Listener comments!

  11:28am Listener Robert:

Saturday I heard Stephanie Joyner of the Skylands Songwriters Guild perform some of her country and bluegrass compositions solo at Wild West City. I recommend her and wonder if others here have heard her. She plays at least guitar and mandolin, and at least country, jazz, and classical; I forgot how many other genres she rattled off to me.
  11:30am Listener Robert:

I forgot to mention that she sings to them too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Irene Trudel:

That sounds cool, Robert! I'll check her out after today's show, which will be mostly jazz in honor of the Newport festival (and other outdoor music) that I would've normally attended this past weekend.
  11:34am Listener Robert:

I see she doesn't match any of the profiles I just found by that name on SoundCloud, and she may not have ever recorded a single note.
Avatar 🥁 11:36am Sean in Bristol UK:

Hey Irene, Hello one and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Irene Trudel:

Welcome to my little festival, Sean! Robert, if you find a link, let me know.
  11:59am Listener Robert:

I know it's not your style, but it would be fun if you "introduced the performers to the stage" today.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene, trust the stitches are out and everything is hunky dory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, Irene and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Festival in Irene's head! Someone make sure to sweep up the popcorn when this thing is over!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Irene Trudel:

Good Afternoon to you, Brian, james and Doug!
Avatar 🥁 12:07pm Sean in Bristol UK:

The great thing is that I have a great seat and I don't have to look over heads or shoved to the side while some lout barges their way to the front of the stage!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

Greetings, Irene and WFMU pals
  12:12pm Leonardo:

Will there be some kind of 'going electric' kerfuffle?
Avatar 🥁 12:13pm βrian:

We'll just let the chickens in for a few minutes, and the popcorn will vanish.
  12:15pm Listener Robert:

I don't know how Ms. Trudel would feel about chickens in her head. But maybe it's better than holding a vacuum hose onto your ear.
Avatar 🥁 12:16pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Listener Robert, would that be a good way of removing ear wax?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Irene Trudel:

You got that right, Sean! I am short in stature and always have the annoying big guys stand right in front of me. Greetings Mx. Granny, Leonardo and βrian. That "electric" kerfuffle is tagged to the folk festival. Jazz seems a bit freer generally (although not able to avoid its own kerfuffles over time).
Avatar 🥁 12:29pm βrian:

Django always makes me feel nervous, cuz I'm way behind on my tables, and people are pouring in the door, and this is the 12th time that track has looped today.

Oh well.
  12:30pm Leonardo:

Oh yes, jazz. Hmm...maybe Chuck Berry turning up and rocking out.
Avatar 🥁 12:40pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Please forgive me dear listeners but I have run out of superlatives on how awesome and dear to my heart this show is. So this is a new world superlative, Irene is Queen Elizabeth 1 and I am Walter Raleigh. 'Majesty, I bring a potato from the new world to go along with the one I bought over a few weeks ago, may I suggest before you remove my head I mash up said potatoes and I can reach out to a shepherd I know who can put some of his produce and we can create a pie in your honour, not sure what we can call it though. I might be off kilter here ut this pie is in your honour, ma'am' Again profuse apologies for my slightly Pyhtonesque ramblings!
Avatar 🥁 12:41pm βrian:

My wife just piped up: "Damn, I love her voice!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Irene Trudel:

Sean, you're making me blush! (But thank you.) βrian, I think Cecile is amazing and so inventive. Can't wait to hear what she does next.
Avatar 12:44pm northguineahills:

Well, I missed the Mutek festival in Montreal which I used to go to annually, but at the time I was unemployed, and I'm in FL, so it was unlikely to make it anyways....
Avatar 12:44pm northguineahills:

Still never got a chance to go to Victoriaville....
Avatar 🥁 12:45pm βrian:

Suddenly the posture of all the nearby men improves radically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Irene Trudel:

ngh, I've never gotten to either festival. Someday!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

wonderful cover
Avatar 🥁 12:51pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Beautiful, beautiful track from Diana Krall
  12:55pm Listener Robert:

Oh, no! The stage collapsed!
  12:55pm Listener Robert:

Whew, that was a close one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Irene Trudel:

Yep, audio stage collapse! All better now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Webhamster Henry:

The Kidjo Remain In Light Live show was a fun experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Irene Trudel:

Diana Krall was a part of Joni Mitchell's 75th Birthday Celebration, performing a stellar cover of "For the Roses."
Avatar 1:01pm northguineahills:

I'm in FL and I haven't been to the beach since I lived in NYC. (I've been to a bar near the beach, but not really in the sand...
Avatar 🥁 1:03pm βrian:

Friends just got back from the Michigan side of Lake Michigan. Talk about beautiful beaches!
Avatar 🥁 1:07pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Happy days, Irene, what time my love for the extra show?
Avatar 1:08pm Stork:

