A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Goya's "Fight With Cudgels" mentioned a while ago. That image is in my phone photos. I don't remember where I got it, but I think I acquired it to show it to someone else as analogous to the behavior of others at the time. Was it characters in personal or political sphere? Can't recall. But SOOOOOOOO often relevant.

Being Liberal by definition means being more tolerant of diverse views - so our challenge is making a united front for our effective power.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am YETI BOB:

@HH: Oh, its not too complicated. you have to get the .PLS file from the website, then just: mpg123 -b 1024 -@ WFMU.pls

the -b 1024 is what made the skips go away for me - or else the problem was fixed upstream. hard to know.

I have a little more scripting to handle show & song titles but the player command is really simple.

there are more of us. by far. remember much of the commentary in the internet is fake. for one thing, there are large foreign sponsored military teams promoting dissention and dispair in the usa and elsewhere to gaslight you. so don’t buy into anything without yr own wider research.

Avatar 10:44am still b/p:

Hostilities and characteriizations over who or which side is listening/not listening, tolerant/intolerant, cancelling/not cancelling can seem quite like Francisco's cudgel swingers. And can get into confounding spirals, even on one "side"....a large group submits a letter to Harper's on justice and tolerating diverse views, then other figures challenge the posture, politics or premise of the writers or signers, and some original signers disavow it...
It's the marketplace of ideas -- good. But sure can git trying and tangled.

Speaking of believing internet biz, people fell for the big Twitter-hack scam yesterday and sent money to prominent figures thinking they'd get the promised double-money or bitcoin back! Shouldn't be surprising, but forehead still takes a slap.

redbee (@10:34): Years ago at work I was tasked with sourcing a bunch of logos for certain Brazilian snack and soft-drink brands. One of these brands had the name Sensações. So, like an idiot, I type "Sensações Brazil" into Google, and there followed what I can only describe as an avalanche of asses. Now, this was an open-office environment, and my spontaneous reaction was to let out a yelp, jump up, and hug my monitor till I unplugged it. I frantically called IT to assure them I wasn't looking at Brazilian asses on company time.

Its not by accident that Investigative Reporting has been defunded, dismantled - in fact vilified.
Converesely Billy Bragg is Commenting on New Media & Youth - & a culture gap of ACCOUNTABILITY. Pardon the emphasis - but it's a critical word.

Mariano, I few years our company firewall went on the blink. I was chatting to the IT Director in the wake of its resuscitation, and the volume of porn that had apparently been downloaded in the meantime was truly Biblical.
Avatar 10:53am βrian:

But isn't all porn biblical?
Avatar 10:54am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Just say Know.

@Trouble, and listeners, I forgot to say hello earlier, sorry, my bad. I don't always comment on shows I listen to, or that would be the only thing I could get done during daytime

David: Lol! When the cat's away, the mice will download porn.

I had been getting myself used to the idea that sheep and wool was going to be cancelled well before they announced it. That and the Renaissance Faire.
Avatar 11:13am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@David (in London) Hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Trouble:

@sugarwolf:i am very sad about sheep and wool, it's going to hurt a lot once october comes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am redbee:

One of my colleagues had been so excited about her upcoming first Rhinebeck visit that she asked all the way back in February if she could carpool with me in October. It'll be a tough autumn without it to look forward to!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Trouble:

not one to keep up on the foolishness that the resident in the WH partakes in, i just found out that if you need a fine fine latinx food company i recommend La Morena. Of course making your own mole is also an option. just ask dj icepack...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am redbee:

@sugarwolf I really feel for the vendors! I'm sure they count on these festivals so much. Hopefully they'll figure out a fun way to get online sales, like you mentioned
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Trouble:

looks like everything is fine on our end, via my convo with matt about the dropouts. so it is an internet thang
Avatar 11:24am TDK60:

Definitely boycotting Goya which is prominent in local supermarkets; large Latinx community here. (NYC)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am YETI BOB:

@trouble: right - you had reports from FM listeners that there were no hiccups - that proves connection from you to WFMU is fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am David (in London):

Getting a few small patches of drop-out here in London. Nothing serious, but the odd couple of seconds here and there.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am David (in London):

mariano, I had the rare pleasure of seeing Toussaint play here in London in 2006. In a cream double-breasted suit, he was cool as ice. Hit after bloomin' hit. I was whistling 'Southern Nights' for about a month afterwards. Damn, I'm glad I seized that opportunity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am redbee:

this version vs. The Space Lady's classic cover? tough call

This is not the version that Marty McSorley plays. Still good, though.
