon will be on the 18th this month. The waxing (getting fuller & brighter like it's being waxed!) Moon is considered the time to start things you want to grow & come to fullness - as the witches & the gardeners know...
LunaMoon will enter chatty restless versatile Gemini @ 9:46 Eastern coming up this morning - where she'll be til Friday 19:35 Eastern.
The 90° Square between hot fiery red Mars - now in his own impulsive direct sign of Aries for an unusually long time! - & deep inexorable powerful Pluto now in serious practical earthy climbing Capricorn - has been building & is exact @ 3:14 A.M. Eastern early Thursday morning here. We've seen volcano action in Indonesia - & hopefully no major violence or power plays...
Maybe use that Gemini Moon to think, communicate & talk it out !

Hiya Michael 98145! Better than Sweet Jane, though?
Avatar 2:11pm Hubig Pie:

The first time I heard this was by Neko Case
Avatar 2:13pm coelacanth∅:

Phillippe @1.58 Life is complicated.
...so is it "de-clustered" or "un-clustered"? big difference.
or maybe it's ex-clustered?
...and, this is important: is it anti-cluster?

...and all oatmeal is cooked.

i have more complications if you'd like them.
Avatar 2:14pm david w:

Hello, Mary and all! I'm around, sweating it out. Love Harry!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Webhamster Henry:

Harry really loved Randy Newman and you can hear a little of that in this tune.
Avatar 2:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Newman did cross my mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Phillippe Bastille:

@coel these are all good questions, none of which I thought about. Though I beg to differ that oatmeal must be cooked to be "oatmeal", as the packages of uncooked oatmeal still say "oatmeal"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Handy Haversack:

Phillipe (2:07), you'll have to add honey and berries, duh.
Avatar 2:24pm Mary Wing:

Most uncooked foods keep their names, though. Spaghetti cooked or uncooked is the same name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Michael 98145:

just another reason i love this station
Avatar 2:27pm Hubig Pie:

If you cook cornmeal it becomes polenta
Avatar 2:28pm Mary Wing:

If you cook granola, does it become oatmeal?
Avatar 2:28pm Hubig Pie:

And yay Neko
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Phillippe Bastille:

That takes us back to the original question...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Handy Haversack:

Would Jonathan Fire*Eater have covered Nilsson?
Avatar 2:30pm coelacanth∅:

what was the original question?
Avatar 2:32pm coelacanth∅:

so, @2.23 no, what i meant was that oats are cooked in the process of making oatmeal. (boiled so they can be rolled)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Sorry I'm late, had to go to a meeting. Now I want to know what is the Most Unwanted Song.
Avatar 2:36pm Mary Wing:

Hi Lizzie! I played it a few weeks ago, it is awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Phillippe Bastille:

Sooo... what did I just eat? A bag marked "Granola" that only contained oats and dried strawberries, un-/ex-/de-clustered? To make matters more complicated, I ate it for lunch. Whichever, it's going back in the pantry...
Avatar 2:37pm Mary Wing:

Here is the playlist, from last month:
  2:39pm rw:

Making granola is on my To Do list for today.
  2:39pm rw:

You guys won't forget me, will you?
Avatar 2:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

So the real question is what is Granola. Sounds like aspirational Granola - or that Granola was a directional in terms of where it was intended to go...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Michael 98145:

( great title "A Beer With St. Peter, A Night With St. Nick" )
Avatar 2:42pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

granola is oven baked oatmeal with some source of sugar and fat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Ah I get it now. Thank Mary.
Avatar 2:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...aspirational Granola not meaning it's meant to be inhaled ...purely a presumption ...
Avatar 2:43pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

oven baked OATS not oatmeal, sorry
Avatar 2:43pm coelacanth∅:

haha Phillippe
...i'm eating oatmeal now and it's later here than there (if your there is your usual there)
  2:43pm rw:

The granola I make starts with rolled oats, oil and some kind of syrup baked at 300 degrees F for about a half hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Handy Haversack:

Hi, Lizzie!

Dave Soldier says that statistically there should be 200 people on the planet who like that song. All must be FMU listeners.
Avatar 2:44pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@rw every time I tried to bake my own I ended up with burnt or way too dry oats :-/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Phillippe Bastille:

I forgot -- who wrote this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Handy Haversack:

I think it's the Velvet Underground, Phillippe.
Avatar 2:45pm coelacanth∅:

i haven't tried to make granola in many years. i used to always burn it because i refused to add oil. duh.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Webhamster Henry:

I asked Dave if it weren't time to do a fresh survey. I have a feeing rapping sopranos backed with bagpipes and tubas would still be on the list.
  2:48pm rw:

Sylvia, here's my recipe: 4 cups rolled oats, 1/2 cup oil (peanut works well), 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup (or combination). Bake on sheet for 30 min. Cool 30 min. To the mix I add a good handful of nuts, some seeds, etc. I find that using parchment paper helps keep it from burning and makes cleaning up easier. Also experimenting with Agave syrup...
Avatar 2:48pm Mary Wing:

You did, Henry? What did he say??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Handy Haversack:

I love bagpipes and tubas!
Avatar 2:49pm coelacanth∅:

Sylvia, good luck with it! Parchment paper may solve your problem
  2:51pm rw:

Oh, bake at 300 F for 30 min.
Avatar 2:51pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@rw I almost always use parchment paper when baking
Avatar 2:51pm Mary Wing:

All Dave needs is an online form, I'd think. Much easier to poll folks than back in the '90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

Gotta run. Thanks Mary! Happy granola/muesli/oatmeal everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks @rw! next week, we can compare our granolas.
  2:54pm rw:

Fun "Most Unwanted" fact: the kids singing are Max & Kate who used to do reviews on WFMU's Greasy Kid Stuff show.

There were only 2 kids singing? Sounded like an entire choir!
