Avatar 12:13pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 12:13pm Mary Wing:

Aw, man, is today Ian Curtis' birthday? I guess I know who next week's 3oak will feature.
  12:13pm Really Lisa:

Hi Mary and everyone.
Hope all is as well as can be.
Avatar 12:15pm Mary Wing:

Howdy coelacanth and Lisa! I'm doing well enough for a day when taxes are due and I haven't even started, heh.
  12:16pm David in London:

Handy, I never canoe. I have people to canoe for me.

Hey Rev, Sem, Coelacanth.

Mary, first thing I did when I moved to Manchester many years ago was go to Macclesfield and see his grave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm maestroso:

Trad.Attack! Great album. Hi Mary Wing!
Avatar 12:16pm coelacanth∅:

shit,taxes are due?
oh well, that ain't happening.
Avatar 12:18pm Mary Wing:

David, is Curtis' grave all littered up from fans, like Jim Morrison's?
Avatar 12:19pm Mary Wing:

Hi there maestroso! Yes, Trad.Attack are from Estonia and they rock!
Avatar 12:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

What outstanding company.
I feel like the Drummer stream has an older & more comfortable couch & stuff...
Avatar 12:20pm Hubig Pie:

I'm probably wrong , but I think Ceremony has the most covers.

Good morning!

Work got postponed today. Waiting for the results of a CV-19 test of an employee. So I might just get my taxes in on time!

So far 100% is batting 1000.

We filed ours on Monday -- and then Kate realized she had forgotten to include last year's unemployment payments. So ... yeah.

I had totally forgotten having earned $600 for being on TV! I'm a star!

I mean - Roky & Ian same B-Day...
Avatar 12:22pm Sem:

Hello, David in London.

Haven't heard last week's show yet, Mary. Surprises?
  12:22pm David in London:

Mary, it wasn’t at that time, but that was over 30 years ago. It’s quite a simple affair.
Avatar 12:23pm Mary Wing:

Good morning rw! I'm surprised that they aren't doing a 14-day quarantine for all of you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Handy Haversack:

David, another question for our far-flung correspondent: Has Mark E. Smith's grave become a site of pilgrimage?

Avatar 12:29pm Mary Wing:

Hello Hubig! Maybe I'd use Ceremony, maybe something less covered.
  12:29pm rw:

Mary, I only go in to this place once a week and am rarely in contact with others. I'm pretty sure I'm safe but am curious to find out the details. They're overly cautious at this place. Could be someone just had a runny nose. I'll let you know. Hopefully you guys won't all have to quarantine if it turns out I've got it.

Hiya Dougg!

Avatar 12:32pm Mary Wing:

Hey there Carmichael and Phillippe! Taxes all done, fellows?
  12:32pm David in London:

Mary, being back in the capital these days I don’t know, but I will ask my local sources and get back to you on that one. I did once find myself standing next to him in the Henry Royce pub in Hulme, but I decided not to talk to him and risk an ear lashing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey Handy, DiL, Hubig, Coel et. al.

Avatar 1:03pm Mary Wing:

i wonder if Bandcamp is going to do their waive revenue every month from now on? Seems like it is really helping the artists.
Avatar 1:04pm Mary Wing:

Hey there, Roberto! Yeah, that Swamp Dogg album is fine music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Handy Haversack:

Me, too, Mary. Have not heard about August yet. Kate hasn't seen any confirmation either.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Handy Haversack:

This sounds great. Much better than the Gamilons. It's hard to imagine a gamelan wanting to destroy the Earth.
Avatar 1:29pm coelacanth∅:

david (@1.13) maybe Kenzo's actions are being controlled by the tralfamadorians

Ah but there are many shadowpuppet tales with monsters whut have Live gamelan soundtracks - some go all night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Andrew_in_WI:

Is this on Important Records?
  1:37pm Dean:

That Oliveros/Gamelan Son of Lion track is not from the album to which you linked, which features Berkeley Gamelan Ensemble, not GSoL. Perhaps this is the recording?

Avatar 1:37pm Mary Wing:

Hello fred, Ike and Andrew! Welcome to today's whatever!
  1:39pm Dean:

Parenthetically, I'll add that an electrician who did some work at my place a couple years ago is also a member of Berkeley Gamelan Ensemble.
Avatar 1:40pm Mary Wing:

HI Dean! I simply don't know! And the CD-R is in the station's library so I can't compare the covers. The running times are not the same, either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning (-ish), Mary!

