Throughout the 90s there were so many late night culture programmes on Channel 4 here in the UK (back when Channel 4 was edgy and interesting) and a lot of it was reporting from New York (Club Kids, art etc). This is definitely ringing bells for me. :-)

	♥ 2:18pm Rich in Washington: I was a huge fan of the band Shockabilly, from which Bongwater came out of. Their first EP was and still is a favorite. Then Bongwater really got me into Ann.

	♥ 2:22pm Rich in Washington: I once did an all Shockabilly show on KBOO and someone kept calling, really irate that The Beatles and Creedence would be covered so irreverently. He eventually not only threatened to stop pledging money to the station, but also threatened to burn the station down. I told Eugene about this and he seemed to think it was a fairly typical reaction.

	♥ 2:32pm Rich in Washington: A couple of years ago Mykel Board did this thing were if you mailed him something like $5, he'd stick as many 7" records as he could in a prepaid mailer. I did it a couple of times and got a bunch of ART/Artless (etc.) 7"s, plus random 45s from his collection.
	2:32pm Mr Fab: There was a store that used play Wild Man Fischer to clear out the customers. Of course, had the opposite effect on me.

	♥ 2:34pm Rich in Washington: When I was going to school and living with a bunch of goofballs, our house parties would sometimes go on a little too long and we'd put Butthole Surfers Live Bootleg, side four on and people would slowly drift on home.

	♥ 2:37pm Franco Twinkie: Some time in the early-mid 80's the painter Kenny Scharf had his first one man show in Los Angeles at Larry Gagosian, which was on Robertson Blvd. at the time. The day I went to see it, the only two people in the gallery were Kenny and Ann. I just walked up to Kenny who was fooling around with a video camera and started blabbing. One of his early pieces was a Cadillac that he had painted up real nice. It was parked in the gallery. I was bugging him with all kinds of questions so he said "Why don't you film me in front of the car?" I said sure! and took the camera. At one point I looked over at Ann who was sitting in a chair wearing a short skirt and knee high black boots. She had her legs crossed and was wiggling her leg back and forth staring at me with a curious look that seemed to say "Who let you in. and when are you going to leave?" I can still see it in my mind all these years later.

July 31, 2020: ANN MAGNUSON SOUND COLLAGE / BONG SONGS AND BEYOND
Ann Magnuson is an Artist, Activist, Singer, Writer and Actor who is known for her psychedelic skewering of societal norms. Starting out in thfe underground cabaret clubs of 1980s New York, she explored the murky places in between the wacky, obscene and poignant. Her band Bongwater managed to use the framework of 1960s counter culture to hold a mirror to the horrors of AIDS, Reagan and Evangelical lies. Ann also has a career as a mainstream actress, and is featured in many films and television shows including a notorious small role getting killed by david bowie in The Hunger. She is still making amazing music and monologues, including a youtube series called "2020 WTF" and currently has roles on the television show "picard" and "Man in the High castle." This is a tribute to Ann, a sound collage pulled from different moments of her career. Every excerpt chosen here is either performed, written by Ann Magnuson/ bongwater or is a song that she covered. Through her art, Ann has introduced me to a wide variety of formative favorites like 13th floor Elevators, notorious J and H productions tape and even Little Markie.

Throughout the 90s there were so many late night culture programmes on Channel 4 here in the UK (back when Channel 4 was edgy and interesting) and a lot of it was reporting from New York (Club Kids, art etc). This is definitely ringing bells for me. :-)

	♥ 2:22pm Rich in Washington: I once did an all Shockabilly show on KBOO and someone kept calling, really irate that The Beatles and Creedence would be covered so irreverently. He eventually not only threatened to stop pledging money to the station, but also threatened to burn the station down. I told Eugene about this and he seemed to think it was a fairly typical reaction.

	♥ 2:37pm Franco Twinkie: Some time in the early-mid 80's the painter Kenny Scharf had his first one man show in Los Angeles at Larry Gagosian, which was on Robertson Blvd. at the time. The day I went to see it, the only two people in the gallery were Kenny and Ann. I just walked up to Kenny who was fooling around with a video camera and started blabbing. One of his early pieces was a Cadillac that he had painted up real nice. It was parked in the gallery. I was bugging him with all kinds of questions so he said "Why don't you film me in front of the car?" I said sure! and took the camera. At one point I looked over at Ann who was sitting in a chair wearing a short skirt and knee high black boots. She had her legs crossed and was wiggling her leg back and forth staring at me with a curious look that seemed to say "Who let you in. and when are you going to leave?" I can still see it in my mind all these years later.
