We had to go to Manhattan Monday and got wine and french fries to go from a diner that I used to eat at all the time but probably hadn't been to in ten years. Holy crap, they were good. So, so good. Ate french fries sitting by the East River and watching the boats go by. Not too shabby (considering that enforced travel was part of the deal). Also: agreeing with chresti on the relative quality of this set!

	9:48pm wendy del formaggio: Aww, Handy, that’s a beautiful story. I miss NYC diners. (And fries.) Some of my favorites, like Uncle Nick’s on the UWS and Manatu’s on Christopher, aren’t even there anymore. I also love Good Stuff on 23rd and Capitol in Inwood; the latter because it’s my old ‘hood.

When I used to work at Zabar’s I’d go there for garlic soup, a bigass burger, and a black cherry Dr. Brown’s. I cried when they closed. When it’s safe to return to NYC, I am so there.

	10:03pm wendy del formaggio: Does anyone know if the Village Den is still there? It’s just west of where St. Vincent’s used to be. That diner was awesome. They knew how to make a perfect baked sweet potato.

I miss those things too. And I recognize how lucky I am to have a safe place to live, to be healthy. It helps temper the longing a little, but not totally. I miss my friends. Humans are wired for connection.
	10:38pm P-90: That “phantom pain” of feeling the absence of familiar experiences so acutely just reminds us of how important those experiences are. And maybe we’ll value them more than ever when they become available again. Which they will. I miss the theater too.

We had to go to Manhattan Monday and got wine and french fries to go from a diner that I used to eat at all the time but probably hadn't been to in ten years. Holy crap, they were good. So, so good. Ate french fries sitting by the East River and watching the boats go by. Not too shabby (considering that enforced travel was part of the deal). Also: agreeing with chresti on the relative quality of this set!
