Heya Mary und Leuten.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Handy Haversack:

Hi, Mary! Hi, Wings.
Avatar 12:02pm Sem:

Are there other groups named for parts of the guitar?
Triple dinging hours are here, Mary. Along for the outcome, for good or whatever.
Avatar 12:03pm Mary Wing:

Hello Brian, S&M&S, Carmichaelm Handy, and Sem! Stretch out and relax to 53 more minutes of this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, Mary and nomadic streamers. Marathon premium idea: Band names that are body parts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Handy Haversack:

Like the Frogs! Good idea, Ken!
Avatar 12:05pm Mary Wing:

There is a band called Silversun Pickups, does that count, Sem?
Avatar 12:06pm Sem:

Humbuckers would be better, but sure, wth.
Avatar 12:06pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Ken! Just the body part as a name, or ones that include a body part? eg.: Necks vs. Long Neck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm ParUbi:

Hey Mary, everyone!

Brian, gah, trying not to think about him to be honest. However, in other respects things are AOK thanks. My elderly car “sailed through” its road worthiness test today, it’s sunny and Mary Wing is setting the controls for the heart of the groove.

@Mary. I know, right? Also in the just learned department, I did not know the German Chocolate Cake was named after a baker who's last name was German, and not the country.

Now Not Appearing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi just a lack of proofing on my part -- should've been Ask Reddit (though I'm working on a system design report that is discussing AWS vs Azure, so maybe it was less accidental than I'd like to believe).
Swag For Life Member 12:33pm spodiodi:

Hubig, some of us are fancy-character-challenged *sobs* (at leat on my ubuntu machines, i am anyway) -- macs are easiest. windows is still easier than ubuntu
Swag For Life Member 12:34pm spodiodi:

haha -- thanks, Phillippe. that makes sense

I think someone tried to use Adverse Camber, but Reverse Camber threatened to sue them.
Swag For Life Member 12:34pm spodiodi:

so to all of you fancy character folks, i'm not snubbing (and not AS lazy as you may think) -- it's just too hard :~(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Handy Haversack:

I for one look forward to Adverse Camber selling out Hammersmith Odeon for six nights in a row!
Avatar 12:35pm Hubig Pie:

Spod - I can do Spanish language accents, but that's as creative as this keyboard gets
Avatar 12:36pm βrian:

I even use accents when I text. I mean, Il faut !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Phillippe Bastille:

Some Electrelane would go nice now
  12:37pm David in London:

Six nights at Hammersmith? Wow, things are moving fast. I hope the Slummingbirds are ready in time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Ike:

My quick and dirty solution for special characters is simply to search for them and then copy-and-paste. Is that cheating?
Swag For Life Member 12:37pm spodiodi:

macOS is simple as holding whichever key down, then selecting from the variants which appear. Windows requires memorization *gasp* and extra keystrokes. ubuntu is a f'ing nightmare for 'em
Swag For Life Member 12:38pm spodiodi:

Ike, yes. i cheat regularly too :-B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Phillippe Bastille:

I just copy and paste the name from the comment. At least when I remember to.
Swag For Life Member 12:39pm spodiodi:

i mention macOS because i keep running into people who aren't aware
Avatar 12:39pm βrian:

Swag For Life Member 12:39pm spodiodi:

In windows 10, you can also install other keyboards, if international characters are your bag 这很容易
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Phillippe Bastille:

I'm looking at a dead Mac and dead MacDell on the floor of my office at the moment (the MacDell is a Dell with a Mac sticker on it. Confuses the hell out of people)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Handy Haversack:

I picture the screwdriver still in your hand, Phillippe, the sound of sirens, blue lights reflecting off the cracked and shattered screens ...
Swag For Life Member 12:42pm spodiodi:

lol i had/ve a MacDell (or a hackintosh, when it's set up that way. right now it's just running win10 and ubuntu20)
Avatar 12:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well 2nd hand laptop died here
...so if I can peck out about half the right words on my tracFone I'm calling it a fine Blorbsdsy...
Swag For Life Member 12:42pm spodiodi:

i have intel stickers on ... a few things. like helmets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm ParUbi:

Every time I need to replace a system, I can't afford to get a macOS, but hackintosh might be a solution
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Handy Haversack:

The WFH transition to a Windows laptop without a number keypad is super frustrating for special characters. I had so many memorized!
Swag For Life Member 12:44pm spodiodi:

it can be a mild hassle, but worth it if you're in a pinch or just bored
Swag For Life Member 12:45pm spodiodi:

  12:53pm rw:

AW, I got mine yesterday! This new sticker is cool. Maybe a little too cool for my car.
  12:53pm David in London:

Phillippe, the car. And your missus needs one on hers, too, whatever she might unconvincingly claim right now.

