This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

@chresti, Gary: he did quite a few in this vein -- both more loose w/ the brushstrokes & with a sort of conflated sense of landscape/underwater-ness. here's my favorite: lh3.googleusercontent.com...

@gary: imo it has a lot in common with very early Dali or certain early-mid Miro, in terms of those particular brush strokes. probably a lot of Masson in there as well, at least in a way

Yep, shares elements of Dali and Miro, for sure. It's been so long since I've spent quality time with Surrealist painters. More recently, I enjoyed a collection featuring works by Raphael (my favorite painter, perhaps?) and his contemporaries.

Avatar 8:27pm
Flash Strap:

i know, but supposedly there is nonetheless contention around this - that's the wrong link btw
  8:29pm
Dean:

Harpsichords take a bad rap. They're gorgeous instruments. One of the many musical highlights of my life was hearing Ton Koopman performing on my then boss's harpsichord in his home. And I might argue that *the finest recording ever on vinyl* is a recital on harpsichord of Goldberg Variations on a label supported by Yves-Bernard Andre's marvelous tube gear.

Link is to a Fleetwoods's box.

Not sure Bebey had such a phase exactly – it's not all that different from certain work he'd always been making – I wonder if you're thinking of Onyeabor who did have a head-on with evangelism

i struggle with a lot of Schmidt & Kumo because I don't much fancy that drum&bass sound but every time Schmidt returns to the Gormenghast theme it's back on for me and I love it

Doug Schulkind:

Our WFMU colleague Rob Weisberg once interviewed Francis Bebey backstage during intermission of a concert (I believe at Carnegie Hall) and Bebey denied any knowledge of the Pygmy Love Song Lp.
