Dinging in from the isthmus.
Avatar 12:01pm Mary Wing:

Hi Brian! I felt bad about knocking that Bill Callahan song off the stream but Whatever can't wait!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Greetings, Mary and WFMU pals!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Mary Wing: Don't worry, i'm sure he deserved it.
  12:03pm Really Lisa:

Hi Mary and everyone.
Avatar 12:04pm Mary Wing:

Good morning Granny! Hi-hi Lisa!
Avatar 12:04pm βrian:

Soft Transparent Clam?
Avatar 12:06pm Mary Wing:

Heh, you made me check to see if I made a typo, which is a significant probability.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Carmichael:

Words to live by: "Whatever Can't Wait."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Handy Haversack:

I am here! Hello, Mary! Hello all the Wingnuts!

Yeesh, turning off WFMU just does not pay. Waste of an hour and a half, and for what?!

I'm never leaving again.
Avatar 12:10pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Carmicheal and Handy! It's useless to resist the whatever, heh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Ike:

Clams? I prefer mussels, but hey, whatevers can't be choosers.
Avatar 12:14pm Mary Wing:

Howdy, Ike! How are you holding up?

I see this hour's topic has been decided, heh.
Avatar 12:15pm Mary Wing:

I'll take bay scallops any day over clams or mussels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Khlam? That was the other show that just finished.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Carmichael:

I just had a seafood cioppino this weekend that was fabulous. All of the above, plus halibut and shrimp.
Avatar 12:19pm Mary Wing:

Hi Ken! Khlam all day and all night!

Bah, why does the pop-up player show a White Stripes album for this Big Blood song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Handy Haversack:

Did SMKen stick with kayaks and clambakes? Man, I have so many kayak witticisms! Waste of my talents, that webinar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Doug Schulkind:

So impressive how Big Blood have cultivated a sound that is so immediately recognizable.
Avatar 12:24pm Mary Wing:

Morning, Doug! Colleen has a distinctive voice, that's for sure!

Oh, hey, Doug, do you know how the pop-up player generates it's album covers?
Avatar 12:25pm Franco Twinkie:

Mary!
Avatar 12:26pm Mary Wing:

Good morning, Franco! You remembered to turn on the radio, or did chresti leave it on before she left? :-)
Avatar 12:27pm Franco Twinkie:

I remembered all by myself!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Handy Haversack:

Nice one, Franco!
Avatar 12:28pm Bas NL:

Hi Mary! I'm back at work.. and i get 100% Whatever here too!
Avatar 12:29pm Franco Twinkie:

Hey Handy!
Avatar 12:30pm Mary Wing:

Hi Bas! This counts as two pieces of good news, yes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Doug Schulkind:

@Mary Wing
I have no clue. Ken has been working with our developers who have created and continually tinkered with the pop-up players. He is the dude to ask.
Avatar 12:34pm Hubig Pie:

On the topic of mollusks, I vote fresh oysters
Avatar 12:35pm Franco Twinkie:

Is a sea scallop a mollusk?
Avatar 12:40pm Bas NL:

Yes, i think so!
Avatar 12:40pm Mary Wing:

Hey there, Hubig! I never got the allure of shellfish, actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Carmichael:

Oh yeah, molluskest of mollusks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Handy Haversack:

Franco, I was telling chresti the other day how strange it is not to have her around for the daytime shows now that she's back at work!

I'm vegetarian enough not to eat any seafood, but Kate still does. Usually on coastal vacation she gets one seafood feast blowout while I beg if they can like make me an omelette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Hello wingnuts
Avatar 12:43pm βrian:

Sea scallops are the ne plus ultra of seafood. Or maybe any food.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Handy Haversack:

OK, 100 Percenters, let's take this show outside.
Avatar 12:44pm Mary Wing:

Hello Lizzie, what's for lunch?
Avatar 12:45pm Franco Twinkie:

If I'm going to go through all the trouble of searing a stinking slab of salmon for Chresti and myself, I'll also do a side of scallops just for myself. She don't like um.
Avatar 12:46pm βrian:

But finding scallops that haven't been soaked in phoshate crap is nigh impossible.
Avatar 12:49pm Franco Twinkie:

What is phoshate? My search bounces to phosphate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Carmichael:

Is that your picture, Franco? Why are there no numbers at the bottom? :)
Avatar 12:51pm βrian:

Yes, phosphates. Sodium Tripolyphosphate, I guess.
Avatar 12:52pm Franco Twinkie:

Yes, that is me. 45 years ago.
Avatar 1:00pm david w:

OK, wow. And hello, Mary and all!
Avatar 1:00pm Mary Wing:

I heard Matt Warwick say "Beyond Beyond Is Beyond" yesterday, and regretfully, I can not reach his level of extra, heh.
Avatar 1:01pm Mary Wing:

Hiya David, what's shaking in the BK hood?
Avatar 1:02pm Hubig Pie:

I'm sure there is some sort of device enhancement he is employing
Avatar 1:03pm david w:

Still hiding in Williamsburg. Getting kind of busy, and a little scary. Some party boneheads roaming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Doug Schulkind:

A slight increase of Hinky, but a massive dollop of additional Dinky coming on Friday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Handy Haversack:

@david w: "party boneheads" = "ignoranuses"?
Avatar 1:07pm Mary Wing:

Doug, is Larry going to create a new graphic once the Friday dates are filled?
Avatar 1:08pm Franco Twinkie:

I've taken to wearing checkered kitchen towels instead of bandanas. Larger and more comfortable, and oh so stylish!
Avatar 1:09pm david w:

@HaHa: I think hooking up is a stronger instinct than saving humanity.
Avatar 1:11pm Mary Wing:

Heh. Can't wait for all the covid babies coming in nine months...
Avatar 1:13pm Franco Twinkie:

Sadly, that is the case David W. Long after the need or practicality of hooking up has past, the instinct is still there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Handy Haversack:

Apparently shouting into a cell phone in the middle of a sidewalk is also a stronger instinct than saving humanity.
Avatar 1:15pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Mary Wing: The pop-up player for live streams gets its music data from MusicBrainz and Amazon.
Avatar 1:17pm Mary Wing:

Hi Kenzo! That's curious; wonder why they messed up the Big Blood track earlier, though?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Doug Schulkind:

@Mary Wing
I'm guessing that due to COVID, no one has been descending down to the FMU dungeon to feed MusicBrainz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Poor thing.
Avatar 1:21pm Mary Wing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Webhamster Henry:

@Mary A clue would be to find out how the MusicBrainz keys the songs to the covers. #notreallyananwser
Avatar 1:24pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

It looks like they(radiorethink) are just using Amazon, and indeed searching on Amazon for "Big Blood Operators & Things" indeed turns up a White Stripes album.
Avatar 1:24pm Hubig Pie:

This one has a good steady beat that can be easily danced to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Yvang:

Hi Mary and 100%ers! My guess about the cover album mess up is that the White Spripes have a song called "Hello Operator" and keywords are used to fill a void in database? But I know nothing about this stuff.
Avatar 1:26pm Mary Wing:

Hi Henry and Yvang! Yes, the album picture is correct on MusicBrainz; very interesting...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Yvang:

Sorry I meant The Whites Sprites
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning(-ish), Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Carmichael:

All of life's problems can be traced back to Amazon. I learned that from Mark Hurst.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Yvang:

Don't use Facebook, forget Google, and don't buy at Amazon
Avatar 1:30pm Mary Wing:

Hello S&M&S! And hi Sylvia, who is clicky-starring songs but thinks I can't see it, heh!
Avatar 1:34pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Ha! Hello, Mary :)
Avatar 1:36pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

that first track was really good, I tried to look for it but no bandcamp or else, just a Discogs page
Avatar 1:38pm Mary Wing:

Yes, I hate when that happens! I always try to add links for more information, but in this case, there is none! It's only from 2007--the internet was around back then!
  1:39pm Really Lisa:

Always like Barry Adamson's voice.. if he could narrate my life, I think it would seem way better!
Avatar 1:40pm βrian:

I'd have Ken Nordine as my narrator. With a horn section to accompany.
  1:41pm Really Lisa:

Hmm, food for thought βrian!
Avatar 1:44pm Mary Wing:

Somehow, I don't think "today, Mary Wing sat around in her pajamas, eating crackers while posting her live playlist" would not sound more interesting if Barry Adamson narrated it, heh. Such is life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Handy Haversack:

@Really Lisa: "food for thought" = BRAINZ!!

