Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm mariano:

The Naked Kiss is pretty awesome too. One of the great opening scenes in cinema: en.wikipedia.org...
  4:41pm Miss G:

re: femme fatale watched Gloria Grahame in "Sudden Fear" the other day, so great. Love her. Fave is "In a Lonely Place"
  4:42pm Munho:

Definitely a spoof. Marks the end of Noir. Then Touch of Evil revived it, and then ended it again.
  4:42pm Miss G:

Munho that is an apt/hilarious comment re: Touch of Evil
Avatar 4:43pm Itzall Hear:

Kiss Me Deadly is one of the most hard boiled films of any genre, noir or otherwise, ever produced. I love it and have probably watched it as many times as I've seen my all time favorite movie, "8 1/2".
  4:44pm David in London:

I was always quite partial to Dick Powell as Marlowe in Murder My Sweet, too. He does a more light hearted version, but it’s a cracking film.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Carmichael:

Late heya, Fabio and acolytes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm mariano:

Hey what's up David, seems we keep missing each other. Ooh, speaking of noir, saw a great one at Film Forum a few years back, Bunny Lake Is Missing, with Keir Dullea (astronaut Dave Bowman in 2001). KD was there himself to do a Q&A after, looked a damn sight better than his old man makeup from 2001.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:51pm dale:

hello fabio and fabious people.
Avatar 4:51pm Hubig Pie:

My turn to play film critic-
My fav noir scene was Alida Valli's brush off at the end of "The Third Man"
  4:52pm nic:

love this!!!
  4:52pm David in London:

Mariano, Bunny Lake is a doozy, isn’t it? Wow, seeing KD talk about it must have been really great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm mariano:

Yeah David, one of the reasons I love Film Forum. Of course, after a few minutes all the questions were about 2001, but he seemed more than happy to oblige. Pretty good raconteur.
  4:58pm Miss G:

OK since we are on a noir kick, just went thru my films and 1955 was quite something, not only "Rebel Without a Cause" and "The Night of the Hunter" but "The Big Knife," "Violent Saturday," "The Phenix City Story," "The Big Combo," "I Died a Thousand Times" and "Illegal." and looking reminds me to watch "The Pushover," when I saw that, Kim Novak was making me sweat. I thought "is this what it's like to be a man? No thank you."
  5:01pm David in London:

Mariano, yeah, I can imagine, but if you are going to have a stand out film on your CV, well...

And a shout-out for some classic Brit Noir in ‘Brighton Rock’.
  5:02pm Miss G:

Yes David, "Brighton Rock," I love how it has it's own British version of noir.
  5:05pm David in London:

Miss G, yes, I think Graham Greene knew a thing or two about Noir...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm mariano:

"Night of the Hunter". One of so many reasons Robert Mitchum was the coolest. Haven't seen "Brighton Rock", need to add it to the queue. Does Night and the City count as British noir? American lead and director but set in London. Either way it's amazing.
Avatar 5:10pm Itzall Hear:

"Just a guy with queens...in his closet" OK.
  5:16pm Closeted in Queens:

Welcome to the world of great sounds. thanks for your candor.I welcome this current insanity.

My Cat Is An Alien are freaking awesome (and no, i am *not* saying that b/c the cats here are commanding me to do so)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm dale:

wasn't my cat is an alien a disney movie? or the cat was a witch?
Avatar 5:20pm Itzall Hear:

Dear slugluv1313, that is exactly what one who is controlled WOULD say ON ORDERS.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm mariano:

Wow, love this S&SH.
Avatar 🎸 5:26pm slugluv1313:

@ mariano -- The Naked Kiss is amazing -- after years of reading about it, along with other Sam Fuller treats (Forty Guns, Shock Corridor . . . Creem magazine? when i was a teenager in the suburbs in the 70s) i FINALLY got to see it (maybe while still in college?) -- Constance Towers is incredible, the coolest
  5:26pm nic:

love this!!!
  5:27pm jeff-m:

not a huge movie guy. recently saw Third Man. Thought it was decent , certainly not great though. maybe it was my expectations

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm mariano:

Little-known fact: Beefheart was the first Captain in Captain and Tennille, when they were still an avant-garde duo in the Village.
Avatar 5:44pm Itzall Hear:

Dear mariano, was that during the chipmunx of love phase?
  5:45pm Miss G:

Mariano, now you are giving me an Ohrwurm from the Captain and Tennille from my jr high days, I hope this Trout Mask will drive it out!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:45pm WoodsOfNH:

@Fabio Many years ago I was at a record store in Portland, Maine and came across Trout Mask Replica on 180g vinyl. I said out loud "Hmmm...do I need Trout Mask Replica on 180g. vinyl?" and the proprietor said "Why, yes you do!"

Yeah, I did. Love this record.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I remember the tour in 2003 when Captain Lou Albano was at the helm.
  5:47pm wfmu listener phillip:

I love it when fabio does that like a personal chat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm mariano:

Ahh, but wouldn't it have been funny if some 70s daytime chat show had thought of punking Tennille by replacing the Captains. I can just hear him croaking "Don't. Go. Breaking. My. Heeeeaaaarrrrrtt!"

"Don't Go Breaking my Ashtray Heart"?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm WoodsOfNH:

@mariano Ha! Fantastic.
  5:48pm Miss G:

If Dinah Shore could have Bowie on talking about auras, she could have had Capt B
  5:50pm Miss G:

re: Captain Beefheart, a friend recommended to me "On Tomorrow" and I keep playing that one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm mariano:

Yeah, god bless Dinah. Steve Allen had a very young, short-haired, suit-wearing Zappa on his show sometime in the late 50s/early 60s, playing an experimental piece for orchestra and bicycle. It's a really cool clip, believe it's still on YT.
Avatar 5:52pm Itzall Hear:

Umm... Civil...war...WHAT?!? Was that even a thing back in those days?
  5:52pm Miss G:

I'm going to have to buy this John Schuller and play it around town on my boombox
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:52pm WoodsOfNH:

@mariano That _is_ a cool clip, although Allen could not have been more condescending. Maybe that's why it's good?
  5:53pm ami ad:

Seems to me it's going to be more of a Class War,not Civil.
  5:53pm Dean:

Beefheart appeared on Letterman in '82, and Mike Douglas used to book interesting musicians, too. Same for Dick Cavett.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Carmichael:

Go to Youtube and watch the Beefheart performances on SNL. Astonishing. He does Hothead and Ashtray Heart. Stuns the audience into silence.
  5:55pm Miss G:

Oh, it's time! Thanks Fabio and Skeleton Crew for helping with the echo (that I liked.) Thanks everyone, looking forward to double feature noir tonight.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:55pm WoodsOfNH:

Avatar 🎸 5:56pm TDK60:

Gracias Fabio.
Avatar 🎸 5:57pm slugluv1313:

iirc, Beefheart on Letterman exclaimed, "I DON'T want my MTV!" hell yeah!
gotta check out his SNL appearances! HOW did i miss that?!?!
*dreaming of Toni Tennille and Captain Beefheart collaborating on "Muscrat Love"* :)
  5:57pm ami ad:

Toda Raba Fabio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm mariano:

True about Allen. But he seems to get into the spirit eventually. I love how Zappa is completely unflappable throughout. Dean: Ohh yeah, there's some great Cavett clips in general on YT: Gore Vidal demolishing a drunk Norman Mailer with his witty repartee. Carmichael: I love those old SNL clips where the audience is stunned after. Patti Smith's first time, Fear, of course, Zappa.

Thanks Fabio and crew, nice jawin' with everyone!
