Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Matt from New Orleans:

Cool. I’m just glad I have power today. Yesterday I lost power from 2-5 PM and then from 7-7:30 as a transformer failed hours later after they replaced a downed line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm WR:

Doing Jeff G slot for a week or two?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Funky16Corners:

Brian! Doug! Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Funky16Corners:

Fortunately our power and internet have been stable since about Saturday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Brian in UK:

Larry is your home shaped like a stack of 45s?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Funky16Corners:

It ought to be. It is currently disguised as a ranch house
Avatar 3:05pm Sem:

Hey, Larry, and all.

Hey Sem!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Funky16Corners:

Wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Funky16Corners:

@WR- I'm covering Jeff's slot this Sunday
Avatar 3:09pm Erica:

Hey Larry welcome back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Funky16Corners:

Hi Erica!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Matt from New Orleans:

He was a Beach Boys lunatic in the 60s. They were his favorite band and probably still are. I was forced to see many different versions over my childhood. One incarnation even played at my beach club in Atlantic Beach at some point in the mid-80s. Definitely pre-Kokomo and Cocktail. They used to have Doo-Wop shows almost every weekend in the summer.
  3:13pm Little Danny:

Hi Larry ‘n’ all, installing a new water heater to your show this afternoon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Funky16Corners:

That's cool. My old man took me to see a lot of jazz and classical music when I was a kid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Danny! Good luck with the project!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm swivs:

HAPPY LARRY, ANNIVERSARY! (Belated)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Swivs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Funky16Corners:

@Doug - This was our first dance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Doug Schulkind:

All the kids think it's a Beyoncé tune, Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Funky16Corners:

That's CRAZY
  3:24pm Dean:

Will this be the first radio show ever to have hot running water?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Funky16Corners:

Uh, what?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Brian in UK:

Larry, you said it all. Got something in my eye!!

Dean, it has hot running love.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Charlie:

I love that DC5 song! Often get it stuck in my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Funky16Corners:

And, Hi Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - Me too...
Avatar 3:26pm Sem:

Hits from my early to mid teens? Is it Memorex, or yet another acid flashback?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Funky16Corners:

Oh, wait, I just got that. Danny's bringing the hot water
Avatar 3:28pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Hi Larry & listeners, busy here so won't make it to this board but listening all the same, I love your show. That Australia special was really good (was listening on a cycling trip). One more thing - thanks to that early 2000s(?) UK movie Morvern Callar I saw recently I realized how much I love this Mamas&Papas version of this song. That movie is awesome too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Photocopy! Glad you dug the Aussie sounds!
Avatar 3:29pm Erica:

Sorry you couldn't play this show last week due to the storm Larry. I'm sure Jennifer understands.
  3:30pm Little Danny:

That’s the idea, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Funky16Corners:

She does, Erica. She has to take our youngest son for a sleep stufy tonight and will be listening to the show in the archives.
Avatar 3:31pm Sem:

I see some unpleasantness there in Shrewsbury, BiUK. www.shropshirestar.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Matt from New Orleans:

Will every song be from the 60s?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Funky16Corners:

No, Matt, but a lot of them are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Funky16Corners:

Jenny wasn't born until 1970, so I had to go into the 70s a little
Avatar 3:33pm John from NP:

Hi Larry, been a while since I've been able to listen. Good to be back. I gotta check out the archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Funky16Corners:

Hi John!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Brian in UK:

Sem shocking behaviour.

First track on Randy's first album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Charlie:

Miss Lee sings Newman :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Funky16Corners:

She did a couple of his songs. He also arranged her big hit 'Is That All There Is'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Brian in UK:

Larry, was Donovan a bit star over your way?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm dutchtheo:

Happy twenty, Larry and Jenny! My turn to have some thunderstorms and/or general internet trouble. End of the longest heatwave, ever, in the lowlands
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Funky16Corners:

Yes, indeed. A bunch of hit songs through the 60s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Theo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Charlie:

Carmen! One of my fave singers. I luv this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Brian in UK:

dutchtheo, we had heat lightening two nights ago then torrential rain last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm doctorjazz:

Oh, I was on the wrong chat board (the next show is already up). Hi all, great set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Funky16Corners:

This is such a good album. Lots of great covers.
  3:39pm Dean:

We're celebrating an anniversary? Nice. Mine, too, hit 20 this year, and better half is vintage 1970.