Three stars in a row, Mary! Will you capture a fourth -- the elusive "whole Haversack"?!
Avatar 1:46pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh. How many Whole Haversacks have there been so far on WFMU, Handy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Handy Haversack:

Creamo Coyl has probably collected a few! efd, too!

And Mary Wing!

And Julie.

Probably Sheila and Becky, too.

I guess "some"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Handy Haversack:

(Oh, and Bryce!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm doctorjazz:

Hi Keeper on the Curtains and followers!
Avatar 1:50pm Mary Wing:

Hiya doctorjazz! Take a seat and get comfy before the 3oak truck rolls in!
Avatar 1:50pm Mary Wing:

AND I HAVE ACHIEVED A WHOLE HAVERSACK TODAY, WOOOOOOOT!
  1:51pm Really Lisa:

@Handy: Noooooooo! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Handy Haversack:

Remember this moment, people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Stanley:

Three of a kind. Just in time.
Here we go..............
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Handy Haversack:

SIOUXSIE!!!!!
Avatar 2:03pm Mary Wing:

Hi Stanley! Time to break out those 80s dance moves!
Avatar 2:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Crucial Whatever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Yvang:

She had the best voice
Avatar 2:06pm Mary Wing:

Hiya RevRab! Been wondering where you've been keeping yourself; everything relatively good in your world?
Avatar 2:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

GothSchmoth - great band, songs, rekkids...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Siouxsie rules! Looking forward to these covers.
Avatar 2:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I only got Webz right now sitting OUTSIDE the Library - there may be a fix for this...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Stanley:

A hi-energy version. I'll be back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Yvang:

Let's see if someone did better
Avatar 2:08pm Mary Wing:

NOT likely, Yvang, heh.
Avatar 2:10pm Hubig Pie:

Music to float sheetrock to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Handy Haversack:

Holding out for a slow dance, Stanley?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

yeah, digging these variations!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Stanley:

Hi Mary - The eighties got me bit confused. A surfeit of Yamaha DX7s and affected hairstyles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Carmichael:

I was thankfully underground through most of the 80s.
Avatar 2:12pm Mary Wing:

Heh, Stanley, and the problem with that was...?
Avatar 2:14pm βrian:

Anything that was on TV in the 80s I did not see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Yvang:

...the mullet?
Avatar 2:15pm Bas NL:

And home..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Stanley:

Hi Handy yes, I suppose and home before dark.
Mary - for a hippy mutated into a punk then back to hippy, the eighties scene was a bit hard to digest. However, there was still a lot of good music around.
Avatar 2:16pm Bas NL:

Where i still don't have a DX7. A DX21, but that's.. mehh..
Avatar 2:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well - Covers often illuminate Lyrics for me - for something good to say...
Avatar 2:17pm βrian:

@Stanley: Do you remember where you were on the date of the Harmonic Convergence?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Stanley:

Not exacty but in late 76 when I first heard Anarchy in the UK. I had an epithany
Avatar 2:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Also sheds light on where Banshees stood culturally - for listeners maybe?...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Yvang:

Interesting that four covers in a row are from 2019.
  2:27pm davefromtoronto:

finally i can understand the lyrics!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Yvang:

Or not (cleaning glasses)
Avatar 2:27pm Bas NL:

Siouxsie sure made an impression! So many covers; i had no idea!
Avatar 2:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Speaks to the 21st Century I guess...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Yvang:

I like this folky one!
Avatar 2:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lounge works surprisingly well...
Avatar 2:28pm Hubig Pie:

Downbeat and slightly bossa nova
Avatar 2:29pm Mary Wing:

And there are even more, Yvang! What happened in 2019 that prompted all the covers?
  2:29pm Really Lisa:

Darn, I missed the first 5 Cities in Dust! Work meeting :-/
Archives for me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Yvang:

Nouvelle Vaguy
  2:29pm David in London:

Wow, I had no idea there were so bloomin’ many versions of this track. I saw a The Banshees in this tour, and Siouxsie had fractured her leg in a stage fall so she sat Marlene Dietrich style on the edge of a stool. Very chic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Handy Haversack:

"Very chic" is her baseline, David!
Avatar 2:31pm βrian:

That's some Dolby-enhanced drum thumping there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Yvang:

Cities an especially dust are timeless
  2:31pm David in London:

For me that Patu Fu version is head and shoulders above the rest. So far that is...
Avatar 2:32pm Sem:

Holy, Mary,
quite the 3OAK. Dinging all the right bells. Hello to you, and heatwave howdy, all, from the scorching-hot shores of the Bay of Fundy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Ike:

I like how histrionic some of these are.
Avatar 2:32pm Mary Wing:

Hey there dave from TO and David in London! How cool; I can't remember which tour I saw them on, but Robert Smith was in the group then, maybe??
  2:33pm David in London:

Mine too Handy. Or should that be ‘aspirationally very chic’?
  2:34pm David in London:

Hey Sem.
Avatar 2:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sue & Robert very Psychedelicised, I do believe...
Avatar 2:36pm βrian:

Is there a Tom Waits version? Yat Kha?
  2:36pm Matt:

Kinda wish Iggy Pop covered this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Liking this Unwoman version!
Avatar 2:37pm Mary Wing:

Hi Sem! Scorching hot?
Avatar 2:37pm Sem:

Greets, David. All normative there, i presume.
Avatar 2:37pm Sem:

Welders mask instead of sunglasses, Mary. I kid you not.
Avatar 2:38pm βrian:

Actually, I bet Puddles would do an excellent cover.
Avatar 2:38pm Mary Wing:

You know I'd be playing those covers if they existed! And there are lots more, but this is the last one for today.
Avatar 2:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Oh hell yeah - that's a whole - Thing.
Songs Ig should do...
Avatar 2:39pm Sem:

RevRab, showing up in time for the Solstice I guess?
Avatar 2:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...these got better...
Hiya Sem !
Avatar 2:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Is it August up there too Sem??...
  2:41pm David in London:

Yep, all ticking over OK in Roman Londinium thanks Sem.
The sun is well and truly over the yard arm now, too, so the cork has popped...
Avatar 2:41pm Sem:

That's a roger.
Avatar 2:41pm Sem:

A British vintage of renown, David, I just know it.
  2:44pm David in London:

This album (Protection) reminds me so much of my father in law, now sadly departed. Big shout out to John H.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Stanley:

Tracey Thorn - has anyone read her books?
They're worth reading.
Avatar 2:49pm βrian:

Whaaaat?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Handy Haversack:

Only time I saw Siouxsie was at Lollapalooza (right? or was it WOMAD? -- anyway, an amphitheater festival, and they were insanely good).
Avatar 2:50pm Mary Wing:

I started her first one, it wasn't particularly revelatory to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Stanley:

Hi Sem. See you there reaching for the choice leaves at the top.
Avatar 2:52pm Mary Wing:

Which isn't a diss on Tracey, though! Love her! I liked Ben Watt's book about his illness better.
  2:52pm David in London:

I saw her speak at Rough Trade at the launch of the most recent one. She was very engaging in conversation. Didn’t read the book oddly, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Stanley:

Probably the English suburban thing doesn't travel that well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm doctorjazz:

Nice version of Hey Lucky!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm doctorjazz:

(Get Lucky, of course, typo)
Avatar 2:54pm Mary Wing:

Heh. We're up all night to Hey Lucky!
Avatar 2:55pm david w:

Thanks, Mary. Delighted (again!) and heading over to Ridgewoodville now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm doctorjazz:

Probably as good as it'll get...
Avatar 2:55pm βrian:

Well, there's my horn section. Now where is Ken?
Avatar 2:55pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Thnk you, Mary, been a short and fun visit. See you and all later.