Hi all. Lovely Oliveros / Gamelan collaboration. A treat.
Avatar 1:43pm βrian:

Oh for some good metadata!
Avatar 1:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

One could certainly stage a shadowpuppet play of Gamera vs. Megalon accompanied by Gamelan. I'm all in.
  1:44pm David in London:

Coelacanth. Glad you like it man. If you DM me at daonamusic@outlook.com with your postal address, I’ll send you a CD copy gratis if you’d like one.
Avatar 1:45pm Mary Wing:

Hello Michael 98145 and S&M&S!

Seriously, Brian! I am thankful to whomever made the CD-R for the station, but hey, gimme some details!
  1:45pm David in London:

Man, this gamelan is just hitting every pleasure centre.
Avatar 1:46pm Mary Wing:

And hello WR! Gamelan is always welcome here!
  1:46pm P-90:

Oliveros’s “Lion’s Eye” is a classic. Nice to hear it this afternoon.
  1:48pm P-90:

I believe the companion piece was called “Lion’s Tale” (or “Tail”?)
Avatar 1:48pm dougseidel:

thanks for slowing down the clocks sonically
Avatar 1:50pm Mary Wing:

Howdy P-90, long time no see!

Happy to do time-shifting, dougseidel, glad it works for you!
Avatar 1:51pm coelacanth∅:

David, i bought the digital version ~20 minutes ago!
...i didn't pay much though. by necessity that's my m.o.; but if i like something enough to download it i wont take it for free -generally.
(lossless hard copies are my preferred way though)
Avatar 1:51pm Mary Wing:

I love this Macha album so much, it is not funny.
  1:52pm Dean:

http://www.sonoloco.com/rev/bvhaast/bv0201/soekarno.html

"[S]ome of the foremost American experimentalists sometimes indulge in gamelan, like Pauline Oliveros in her 'Lion’s Eye,' which I’ve heard performed by the Gamelan Ensemble Son of Lion on a private recording from the premier in a church at Washington Square, New York in 1985."
Avatar 1:52pm coelacanth∅:

-for some reason my bandcamp profile picture isn't showing up under the album art though -even though the album has appeared in my collection.
hmmm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm fred:

Maybe Webhamster Henry made that CD-R? He probably knows more about this recording anyway (Oliveros and Gamelan should be right up his alley)
Avatar 1:54pm Mary Wing:

That's an interesting idea, fred; we will have to ask him when he appears next.
Avatar 1:54pm david w:

Mary, Daniel Goode will be the best source to solve the Son of Lion question. Write me if you want to contact him, at least for the archive info.
  1:55pm Dean:

Per this, the premier was March 15, 1985:
http://www.folkerabe.se/pages/radio/eng/Hoppfhet1-e.html
  1:55pm David in London:

Coelacanth. Then it would definitely be my pleasure to send you a CD copy. 16 page booklet and all!
Avatar 1:57pm Mary Wing:

Thanks, David W! I would need to look at the CD-R from the station though, for accuracy's sake, so let me wait until I can ask someone at the station to send me a picture of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm fred:

@david: Daniel Goode's wiki page also mentions Cape Breton fiddling, which could be interesting to Sem. Special someday?
  1:59pm Dean:

FYI, the CD-R appears on Stan's playlists in 2017 and 2018. Those entries also note a March 5 recording date, but if the premier was in fact March 15, then perhaps that isn't accurate.
Avatar 2:00pm coelacanth∅:

wow bandcamp's (at least on my account) being weird.
now my 60 most recent purchases show twice (consecutively) in my collection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm fred:

Avatar 2:06pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 2:10pm Mary Wing:

Heh, nice, Lizzie! I hope it's a pet iguana?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm fred:

@Mary: "Harry's" is a common white bread brand in France, might be related to the name
Avatar 2:11pm coelacanth∅:

Handy i think all's well now. my collection being normal and also now represented under David's album.
David i shall do that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Handy Haversack:

Avatar 2:18pm coelacanth∅:

Handy i do have a bandcamp site for "coelacanth" but i've yet to make it public. i think it's registered as "coelacanth,mf" or something like that. (they wouldn't let me use a ø in my name)
it's for sound collages i've made since my teens, but i don't know about the legalities and don't want to get thrown out of the camp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Handy Haversack:

David, I have sent you a half pint of Carling so that I, too, might be displayed beneath your album cover on your Bandcamp page. To the Cat and Mutton!