Avatar 12:55pm Hubig Pie:

I slapped the new sticker on my sno skis
Swag For Life Member 12:55pm spodiodi:

Phillippe -- i once had a kid stop crossing the street, in the middle of the street, to get a look at my scooter, and ask me, as i stopped to avoid hitting him "what happened to your scooter?!?" lol
it's pretty ratty
Swag For Life Member 12:56pm spodiodi:

where do you ski, Hubig?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm fred:

Good afternoon Mary and listeners
Swag For Life Member 12:57pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Phillippe Bastille:

@DiL she just doesn't understand. @spodiodi The convertible has 170K miles on it, and since convertible miles are like dog years, that translates into 1,190,000 miles. Almost matching orange peel paint on the hood, front splitter that is actually split, burnt plastic on the rear bumper from when the exhaust bracket got bent, 21 year old convertible top... "fortunately" during one of the many treasure hunts for the source of an electrical problem we found the body was being held on the back of the chassis with 2 remaining spot welds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm fred:

@spodiodi: French mac keyboards are hell for coding in C/C++. But the secret code with all things Apple is to give up your credit card number, then everything is easy, or so I heard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Andrew Waterloo:

I think I bought the last tour 7" from the last PJ Harvey tour
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy funny story: my son's doberman/beagle mix will stand like a statue whenever you affix anything to her. We tied a helium birthday balloon to her harness once and she stood stock still for 15 minutes. Those brave dobermans...
Swag For Life Member 1:01pm spodiodi:

it's cool (at least) that you can ski more easily now. 2 miles is nice!

Franco! Kate loved your e-mail this morning -- she had to get up early so I eased her into the day by reading her your wonderful message.

Really glad you like it, friend.

Hey, Lizzie!

Phillippe, our previous dog had a flat enough head and a mellow enough soul that I could sometimes use him as a drinks table.
Swag For Life Member 1:06pm spodiodi:

fred: credit card? i just gave them my dna to make buying easier ;) coincidentally, i have two french IBM TouchPoint keyboards (because i found them on ebay, and i love those little nubs) I've never tried using them as actual french keyboards, but feel more worldly while pecking at their fany keys :D

what's the most challenging part? (suppressing accents? tyipng pipes or tildes?)
Swag For Life Member 1:07pm spodiodi:

Phillippe: i must know the make/model (for my stalkerbase)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm fred:

@βrian: windows, linux, mac, iOS, android, I hate them equally and will code for all. I pretend I'm a Solaris guy (I did like it, but the main perk was that anyone who had it at home wasn't going to ask me to help with their printer)

Swag For Life Member 1:10pm spodiodi:

Avatar 1:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

No - but the Disproportionally Extended Vibrato Appendices composed surprisingly economical tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Handy Haversack:

Oh, wow, the Whammy Bar in Knoxville! I think I would go to that. How could I resist going to that?

spod, there's an apposite xkcd, but I can't remember its number. It's printed out and pinned to my bulletin board at work.
Swag For Life Member 1:13pm spodiodi:

hubig... that's quite the trade-off -- do you get back down there much?
Swag For Life Member 1:14pm spodiodi:

Handy, i'd love to see it. xkcd is too funny
Avatar 1:14pm βrian:

You need a work cam, Handy, so you can check in late at night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Handy I feel for you with that keyboard. My work gave us a good WFH set of a monitor, mouse, keyboard but the keyboard is annoyingly loud and intended for a PC not a Mac. I hate to complain but.... I'm complaining!
Avatar 1:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

i've never seen the sand bar, but i bet it was real (or i like to imagine as much when i hear that song)
Avatar 1:18pm Franco Twinkie:

Thanks Handy. I realize my message last night was a little hyperbolic, but I meant to covey my enthusiasm in no uncertain terms. I started blasting Creek & Kills this morning at 6:30, and have not let up. Pajama aerobics with fists in the air, truly.
Swag For Life Member 1:19pm spodiodi:

Hubig, have you ever had any food shipped up? i'd considred ordering crawdads online before (and i think we maybe bought some beignet mix online once too)

how is your little trcuk in the snow? pretty good, i imagine
Avatar 1:20pm Sem:

Hi, spod'di. My great-uncle Louie in Cape Breton had joint called The Sand Bar, named for a local sea feature.
He's more famous for organizing a Blackshirt march amongst Italian coalminers and steel workers---down the main street of Sydney, Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. Spent the remainder of the war years in a prison camp in Northern Ontario.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Handy Haversack:

Lizzie, they have offered to get me many such things. We run up against a size constraint. I live in a four-room railroad apt. There's just no space for more monitors and the like. I haul this laptop around on a 50' Ethernet cable so I can go outside with it when it's not 10 million degrees (i.e., not these past two weeks). But I can't fit standing desk or monitor stand or anything like that anyplace. And if I did, the cats would wax wroth and restore the natural order.

Franco, that is the absolute BEST! Kate says: "Creek and Kills likes hyperbole!" She's honored that you like it. New single coming next week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm fred:

@RRN63: There are two: Apple will take the clothes off your back, Linux will have you tearing the clothes off your back. Windows doesn't count anymore, but Microsoft will take your half-ripped rags, that's all they get these days
Swag For Life Member 1:22pm spodiodi:

Sem: that's really interesting! i'd be proud. what a cool great uncle! to The Sand Bar, organizing, and action! (i'm going to read up on things you've mentioned) thank you!

Foobar has a wonderful script feature that makes editing tags quite pleasant.. they also have same really nice file operations in the rmb menu. Clementine comes close, but the copy operation doesn't grab the extra file in the folder the way Foobar does.

  2:47pm David in London:

I think Big Black need to reform and cover this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Carmichael:

I think it's not a cover, but a "version".
Avatar 2:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I like them all better than the Rhiannon - not knowing it all. Or did I? Hard to tell after 10 of them...
Avatar 2:49pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Carmichael @2:48 right
Avatar 2:50pm Mary Wing:

Yes, I think "version" is the best adjective when the writer sings it.
Avatar 2:51pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

on another occasion, we could have Rihanna's "Diamonds" and the great cover by Josef Salvat :)
Avatar 2:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The virgin version.
You always do more than three - have to change it to Like a Version - except I'm sure people have been all over that no doubt....