Hey Irene and all aboard!
Avatar 1:10pm northguineahills:

Did William Hooker ever play at Newport?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Irene Trudel:

βrian, I've never been to Michigan but hear it's beautiful. Welcome Stork! Sea, our fill-in show is this coming Saturday 2-5pm EDT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Irene Trudel:

ngh, I don't know. He did quite a few WFMU sessions that I engineered (and he released them as albums, unknown to us beforehand),
Avatar 🥁 1:15pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Perfecto time, will be in my Tesco van doing my deliveries while I have your awesome show playing through the speakers, happy days!
Avatar 1:18pm Stork:

This Nocholas Payton reminds me a bit of Ben Neil's sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Irene Trudel:

Stork, I think you're right about Payton, although he's more of a traditional jazzer in some respects.
Avatar 🥁 1:23pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Robert Glasper,,thank you Irene!
Avatar 1:25pm northguineahills:

@Stork: I'm a huge fan of Ben Neil and his mutantrumpet. I once went to go dj an ambient/techno party, and found out that Ben Neil was playing live. Needless to say I was flabbergasted....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm doctorjazz:

Hi Irene and all you listeners! Like this Matana Roberts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Irene Trudel:

Ben Neill is really great and did play live on WFMU over the years. It's long past time for me to revisit his music. Hey doctorjazz!
Avatar 1:50pm northguineahills:

had to miss Mantana Roberts due to work. Saw her once in Phil Niblock's loft...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Irene Trudel:

Matana is amazing. You really need to catch her in concert if you get a chance. Can't explain it well in words, but it's a healing experience.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Michael 98145:

Likey nubyagarcia.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Michael! What I've heard on album is a little over-produced for my tastes but Nubya is a major talent!
Avatar 🥁 1:59pm Sean in Bristol UK:

so after a marvellous BBQ its time to take my love of my life out for a walk, of course I will be still tuned via the awesome WFMU app but the pup in question is the picture of my avatar. So this got me thinking, I was wondering what names you add on to your pets? Lola is her monica but my add lib names are schibbly (School of Rock for that one), bo-boos, fruit bat and plum tucket! over to you Irene, you must have a few plus over to the rest of you awesome listeners. I know, not music themed but it will be fun to find out
Avatar 🥁 2:01pm βrian:

We sometimes refer to our cat as Mr. Barfy. But he's also the Orange Man.
Avatar 🥁 2:03pm βrian:

And OMG means he's in the garden, usually lounging in the shade of the tomatoes.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Michael 98145:

uh oh. stream drop ...
Avatar 🥁 2:06pm βrian:

The Russians are messing with the stream again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Irene Trudel:

Whoopsie! Hope the drop-out wasn't long. Cat-wise, we have Mister Mushy, who definitely is a smoosh-able kitty (and so sweet).
Avatar 🥁 2:21pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Last pet themed comment. Lola has a Mets coat which I swear she isn't keen on, it's blue, not her colour plus a Mets squeaky baseball called 'baba baseball' plus those really annoying magnets you see on cars, mine is 'my dog is a Mets fan' and 'bark for the Mets'. You can imagine the puzzled looks here in England!!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning (-ish), Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Irene Trudel:

BTW, found the link to Shabaka Hutchings set with Nubya Garcia here: youtu.be...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Michael 98145:

Great set.
Avatar 2:25pm Stork:

ngh: Ben did a set on the old Stork Club - almost 25 years ago(!) and it was amazing how he did everything live with electronics. He was sampling himself in eal time, but not using any extra inputs or fancy software.
Avatar 2:26pm Stork:

That there was my kinda set!!!
Avatar 🥁 2:26pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Epic set
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 🥁 2:33pm Sean in Bristol UK:

I want to see The Creem doc, fingers crossed I can stream this side of 'the pond'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Irene Trudel:

Sean, you should be able to stream it. Let me know if you have any problems with it.
Avatar 2:37pm Stork:

This is a great theme for a show, Irene - and so exquisitely executed! I hope it gives you a little solace from missing the in-person thing this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Stork! It does help-- lots of great memories to draw from.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Stork! Will you be back on the Drummer stream soon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Irene Trudel:

Summer and Michael and Sylvia, Stork has a show every Sunday at noon, live from Germany.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Michael 98145:

Love this song. Yes.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Thanks, Irene! We missed it on the schedule somehow - we'll tune in!
Avatar 🥁 2:54pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Huge fan of Bond themes, this ticks all boxes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Irene Trudel:

Michael, this live performance was the perfect end to the 2015 festival for us and our friends attending. And this will be the the end of my GTDR Festival in my head. Hope you all were transported to a favorite festival of your own. Catch you next week!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Michael 98145:
