Why can’t I type “Frow-dy” into my phone without it turning into “Frow-day” AFTER I hit Submit?! Does one make more sense than the other?!

i wish they were real crickets tonight, but it's threatening rain so i retreated back inside. if i'd planned ahead, i would've gotten a box of live crickets as a back-up and released them mickey hart-style into Studio J.

You could just keep a small colony of crickets in a terrarium and mic them.

crickets are awesome -- not only sonically but apparently great at pest control (when i was a kid, we had them in the basement; my parents explained that they were "good" bugs and got rid of termites)

RevRabbit: one of my cousins has been teaching himself pedal steel. He's a brilliant all-around guitarist (classical even), and he says it's no joke in terms of learning curve. 11 strings and pedals that bend the notes.
Avatar 10:05pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Right!
  10:07pm
Carmichael:

Pedal steel is easy, conceptually. The TOUCH is what separates the great from the greatest. Your slide and pressure is your signature. Advice from a failed steel player ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
jj.:

i dunno man, playing an instrument with no standard tuning that requires hands, feet, and knees at the same time (and bending notes in multiple directions) is pretty hard for me to conceptualize.
Avatar 10:10pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Pardon: Are all these in the set featuring Mr. Orleans?
  10:10pm
Carmichael:

Exactly, jj. That’s why it’s so confounding. I feel like a failure whenever I look at one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
jj.:

no, sorry, just the first 2 tracks featured marc.

Tom Fogerty, as in John's brother? Wow.
Avatar 10:16pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

No - TY. He had pedal steel in his pocket - & fingerpicking too, is my understanding.
Pedal steel - maybe like a helicopter to plain guitar's aeroplane...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
QCJ:

Jerry from the Lion's Share - where Randy Newman played his FIRST show & they held a wake for Janis. Man I miss going to those types spaces something fierce.
Avatar 10:22pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...like to be a smartass & say (plain) slide is actually easier than frets!: just slide into what you wanna hear! It's almost true - but then there's Tunings (pain) - & only one Derek Trucks or Sonny Landreth in the whole Universe. Like Blues itself - easy to play & hard to feel, as Jimi said... or even just Electric - makes you bigger, but also your mistakes...&tc. &tc.
Wow QCJ.

John Purcell:

Wow this is great. Dylan sounded this good last year?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm

3 days after this Bob show I saw him play this completely reworked version of NDY. It blew my mind then & still doe snow. This one feels even slower, scarier almost too.

Got a great band for one thing.
The whole Other History of Bob - the Live one.
Avatar 10:26pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The adaptability of his work, of course. Have thot NDY just gets more on the nose unfortunately...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
QCJ:

Yeah I think it was David Roth, formerly of deadspin, who said it should be our new national anthem. I agree 100%. It's EASILY one of my fave bob tunes.
Avatar 10:31pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I share John's surprise tho'. Also - as for just the Dead in the first place - I think one requires a Guide who Knows to choose & present the better stuff - so grateful for the Frow.

I've never heard this Canned Heat before, it's so good. Embarrassed to say I only really know their 2 big hits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
jj.:

i know very little canned heat, too. in my understanding, that would've been their current single at the time of woodstock, a semi-protest/environmental song about the 1st moon landing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
QCJ:

Oh man, the cops did Canned Heat so dirty back in 1967 here that CH wrote a song called Busted in Denver. They got pinched at the Family Dog! out here, wrote the tune, came back to the venue to play and stick in the cops face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm

That's interesting QCJ, I need to read up on them and listen to deeper cuts.