Congratulations, and keep that hot running love flowing. (H/t Brian in UK)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Doug Schulkind:

I think I remember Beyoncé singing "At Last" at the Obama's first inauguration. Ah good times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm doctorjazz:

Happy 20. Larry!
  3:41pm CupcakeJenny:

I just want to say hi to everyone! I want to be able to listen in the hospital tonight! Xoxo Don’t I have the best husband ever???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Jenny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Michael 98145:

great tracks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Funky16Corners:

@Doug - It seems like a lifetime ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Funky16Corners:

@Jenny - This husband you speak of, is he bigger than me?
  3:42pm CupcakeJenny:

I’m in love with a “moron”...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Funky16Corners:

Ah, the classics!
Avatar 3:44pm Erica:

Hi Jenny! Why would you say that about the man who is giving you a music show as a gift?
  3:44pm CupcakeJenny:

I literally have the chat on without the music up so I don’t get spoilers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - It's a joke between us, reference to Animal House
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Funky16Corners:

Don't look at the playlist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm dutchtheo:

Brian, we had a record 8 days in a row above 30, and officially the wave will last probably a few more days with temps above 25, not too much rain though, yet..
Avatar 3:45pm Erica:

Oh okay Larry! Haha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Funky16Corners:

@Theo - I have to remind myself those temps are centigrade
  3:47pm CupcakeJenny:

Ohhhhhh animal House. Riiiiight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm dutchtheo:

yup somewhere between 95 and 100F
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Funky16Corners:

We had a super hot week a few weeks back.
  3:51pm Dean:

Heh, just checked online to see that Berkeley is currently 82F, but there's an "Excessive Heat Watch" warning. In fact, it pertains to cities further inland due to reach 90-108F.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Brian in UK:

At least no watering in the garden.

Some sad news, we lost a chicken yesterday. Poor thing was lying on her back in the coop this morning. I think that she literally fell off the perch.
  3:51pm Little Danny:

Getting older has meant learning to appreciate Little Feat. Not a young man’s group.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

@Danny - I went DEEP into Little Feat in the last few years. So good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

@Dean - This morning the humidity was so bad that the actual temp was 12 degrees below the real feel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - Sorry to hear about the chicken.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Matt from New Orleans:

Danny I’ve been going to see Little Feat live since I’ve been in my 20s so different strokes for different folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Funky16Corners:

My take on LF is that their overall sound is a very deep, very sophisticated mix of rock, country, funk and jazz that many people latch onto a small part of, but taking it all in takes a lot of time and musical maturity.
Avatar 3:56pm Jeff Ash:

Cannot go wrong with some Jackie DeShannon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Funky16Corners:

No you can't! Especially this one.
  3:57pm Little Danny:

Classic rock radio was all I had growing up so Little Feat felt like they were being shoved down my throat when all I wanted to listen to was the Jesus and Mary Chain. With enough distance I’ve come to enjoy a lotta that classic rock stuff. I still don’t like AC/DC tho.
  3:57pm Little Danny:

Good I love this Jackie D cut
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Matt from New Orleans:

For me as a jamband fan in the mid 90s, they fit right in with a lot of the bands who were influenced by them that I was into
  3:57pm CupcakeJenny:

Ok getting ready to take the boy. Love to all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Funky16Corners:

Bye Jenny! Text me when you guys get settled in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Brian in UK:

Guess that Jackie DeShannon was one of the first female writers/singers to express a woman's feelings in song.
  3:58pm Dean:

I saw LF only once, when they opened in the late '70s (with Lowell) for ELO. I wasn't a fan, but I knew their tunes from radio and in-store play at the record store where I was then working. I do recall feeling that I was in the presence of a very special ensemble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm doctorjazz:

When You Walk Into The Room, one of those songs great in any version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Funky16Corners:

I think one of the things that made LF special was the interplay between Lowell and Bill Payne, but it was also one of things that pulled them apart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm dutchtheo:

i like hot weather but you get exhausted after a while with the smog. Ah poor chicken, a dutch proverb is: "The sparrows fall dead from the roof by the heat", i had that experience yesterday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Funky16Corners:

I don't mind heat bit humidity sucks the life out of me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm doctorjazz:

Great Fairport!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Funky16Corners:

I talk a lot (too much) about my favorite records, but this is WAY up the list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm zivilars:

late as always, but at least almost still an hour to listen to live – hi everybody, thanks for the show, Larry!
  4:07pm Little Danny:

Man I love Rick/y Nelson’s voice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Zivilars!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Funky16Corners:

@Danny - Me too. I love his late 60s stuff on the way to country rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm zivilars:

that's a damn fine cover version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Funky16Corners:

You get to hear Randy Meisner sing backup right before joining the Eagles
Avatar 4:09pm Erica:

Sorry I was having internet problems on my end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Funky16Corners:

Everything OK now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm zivilars:

Everything fine here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm zivilars:

one of Bob's finest, always brings me in this great melancholic moods within seconds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Michael 98145:

he was so great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Funky16Corners:

It's weird to think of how many great love songs Bob wrote.
Avatar 4:14pm Sem:

True, that. Great show, Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Michael 98145:

ooh !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Brian in UK:

Swoon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Sem!
Avatar 4:16pm Erica:

This song makes me think of the Simpsons and those Cablevision bulletin boards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm WR:

Just occurred to me that my nephew is a Tulsa lineman. Just 175 miles from Wichita.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Charlie:

which couplet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Brian in UK:

Need you more than want you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Funky16Corners:

Yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm doctorjazz:

Got a tired clicky star finger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Charlie:

and I want you for all time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Funky16Corners:

Gotta put together a Jimmy Webb tribute sometime soon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Funky16Corners:

@Charlie - So much depth in such a few lines
  4:25pm Mark R:

I don't usually go in for big pop productions with strings and stuff, but I really, really love "Wichita Lineman," it's just a beautiful song, beautifully written, beautifully sung and beautifully arranged. I loved all the different versions of Dylan and then Dylan himself just slaughtering EVERYBODY. Liked that Ricky Nelson cut a LOT, sure didn't sound live, though. Finally, speaking of Little Feat about an hour ago, I was just listening to "Waiting for Columbus" yesterday, which has to be one of the greatest live albums, ever. Lowell was already gone by 1979, wasn't he?
Avatar 4:27pm Sem:

"Tensions within the group, especially between George, Payne, and, to a lesser extent, Barrere regarding musical direction and leadership, led to Payne and Barrere's departure from the group in 1979 and the group's subsequent disbandment." via wikithingy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Mark! I think Lowell passed in 1979, maybe right before the last album came out. The 45 mix of the Rock Nelson track says it's from the Live LP, but the audience noise is either mixed down or it's a different take.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Funky16Corners:

RICK NELSON...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Brian in UK:

S'funny with WL I never want to own it because I could play it whenever I wanted to. The joy of hearing it on the radio is the fact that someone else (the DJ) needs to hear it and the delight of the opening bars when you do not expect it.
  4:29pm Dean:

Mid-'79, yes, but he's on WfC, of course. A repeat story of mine: There's a stereo store down the road from me about four blocks. The proprietor is Warren Dewey, one of the engineers of WfC. I brought my copy of the Mobile Fidelity remaster to the store and we played it. Dewey remarked, "Wow, this is really good!" Then he told stories about recording it and then spending endless hours with George redoing solos and such.
Avatar 4:29pm Sem:

George:June 29, 1979
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Matt from New Orleans:

Wasn’t that what he was called on The Flintstones?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm doctorjazz:

Great Richard and Linda! (Richard is singing with a new female singer, at least in online performances I've seen. She's no Linda, though...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I know what you mean about hearing a song on the radio being its own, special thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Funky16Corners:

@Dean - That's cool! I love that album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Funky16Corners:

@Matt - Now I have to go back and see if he was on the Flintstones!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Funky16Corners:

@Doc - The Richard and Linda stuff is my favorite stuff from his career
  4:31pm Dean:

Dewey also has the original painting that graces the cover of the live album hanging in his store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Funky16Corners:

I hope he has it both tied down and insured!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm doctorjazz:

Larry, me too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Brian in UK:

Linda's voice on 'It Won't Be Long Now' album is still very good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Funky16Corners:

She was his perfect singing partner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Funky16Corners:

Thompson playing lead guitar on this track
  4:34pm Mark R:

Really loving the gentle folkiness of today's show. Somehow seems to suit the gloomy humidity of this Thursday in north Jersey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Mark. Equally gloomy/humid here in Central NJ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Matt from New Orleans:

I don’t think he was Larry. Just riffing on them having done similar and the extreme amount of rocks present in the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm doctorjazz:

Linda developed "spadmodic dysphonia", which, if I remember correctly, was thought to be psychological for a long time, but eventually found to be a physical, treatable problem, which allowed her to return to singing.
  4:39pm Dean:

This Lee is gorgeous, but still, don't miss Kiri Te Kanawa's take on her 1993 Kiri Sings Kern. The entire album...just radiant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Funky16Corners:

I'll look for that. This is one of my all time fave songs. By anyone.
Avatar 4:41pm Erica:

The show has become very peaceful now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Michael 98145:

beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, I love this one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm doctorjazz:

Gettin' misty eyed...sniff...
  4:43pm Mark R:

Peggy Lee deserves an encore. My dad used to have a great picture over his desk of he and Peggy at some club back in the 50s. My brother has it now, I got the one with Dad and Erroll Garner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Brian in UK:

Nilsson manages to carry off this album of standards much to my surprise. Thought his voice might not have enough ooomph.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Michael 98145:

Yes, Mr Thompson is still quite busy richardthompson.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm WR:

What'll I do, by Irving Berlin. Nilsson makes it so delicate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Funky16Corners:

@Mark - My Pop is a huge Peggy Lee fan. That's where I get it from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Funky16Corners:

@WR - It's a favorite song of mine, in any version. I love the melody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Brian in UK:

Larry, delightful show. Happy days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Michael 98145:

and Irma!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, great show Larry! Happy 20, Larry and Jenny!
