@Jennica: It was fantastic. I wish I could share a picture! We paused for a while near a little "island" that's actually tailings from the digging of the Queens-Midtown tunnel, just in front of the UN. The cormorants are nesting, and there are babies in the nests. We sat in an eddy for 20 mins. and watched them in their domesticity. Super fun. And then it was just as perfect an NYC summer evening as you're likely to find. Super nice.

Roger, any canoes is good good canoes!

Also, Jennica, it turns out our local liquor store *has* a nationwide delivery service! I had no idea. But we walked there anyway. It was a real beast-of-burden day for me!
